Just got to watch the Colts game on DVR.......here are some of my random thoughts as we head into the third "meaningless" game:

WHAT I LIKE:

-Overall team speed. Loving that even on a play where the opposing back breaks into the open he only picks up around 5-6 yeards cause there seems to always be SOMEONE chasing him down from across the field (Fox is my best example of this).

-Helu. Seems to be a terrific change of pace back from Hightower or Torain...whichever ends up the starting back.

-Hands. Love the fact that it seems like every back we throw out there has good hands catching passes out of the backfield.

-Accuracy. For the last five seasons it seems that we had quarterbacks (Campbell and McNabb) who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if their life depended on it. Both Grossman and Beck have shown the ability to hit receivers where they need it.....in their hands, in they guts, in stride. This has resulted in not only catches (at the very base level) but catches that lead to yards after the catch. This is the most welcome of sights I have seen on the field so far this year.

-Team play. On both sides of the ball....players are coming together and working as a unit.

-Darrel Young. Not sure if anybody's noticed, but this guy's been making plays every time he hits the field. Special teams, catching passes out of the backfield....he's made me forget about #45 very quickly.

-Wide receiver corps. If a ball is nearby (and it has been) these guys are making the catches. It's a darned shame about Malcolm Kelly but the man's just not been on the field to make a case for himself. Unless he plays tomorrow (and plays VERY well) then he'll be gone right quick.

-Turnovers. Or, the lack thereof. Except for a pass that should not have been thrown, not much to speak of here. I like that for obvious reasons.

WHAT I HATE:

-That Cooley, Landry and Kelly can't seem to get on the field. Still, it'll be a nice boost when/if they finally do.

-That Gano has been absolutely perfect to date. I'm really pulling for the guys but damn, this sure makes me nervous.

-That we still haven't gone out and picked up another backup offensive lineman. Can't shake the feeling that we're still a little light there...let's hope that doesn't come back to haunt us.

-The rest of the NFC east. A lot. Can't stand any of em...the season can't get here soon enough.

I am watching now too. My first impression: we may have found the worst announcers in America. My goodness! These guys make Joey T and Bryant Gumbel look like Pat Summerall in his prime. Awful!

There's a replay tonight at 8:00pm est on the NFL Network for anyone who wants to see it again. I share your concern about the O line also, but i think we're just buying time till some better players come available after the final cuts.

If nothing more, out of self preservation I have to think our offense simply can't be anywhere near as good as it's looked during the preseason. Even so, I agree with you about our team speed as well as your comments about our RBs. There's no way in hell I'd keep the brittle Torain over any of the younger guys and unless he can find a home at TE, Sellers may be through as well.

The really encouraging thing is that this draft really was more about the defense but in spite of that the offensive players we picked up late seem to be decent, serviceable players that actually belong on an NFL roster. Now there's something we're not accustomed to. What's the world coming to? Could it be we've finally got a halfway competent F.O. here? :cool4:

Concur w/ the likes. Am still worried greatly about the O Line in pass blocking. Run blocking has come a LONG way, though!@! Maybe that obviates the need for consistent pass blocking... but not really.

I still have a prblem w/ Danny Smith and will rejoice when he's finally gone...or when he makes me eat my words. I'll take either.

My biggest problem? Our doctors. We have WAY too many small injuries - and those only baloon upwards to bigger ones.

This is an issue with the trainers and strength coaches, not the doctors since it's those folks that implement preventative work that helps guard against injury. Doctors only come into play after the injury occurs.

Young has been playing very well, he's quite a nice surprise find for the Shanahans.

I also really like Logan Paulsen - he's made some mistakes for sure, as most 2nd-year, 7th-round picks are wont to do, but on Hightower's 58-yard run he absolutely annihilated the linebacker. He was driving him backwards several yards away as TH ran by.

Duly noted...

But the training/conditioning staff should be taking their direction from the team doctor. It should be a coordinated effort of preventative care. I was happy when Bubba Tyer was finally out and expected the hammies to decrease. Didn't happen. That makes me wonder if the problems aren't further up the chain.

I was down in Miamuh for 20+ years and I never remember them having these nagging issues.

I should have called out that staff, tho - ur right!

He's becoming my favorite 'Skin! Hope he does well this season.
