What Would You Like For The New Name Of This Team?

Sentinels could be fun if you could permission from the X-Men and Marvel ;)

Someone mentioned Redfins in the other thread. For obvious reasons (the rhyme) that one felt pretty good.
I suggested "Redfins" half jokingly.

Here's that post:
There is a fish the range of which includes Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. It's full name is the Redfin Pickerel. It could be shortened to "Redfins".

We could still use "HTTR" if the team adopted this creature as its mascot.

I wrote before- Redhawks, because it would have been (and still could be the most seamless transition from Redskins. Redwolves, Red Storm, Red Almostanything works too.

I could have lived with Washington Football Team. Better than Commanders.

Warriors would be ok- friend of mine loves this because he imagines them playing clips from the Warriors movie during key plays.

The Burgundy & Gold- a mouthful but that is who we are.

Radical ideas:

Nationals- cut a deal with the Nats for cross marketing.

Redskins- 1) Say fu and bring it back or 2) Ditch all NA imagery, use R logo from Lombardi era, and declare that it refers to the color of the uniforms. I know, unlikely.

Redfins is so close to Redskins that it kinda works. It's subversive and has local ties. I still like mine best though I know it has next to no shot because it feels unique and fun, but when I heard Redfins my first thought was "Hmmm..." instead of the usual "Nahhh..."

Both peanuts and potatoes have redskin varieties. Peanuts are a major agricultural export of Virginia.

Reposting this from another thread as it pertains to this discussion:

I'm not necessarily married to the Native American theme. I really like when a team mascot/logo/name is directly related to something unique to the city/region in which it is located. Some good examples of this type of branding are:

-Lakers-When the team was located in Minnesota, this was a very apropos name. Minnesota is "The Land of 10,000 Lakes".
-Patriots-New England figured largely in the American Revolution and the colonial theme is on target.
-Steelers-Pittsburgh was a center of steel production when the name was adopted
-Thrashers-This now defunct NHL franchise located in Atlanta was named for the Georgia state bird (which has a menacing look)

So, I guess one could argue that it was in this general region (Virginia) that European settlers had some of their first encounters with native tribes. I can go along with this rationale.

But, Washington, D.C. is known more as the center of government for the United States. The Capitals and Nationals have based their names on this fact, and the Senators did in the past. Would choosing a name associated with the federal government be a more appropriate way to go with the Commanders next name? Some suggestions: "Founders" or "Presidents".

"Red Wolves" ain't bad. The Red Wolf's range did once include the eastern seaboard, though now it is only located in a small area of North Carolina.

So, then you're not a fan of the Washington Wyvern either I take it :D

I’m overthinking this, but I keep finding more reasons to dislike Warriors. The first is that it’s overly generic, the second is that other teams are already using the name, but the kicker is the reason so many seem to like it.

I don’t want Redskins Lite. I don’t want to think of everything we lost every time I see the Native American imagery and colors. It’d be worse than going into a grocery store as a five-year-old wanting Cap’n Crunch and getting some store brand Cap’n Crisp and being told it’s just as good.

It’s not. It will never be.

(Now that I’ve got that off my chest watch them choose it)

I was always particular to Redwolves, Wolves, or Warthogs.

Warthogs plays with our past and the alliteration sounds nice.

Will we get a rebrand though? Commanders is stupid and I'd get rid of it in a heartbeat, but you have to wonder if it's still a priority with ownership.

I just AI'd Redwolves - bad news

"RedWolves" was a popular choice among fans for the new name of the Washington Football Team, but it was ultimately not selected due to potential legal hurdles and trademark issues.

Check link dated three years ago

I had seen this too. But I always thought it was just Snyder being too cheap to negotiate/litigate for a name.

Washington Football Club
Washington Sentinels

I do like Warthogs as well.
I suggested this early on - Washington Senators (nod to our sports past) but it does share challenges with Commanders in that coming up with logos and iconic symbols would be a challenge.

I don't think 'Redskins' should be on the list as the owner has already stated emphatically that it is not on the table and isn't coming back.
