And how were they ?

Recently I called up a good friend in Pensacola, and asked "What're you doin ?"
He says, "Cookin up some good roadkill. Eatin up a whole Raccoon."
I'm like, "Bro !"
And he goes, "Don't worry, the heat kills all the Rabies"
And I'm like, "Rabies wouldn't be my only concern."

For me, the furthest I've gone is probably Alligator and Octopus.
But I do love me some Bison, a whole lot.
How about you all ?

I expected to see you having a moment with a squirrel in this thread.

Ha. I would definitely try a bite of them. But they're so dang hard to trap, because they're incredibly intelligent, and can easily sense the dangers of a trap

I've tried all of the usual exotic stuff - gator, bison, elk, squirrel, rabbit, wild boar, etc... I've had rattlesnake (which tastes about like you'd imagine) and goat (which is very good). I’ve had about every kind of seafood known to man, octopus, geoduck, conch, eel, etc..There are a lot of other things I wouldn't mind trying. I've never had bear meat, and would love to try that as it was a staple and treat during the Lewis and Clark trek. Some meats I would try but not be super excited about would be raccoon, possum, armadillo - they just sound like they'd be nasty.

I don’t know if it is considered ‘unconventional’ here but reindeer steak is delicious.

Say what??

I’m sure I’ve eaten stuff overseas that I didn’t and don’t want to know about.

Ate worms as a kid on the typical dare thing.
Puffer fish out of the Chesapeake. Again on a dare. They’re not nearly as toxic as other versions but didnt know that at 14ish.
Smoked toadfish tail.
Big black drum are nasty as hell.
They gave us live rabbits to catch, kill, eat in SERE school. Not wild looking brown rabbits but cute furry fellas like you’d find in pet store. 🤦‍♂️
Squirrel just bc my son wanted to try it.
Scorpion fish (they’re actually really good and invasive. Kill em all)
Blood pudding is nasty

If it doesn’t make you sick, it’s good eats.

I have eaten some really great food all over the world. I've been to like 60 or 70 countries and always wanted to bond with the local people and one of those rituals is of course eating together. I will try and make my story short about something that has not been mentioned here yet.

I was attached to the 10th Special Forces Group in southern Germany in Bad Tolz. We were responsible for Europe, the Middle East and North Africa at the time (MED). For some strange reason they sent us to Panama and we had to go through jungle training. We all found this ironic because we had been conducting high altitude/alpine heavy winter and snow training.

So we all went to Panama and all passed jungle training which was really not difficult but hot as fuck. We graduated, got another patch and went out that night. Being typical dog face soldiers we got hammered went to the red light and basically had a great time. We were walking around the streets around 3:00 or 3:30 in the morning and there was a guy that had a little Grill on the side of the road and he was selling kabobs.

One of the guys who had been to Panama before and he said, dude we got to get this it's killer. For like a dollar or two you got three kabobs with about six or nine inches of meat per kabab. It kind of had this Spanish Asian marinade not Teriyaki but you get the idea. We were all fucked up and started chowing down. I was like damn this is really good what is this?

This is semi-related. Back in 2019, I visited Ecuador. One of the dishes they eat is guinea pig. I was going to try it but was warned its not great and the restaurant where I found it wanted to charge something like $100 a plate and I wasn't going to pay a hundred bucks to eat guinea pig especially when I was told it's really street cuisine.

But, I was told that the reason that they were named guinea pigs was because back in the colonial days, there would be stands where they would sell them to sailors coming off ships. They were cheap. They sold each one for just a single guinea. So, they became known as guinea pigs.

Lots of rabbit... most don't know but it's one the healthiest meats, and also a staple of Italy. Random order.... Squirrel, racoon, Ostridge, gator, Venison, bison, wild hog, goat, mutton, tripe, and just about any seafood including sushi, but favorite is octopus. Iguana, goose, duck, Muscovy duck, pheasant, quail, squab.

I hate tripe I hate chitlins and I hate lung

I will eat foie gras all day long

I was in Alaska and the restaurants and street vendors sold Reindeer Sausage.
I don't know how similar it is, to the steak, but the sausage was amazing

I guess all those carrots translate to more nutrition for us.
So maybe the inverse is true, and the Dumpster Diving Diet of the Raccoon, translates to bad health to us
