Who are you keeping? (The free agency thread)

I'm really hoping that Allen restructurers and sticks around for the rest of his career, but Lawrence coming in already knowing the coaching staff and a bunch of the other players, would be a huge move for us. I could see a 3 year deal, with an out after two like how the Eagles signed Javon Hargrave at $20 mil per for two years and then let him walk and sign for $40 per for the 49ers a couple years later.

Ward is a physical Man CB1 who absolutely fits our scheme.
 
Hard calls. Probably want Wagner, Chinn, Lucas, Fowler. Believe it or not I might move on from Tress unless he accepts a smaller deal.

For the heck of it, I started thinking about which one of our pending FAs is most important to us going forward. Wagner, Fowler and Chinn all have legitimate cases obviously. I surprised myself though, because there’s a part of me that wants to say Lucas as protecting Daniels is paramount.
 
I don't disagree. Until we replace Lucas, Lucas is irreplaceable.

That might happen in the draft or in free agency, but he is a good spot starter at both tackle positions. He's solid. He just wears down and is a bit long in the tooth. I don't think anyone would mind an upgrade, but even if we upgrade, he's the kind of back up you trust and want.
 
I could for sure see keeping Lucas around as the backup swing OT, even if we upgrade RT in FA (which imo we really should take a big swing at). Coleman is worth continuing to develop at LT as long as he makes it through the rest of the season fairly healthy. Wylie is an interesting one because while his breakdowns are catastrophic when they happen, he’s been solid as a run blocker and could also be fairly cheap.

We’ll definitely have options which is what we should really want. Having a good decision-maker at the helm makes such a difference, and the more options he has to evaluate, the better.

He is a total steal for the money he's been making (he's been getting paid about $3M a year). Even if you were to keep Wylie and add another tackle, I'd still Lucas $3M to stick around as OT4. When you don't have tackle depth, you end up like the Giants.

Allen is gone. Highly doubtful in my opinion he takes a paycut. Ward fits the scheme but how many teams pay two corners big bucks? It feels like every corner combo in the league has at least one corner on a rookie deal. I think Sainristil's play outside gives us options and allows us to take a guy Day 2 or 3 who may not start right away but can play some snaps.

What the Chiefs do with Sneed is have him line up as an outside corner when they have 2 corners and then move him inside when they go 3. Could use Sainristil the same way. You can then use a cheap effective veteran or a rookie as the CB3. It's possible you could go get someone like an Adebo on the cheap on a 1 year deal due to his injury.
 
Allen doesn't have any guaranteed money left on his deal and can as far as I know be a candidate for release in the offseason.

Let's face it, we have a lot of money in 2024 invested in the DL and right now these inside players are perhaps the most disappointing week in and week out.

Payne's contract precludes moving on from him but IMO we can replace the 30 year old Allen and what he is now producing with some younger draft picks.

What this team really needs on the line is a rush DE that can occupy the double team.

And that may end up being our #1 pick or #1 signing in free agency.

Lucas has been an important chess piece for a couple years now and would be onboard with his return.

If Coleman could only stay healthy. He has proved himself worthy on the opportunity to stay on the outside either side.

Matching Wylie with "his breakdowns are catastrophic when they happen" is spot on and the reason I don't like holding onto him. He is a risk to Daniels health that I am not willing to make. Seriously, I hated that he wasn't replaced for this season, he is too scary.

The team needs a starting OT. I'd be looking at a LT that can play RT, could see this end out in the draft over FA but need to be a priority.

I agree with this list, and with guys like Wagner and Chinn, would try to extend them now during the bye week. Wagner probably feels great but I'd do a 2 year extension where the money is loaded into what they can for this current year, and 2025. So, 2026 could be a cap friendly breakup if he hits a wall. Chinn is only 26 years ago. 3-4 year deal would be perfect for him.
 
Kind of crazy thought but with the DQ Whitt connection, its hard not to think it. Do we really want Parsons here when he becomes a FA next year? He's gonna want that green.

I'm not so sure about Greenlaw coming off of an Achilles. LBs whose main selling point is speed are going to likely be damaged goods after that kind of injury.

I'd say pass.

I doubt Wagner would go elsewhere if he wants to keep playing, but I bet he keeps doing 1 year fully guaranteed deals until he retires.

But he has a good relationship with Quinn so I doubt he’ll hold them hostage. They’ll know and if he’s coming back he’ll sign early in the off season.

I think on defense, Chinn is the guy I think they need to focus a longer term contract for. The problem is he’s a safety, and the safety market is depressed so coming off a good year, he might want to test the market
 
On offense, I’d absolutely re-sign Big Luke. Lucas is one of the best backup swing tackles in the league. He can start a few games for you, great teammate, play both sides.

I’d also draft a guy or two at tackle, but I’d make bringing back Lucas as a priority.

I’d absolutely try and bring back both McNichols and Bates. Solid contributors, inexpensive, know the system.

Probably Ertz also, on a one year deal, with the expectation he plays less and Sinnott plays more.

I wouldn’t mind them bringing back D. Brown as a 5th or 6th WR. He knows the system.

Most of the other UFAs are guys who could stay or go.
