Whatever Happened to...

You're still the same.

Ya know, I just now got your pun. Your reference to a Seger song, in response my Seger song pun.
Sorry, I can be slow times
I did have a traumatic brain injury, ya know

Well, I hope you didn't spend a lot of time wondering 'what the hell does he mean?!'...

Very funny man, and very, very humble
He was so humble in fact, that he did not capitalize a single letter in his username, when he had every right to capitalize all three

Miss him...and the other car expert ; Springfield

Spaceman Spiff? Don’t know why he popped in my head. 🤷🏻‍♂️

My doc said that twa was the source of my high blood pressure. We went at it so many times on ES.
But he kicked cancer's ass. (tips cap)

Plus his music recommendations in the youtube thread were top notch. Discovered lots of great stuff because of him.

I know he wasn't happy with the way the site was being managed and the way a certain staff member elected himself supreme dictator. He might have just quietly dropped out as I did. But I'm not positive about that.

It has. In fact, I just sold another one! It is slated for release in March.

This one may be the funniest one I've ever written. It's been described as Who Framed Roger Rabbit meets Michael Chabon (Kavalier and Clay, Yiddish Policeman's Union) Boone has already given me permission to shamelessly talk about it when the time is right :D

Awesome. I bet if you and Bang collaborated on some work, it would be a big thing !

That would be fun.

What I'd love to see happen with this thread is, when a former member (whether here on BGO or previously on ES) is mentioned, we make an active effort across social media to find them and get them back here. I think a lot of fans just got fed up during the worst of the Snyder years and moved on from spending time on Washington football. Then there are those (actually on both ends of the political spectrum) who either were disgusted by some of the things the NFL promoted (social justice, players kneeling during the anthem, etc...) or on the opposite end, were disgusted by some of the misogynistic practices they perceived the NFL as turning a blind eye to (strip show cheerleaders, protecting owners and executives including Snyder caught engaging is unsavory practices, etc...). I know folks who used to be very active fans and members here who essentially walked away from the NFL for those divergent reasons.

It's a new day as DC football fans. I miss some of those guys and wish they'd come back home.

Anyway, just a fleeting thought... instead of just having a 'members no longer here who we greatly miss' thread, why not use it to try and go out and find those folks and get them re-energized?

This is a great post - a good description of what happened with a lot of people.

I remember one Monday morning I got the newspaper and scanned through it. And in it was the Sports section, showing the result of the Redskins game.

The Redskins game? I had forgotten to watch it.

I couldn't believe it. But it was true. It happened.

I didn't consciously decide not to watch it. It just didn't occur to me to watch it. I was busy doing other things. I had my drone hobby and my bbq hobby and I completely forgot to watch the game. Granted, it was a week after a bye, so that probably influenced by forgetfulness.

But then it happened a second time. The same thing a year later. And then I knew the end was near.

Because in the past I'd go to any length to see the game. If I couldn't watch it, I'd find it on the radio. I do not miss the Redskins game.

But the icing on the cake was the 2018 NFC Championship game with the Saints and Rams. I felt sick after that game. I realized I'd been fooled all these years. It's all bullshit.

After that game, I did, in fact, make conscious decision to give up on the NFL. And I did. I did not watch another NFL game for 2-3 years.

For me personally, it was watching Lord Farquaad destroy the team over the years. The spike in the heart for the NFL for me was the kneeling though. I watched it a couple of games and then realized the NFL was good with it. They were not only good with it, they expanded on it with all the sayings plastered in the end zone and on helmets. I spent way too many years serving this country under the Stars and Stripes to see it disrespected. And while I fully realize that part of the benefit of living in America was the right to be able to do or say pretty much what you want, I wasn't going to watch it being done. I quit watching cold turkey that year, and haven't really been back since. I will admit to recording some of the games last year because as they say, winning takes the stink off, and it was good to see the team in good hands once again. But I really don't know it I will ever sit down on a Sunday again and spend the day watching football. And "Commanders" will never sit well with me. As for the other folks that have peeled away, I've lost contact with everyone that was on the old site. It is good to see some of them have made it here. I do wonder about NavyDave the most. He wasn't doing too well last time I spoke to him. That was a few years ago.

Wow - another great post! I fully agree with everything you say - top to bottom, left to right. Welcome back!
