What's the mood?

If this team has really "turned a corner", we've seen progress, but turned a corner into being a good team...we will beat the Eagles for the division crown tomorrow. I see that as a definite possibility.

I still maintain, the team got their heads in the clouds with all the talk of division title when we faced Dallass, I have the feeling they learned their lesson, go out take care of business, and beat a dysfunctional, but talented group on Saturday.
 
well...to be honest...I don't really care. let me be clear - I don't care in the sense that my eye is on the long-term. it is always nice to wax the iggles/cowboys/gints. that said, this has not been a season that really lit my fire from a football pov. better to watch than the last two seasons....but in terms of the good Skins teams and where we need to be....eh.

I expect us to win tomorrow night. the iggles are not a good team.

I've read many of your posts on the Dallas game from this thread and other threads.
You could make the case that, that game has brought this team closer and gotten McVay and Gruden to open up the offense more(Read many of your posts about that). I don't see either team blowing out the other, and what a great opportunity this is for our young team.

That is why I feel more confident about this game...I really feel we'll win. I am not devoid of the reality of what this team has been, heartbreaking to say the least...just that I feel the loss to the Cowboys was an eye opener. I agree, this is a great opportunity and I have the feeling we won't over look the Eagles with talk of division titles...we just win.

A different feeling than I've had from this team in years.

I know we should beat their asses up one side and down the other of the field. Question is will they?

Lately Kirk/McVay have gotten on the same page and called some beautiful 80yard death marches that eat the clock up. IMHO the offense isn't what we need to worry about tonight. The D needs to bring it!

I believe we'll win by 4 points but dominate every statistic possible.
 
Not sure there are enough positive adjectives to describe my mood right now. :)

So how does going into Philly, beating them pretty handily, (given some boneheaded mistakes) with the division title on the line, bode for the long term future?
 
In some corners the sentiment is Philly 'lost the game' because of too many mistakes, dropped passes, penalties and the like.

Missed extra point, terrible clock management at the end of the game, a couple of miscues on defense that cost us TD's, yet the mistakes Philly made cost them? Good teams overcome mistakes.
 
I'd like to see more of Preston Smith, Pierre Thomas, Ricky Jean Francois, etc. against the Cowboys.

If that means less snaps for Kerrigan, Thompson, Baker and some other guys we need fresh for the playoffs, I think we can still win the game.

The Redskins should be able to beat Kellen Moore regardless.
 
My mood? Oh, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing an empty stadium towards the end of the game. I hope those fans enjoyed their journey home via the Ben Franklin or the Walt Whitman or the Blue Route or the Schuylkill Expressway. Thinking of the many friends I have back there and how they must feel. Yeah, it's that sweet.

At the beginning of this season I would have thought any of those would have been possible but not probable and all three unlikely at the very least.

The progress this team has made this season is honestly beyond what I had expected.

Feel good? Hail yes!

As has been mentioned-or hinted at-this isn't the end of the road, there is a lot of improvement in several areas the Redskins need to make over the nest couple or three seasons before it will be where I would like it to be.

But this is a definite milestone on that road.


And I am enjoying the ever luvin' hell out of it. Hail!
 
If we can continue to build on this we could potentially be a dangerous team for years to come

not much. enjoyable? yes.

because of the way parity/cap works....teams move up/down pretty fast. McL does his thing and we will continue to improve. but the other teams in the division can (and have) done the same.

more to point: I like where we're headed.....but not jumping into the ridiculous until I see a team that can beat the better teams in the league. we've come together nicely....but basically beaten a bunch of also rans. huge improvement over the past....no doubt about it. but not setting expectations terribly high. we're in one of...if not the...weakest divisions in the NFL. we had a soft schedule. I'll adopt a balanced outlook.

not a reflection on the Skins - but I really feel like the NFL product has descended into near *rap this season. whole bunch of average and not much excellence.

Geez, your posts are depressing, but understandable.

I agree wholeheartedly with your last statement. The NFL product has degraded so much, that many games are borderline unwatchable. Too many flags. Too many stoppages. Too many rules that favor the offense. Too many selfish players. If you're at home, too many commercials. The list goes on, and on and on...

To keep it OT, my mood is ecstatic!

Your last paragraph tells the story. We can only beat the teams on our schedule, and by and large the teams on our schedule haven't been that good, because the league itself isn't that good. As Henry bemoans, parity kinda drags everyone down. I think Cousins gives us a very good chance to win most weeks in this current league, and that's about what you can expect these days.

I think we all want the dominant teams of the 80's and early 90's, but I don't think those days are coming back anymore. McL will restock the roster hopefully every year and keep us competitive to the point where we will be in the playoff hunt most years I feel. Then, I think we have to catch lightening in a bottle and gel at the right time, ala the Giants last two SB runs. Some years we will make it, others we won't.

That is the NFL-designed parity...
 
I agree that the league is crap right now, but at least we are one of the better teams in that crappy league.

I did watch a fair amount of football this weekend for the first time in forever, and man, the flags. The flags. They are everywhere. Every hit I wait for one. Every long pass I wait for one. Every big play I wait for a replay. SOOO many teams got yards on PI calls that never would have been called five years ago. It's almost not about who's better, but who draws the flag at the right time. The Product is awful. It really is.

Not trying to be a downer. I am thrilled at the progress the Redskins have made. They can only play within the confines of the league and the rules, and they have done a solid job with that. But this league. It really is going to hell. I hardly ever watch non-Redskin games anymore. No fun.

As far as a state of the game angle, I see your point entirely. Football has some serious issues to deal with and the NFL does not have the people's trust as to whether it will look at the best interest of the game, and it's players. Then there is... Is it a catch, or not? Is that a legal hit? Is it reviewable?

But Fan, you have to love the fact that the guys in our colored uniforms are happier at the end of the games!
