Rex unless we get a team like Tampa or the Jets to give us a pick for him.

At some point, you've gotta build for the future. White is an ideal future Griffin backup with a ton of upside. Given that we won't be able to hold on to Cousins forever, that matters. Rex is Rex and on the downside of his career (if you can call it that). You're asking what I think we ought to do, not necessarily what the Shanahan's will do.

White. And don't look back.

Bingo, and the fact that White plays the same offensive game as Robert is a huge plus.

Bull****!

Pat White is turrable. He throws an ugly, weak, wobbly ball. His mechanics suck. His accuracy sucks too. We've called plays to try and make him look better than he is.

I hope someone offers us a 7th for him, and we unload him.

In the first 3 preseason games, Rex and Pat had about the same completion percentage of about 50, each had 3 picks, though Rex had them in 3 games, and Pat in 4, and Pat has a bunch of rushing yards, and scored twice rushing. We've called the same plays we call for Robert, which we don't for Rex, or Cousins for that matter. Rex has hit the ceiling, while Pat has room to grow.

I would love to see a team give us something for Rex (likely not gonna happen, but a man can dream) and then take on developing White more. That said, I like Rex and wouldnt be unhappy if we kept him.

Ive said it before, what a great "problem" we have at QB all around!

There are some really qb hungry teams out there. Lienhart and John Beck are getting serious looks. I'd dangle White to the Jets or Bills and see if they would toss us a sixth. If we cut Pat the Giants wil sign him as they always try to find at least one guy to try to pry playbook from. I don't really want the Giants to get our RGIII offseason simulator. Same thing with Rex actually and his knowledge of the playbook.

If I had to cut one though, I'd cut White, but only because RGIII is coming off a serious injury, and Cousins is a little nicked. We might actually have to play a third and if we did this year, I think we're better off with Rex.

I thought Leinart was already picked up by the Bills?

BTW, great to see you here Burgold.

Leinart is with the Bills. They traded for another QB from the Lions.

And...

I will go with Pat.

I say keep White. If we go to a 3rd option at qb the season went off the rails. There is no upside to Rex but White? I guess it all comes down to whether the read option becomes the norm or not. I say the read option is here to stay for some teams. If that's the case White might have some late round trade value especially if he improves his passing game. It's not as though Grossman is a more reliable option.

I'm not sure many here really know the past of Pat White. Living in Florida, and having seen John Beck for a few years, I was confident that John Beck was one of the worst signings we had made in ten years. Rex was so bad that people were calling for Beck to play. It was depressing knowing what was about to happen.

I like Pat White the person and story. But he can't throw. Literally, he can't throw anything beyond a slant. Miami fans despise him. Think of a faster Tim Tebow.

He was so bad in Miami that fans created a patwhitesucks website. I doubt it's still up, with his release years ago. You can kind of get a feel for it by googling "Pat White Sucks". Here is one item I just found:

What a surprise, Pat White sucks at QB... | IGN Boards

"The Dolphins drafted Pat White to run the Wildcat, but that doesn't mean White isn't expected to throw. And in practice, White has reportedly looked horrendous tossing the ball. In fact, he reportedly missed his receiver in practice and tossed the ball over the fence!

But was it, maybe, the gloves that caused his erratic heaves? White told the Sun-Sentinel that he wore gloves because it was cold when he played at West Virginia. But in Florida, not so much. He said they get slippery in the wet, humid Florida weather.

So, now, he's working without the gloves. Perhaps he just needs some time to adapt."

I know he's not gonna be a straight up QB ever, but thats just kinda embarassing.

If you've followed any of the beat writers from practice.....Keim, etc... they all kind of agree that he's awful, without coming right out and saying he's awful. Just manage expectations.

With that said, I still prefer him over Rex due to his age, and due to how he can imitate guys like Russel Wilson and Kap during practice. That alone can help our preparation. Also, unlike Rex, he still has room for improvement. I'm on board, I just don't really ever want to see him on 3rd and 10.

Grossman is really a #2 if you look around the NFL at the other backups. To have him as a #3 is a luxury for the Redskins.

Pat White is simply not an NFL passer at this point. He is a nimble athlete who can run the option and can make his first read in the passing game, but is woefully deficient in being able to see his progressions and as Chris Cooley noted simply failed to read the shadow coverage that lead to an ugly interception for a pick six.

I was hoping White was going to step up against second and third teamers in Tampa and really put up some numbers.

But in the end he looked like he was playing against guys that he was competitive with. And that's the problem.

Grossman against Tampa's third string defense in that second half would have burned them for 250 yards and 3 TDs.

It may not be a popular opinion, but to me watching the games and seeing the confidence level Shanahan has in Rex, I don't see him going anywhere.

And the Redskins are not going to get rid of a guy like Royster or a swing tackle (I think Pashos has made a case to be the insurance policy in 2013) or a DE that has played well in Phillip Merling, who has size and talent to keep 4 quarterbacks.

IMO...if the key is the read option/pistol....you go with White. Right now, Rex is the better QB. but White has the higher upside given this offense. we know what we get with Rex - a still capable QB who has zero mobility and will give the game away when under pressure. in short, we better hope neither one has to be relied upon for any stretch of games.

I believe, to my dis-belief, that the Shanahan's will go w/Rex as their number 3. White sailed too many balls last night - I don't think he has all the passes in his bag yet. if, inside the Redskin fortress, they honestly think they have a championship shot this season, they will go with Rex. on the bright side, like last season, Rex will likely not be activated for any games barring prior week injury.

How many of you think we may go with two QBs? We have a lot of players who are going to be released and could stick with other teams. Having another body around at another position is not out of the question, imho.

I would say Rex. He knows the offense and has experience. Rex is like an extra QB coach and can help Griffin and Cousins. Rex is still Rex in he will give you a good play then a bad one.

It is a shame White doesn't qualify for practice squad. White is a work in progress and not ready to face starting defeneses.

Pat White is 27 and has been out of the NFL for, what?, three years? He's not a young player and has never proven he could play in this league. In a game that is in short supply of overall qb talent, Pat White hasn't made a roster since 2009. I don't love Rex but he's a much better option if the worst-case scenario occurs.

Keim's thoughts-

Observation deck: Redskins-Buccaneers - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN

7. Quarterback Pat White made some more plays which, considering his layoff from the NFL, isn’t too bad. But he still hasn’t shown that he can be a consistent or solid passer in the league. He did throw a nice out to Skye Dawson, a low zinger into tight coverage. He seems to be more comfortable when he’s outside the pocket. He threw an interception because he never saw the linebacker. Yeah, White stared at the receiver, but on a slant sometimes that’s what it takes on a quick route. He just failed to see the defender. On that same series he missed badly over the middle and should have been intercepted then, too. Yes, White’s touchdown run was nice, but the one thing everyone knew about him before he came to the NFL was that he could run. Can he pass out of the zone read? He didn’t do it this preseason. Can he throw any touch passes? Didn’t do that either. Or drop it in over the top of a linebacker down the middle – and in front of the safety? Nope. In other words, he has a long ways to go, as he should. I would not keep him.
