Just got to watch the Colts game on DVR.......here are some of my random thoughts as we head into the third "meaningless" game:
WHAT I LIKE:
-Overall team speed. Loving that even on a play where the opposing back breaks into the open he only picks up around 5-6 yeards cause there seems to always be SOMEONE chasing him down from across the field (Fox is my best example of this).
-Helu. Seems to be a terrific change of pace back from Hightower or Torain...whichever ends up the starting back.
-Hands. Love the fact that it seems like every back we throw out there has good hands catching passes out of the backfield.
-Accuracy. For the last five seasons it seems that we had quarterbacks (Campbell and McNabb) who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if their life depended on it. Both Grossman and Beck have shown the ability to hit receivers where they need it.....in their hands, in they guts, in stride. This has resulted in not only catches (at the very base level) but catches that lead to yards after the catch. This is the most welcome of sights I have seen on the field so far this year.
-Team play. On both sides of the ball....players are coming together and working as a unit.
-Darrel Young. Not sure if anybody's noticed, but this guy's been making plays every time he hits the field. Special teams, catching passes out of the backfield....he's made me forget about #45 very quickly.
-Wide receiver corps. If a ball is nearby (and it has been) these guys are making the catches. It's a darned shame about Malcolm Kelly but the man's just not been on the field to make a case for himself. Unless he plays tomorrow (and plays VERY well) then he'll be gone right quick.
-Turnovers. Or, the lack thereof. Except for a pass that should not have been thrown, not much to speak of here. I like that for obvious reasons.
WHAT I HATE:
-That Cooley, Landry and Kelly can't seem to get on the field. Still, it'll be a nice boost when/if they finally do.
-That Gano has been absolutely perfect to date. I'm really pulling for the guys but damn, this sure makes me nervous.
-That we still haven't gone out and picked up another backup offensive lineman. Can't shake the feeling that we're still a little light there...let's hope that doesn't come back to haunt us.
-The rest of the NFC east. A lot. Can't stand any of em...the season can't get here soon enough.
