I have tons of stuff. But my fave is Nick Novak's game worn jersey.
He wore this jersey when the Redskins beat the Cowboys in 2005 - Monday Night Miracle at Texas Stadium. The Cowboys were favored by six. Nobody remembers Novak as a hero by any means in this game but most people don't remember that after the Redskins took the lead 14-13 with 2:30 left to play, and when Washington kicked off to the Cowboys, rookie Tyson Thompson, whose unofficial 40 yard dash time was "sub-4.4 seconds," - caught the kickoff at about the two yard line and exploded past the pack and down the right sideline like a lightening bolt. Shawn Springs was half a step behind Thompson and losing ground as Thompson streaked down the sideline, leaving only Nick Novak between Thompson and the goal line. Novak successfully made contact with Thompson at about the Dallas 44 yard line, but Thompson, now off-balance, was able to stay inbounds for three more steps, finally stepping out at the 50 yard line. For some reason, the refs marked the ball at the Redskins 48 yard line which was clearly incorrect looking at the replays. In my mind, Novak saved the game, but lots of players saved this game in the last four minutes, including Mark Brunell, Santana Moss, and of course, Sean Taylor, as well as the team as a whole. The game ruined Jerry Jones' celebration of "The Trio" consisting of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Michael Irvin who were all inducted into Texas Stadium's "ring of fame." In addition, the victory broke an 11-game losing streak for the Redskins at Texas Stadum. "One of the greatest moments for me in sports,", a quote by Joe Gibbs. "This shit's for the TRIO!", a quote by Santana Moss after his second catch. Most fans missed this game because it was incredibly boring up to the last four minutes with the Redskins down by 13 points late in the 4th quarter, and the game went past midnight on a week night. Most of Washington had gone to bed. My teenaged daughter DLSF and I watched it to the end. Redskins win.
As most know, the Cowboys almost always wear their white jerseys at home. But because of The Trio celebration, Jerry Jones apparently decided the team would wear dark blue at home for this MNF game. Which left the Redskins to wear their white jerseys.
The following season, the Cowboys played the Redskins at RFK, and because the Redskins wore white at home due to a tradition that Gibbs had started in 1981, Novak wore this same exact jersey which he had worn the previous year. This is proven by photo matching.
As most will recall, in this 2006 game, with the game tied at 19 and six seconds on the game clock, the ball was snapped, the hold was good, and the ball was kicked, but Troy Vincent blocked the sure walk-away-win field goal by Mike Vanderjagt, who was known as the most accurate kicker in the league. Sean Taylor picked up the loose ball and gained significant yardage. Add another 15 yards for a face-masking penalty. Novak hit the field goal from 47 yards out with :00 showing on the game clock. Another miracle. Redskins win.
I was sitting on the 50 yard line for this game.
I bought the jersey at the annual game-worn jersey sales events at FedExField the following winter. It came with a certificate, but that doesn't matter because it's photo-matched for both the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
But people don't care about kicker jerseys, but I hate Dallas.
