WFT Time Machine - One Game, One Player

Yep. For this one game, given our roster limitations heading in ... Joe Theismann.

He'd probably even show up for his postgame presser.
 
THEESmann would be there, blowdryer in-hand.

This team was 6-7 with a healthy Alex Smith and lost the last 2 without a capable quarterback. Easily the most needy area of the team.

Agree on Theismann.

My feeling is Washington would have already locked up the East with Smith healthy and would be closing on an 8-8 or 9-7 record.
 
This is a good question for sure. I agree that QB is the biggest need. But looking back through the QB history of this team, it’s hard to find one I’d feel confident in. Sure, Baugh and Jorgensen were great, but it was a completely different era. Theismann was great too, but when I’ve watched full game replays of his, he wasn’t all that great. He has his moments for sure and he had the swag and heart to be a QB. But I think he too would struggle with the game today. So if I went for a QB, I’d rather take my chances with someone like Trent Green or Rich Gannon. Those guys didn’t do much here, but they had good success. Gannon especially in Oakland. And it happened in an era close to what we see today.

This team throughout its most successful years was built on the running game. Even now, look at what Gibson is doing and what McKissic does in the passing game. Barber even looks better when Gibson plays. That makes the QB look so much better.

So having said all of that, I think the best pick is to pick a lineman who can block and help the run and pass. So I’d probably go with Lachey as I’m partial to him. But really, Jacoby, Samuels, even pothead Trent in his prime would be a huge improvement on this current team.
 
Trent and Gannon are good options, but someone mentioned Stan Humphries and he might be the best option of them all on Scott’s offense.
 
Theismann if only to see the single bar helmet again.
 
Unless you are going to project a 1960's Sonny Jurgensen at qb I don't see how you could go with anyone other than Theismann, who is the only qb we have had that was named an NFL MVP.

Joe was a great athlete and had the mobility coaches look for in their qbs today.

He would be fine behind this OL which is not the worst in the league but certainly not one of the top 10 either.
 
with the close games I am shocked nobody mentioned Mark Moseley or Chip Lohmiller.

Seems to me worth repeating, though, that coming into this with an iffy, hobbled Alex Smith and a "who's that?" Taylor Barnecki as our QB options, if you could choose one spot on the roster to plug an all-time Redskins into, it would have to be at that position. I'll take Joey T in this instance. He wasn't Sonny as a passer, no---nobody is---but his mobility and accuracy and quick release were perfectly suited to the ball-control O we're running, and his legs would be a huge benefit.

And that's all I have to say about that.

I would still say Sean. His history against the Iggles alone proves he can change the course of a game and secure it.

Defense wins championships :)

Don’t @ me, but Garçon also would disappear for entire games. When he was on, I agree. But I saw a lot of games where he wasn’t a huge factor.

How about Donnie Warren or Clint Didier?
 
Garcon was as tough as they come, too. Never the #1 we wanted, but he would get the dirty yards, the hard fought ones. He was never afraid to get up in someone's face, and he had the prettiest ball spin out there.
 
I saw this thread on Twitter and my knee-jerk reaction was Joey T. After thinking about it for several days, I'm still on the Joey T bandwagon. QB is the one obvious position holding this team back right now and after that is OL. I don't feel like adding a lineman will help our existing QBs much but putting in a QB who can move and can make all the throws will help our OL. It would also make our existing WRs better. No need for a superstar. Just a guy with good feet who knows how to hit the open man.

I considered defense too and my first thought was Darrel Green because we need corner help. After thinking about it though, I think Taylor makes both corners better with his range, nose for the ball, and how every receiver had to know where he was all the time in order to protect their personal health. His mear presence on the field was good for a couple of opposition drops a game.

Having said those two things, I'll stick with Joey T for this game. Although I fear even an upgrade at QB can't fix this team with the current play calling. :(

I don't think you can fairly evaluate Turner until you have a quarterback that is mentally and physically able to execute his gameplans.

Haskins had the arm but not the mental preparation to succeed at this level. He missed open receivers for long gainers or TDs each week he started that a veteran quarterback would have hit.

Alex Smith may be one of the smartest players in the NFL but at age 37 he is limited now in mobility and in down the field arm strength.

A staple of Turner's offense is that 20 yard deep out to the WR and Scott hasn't had one quarterback so far that can execute that play consistently.

Neophyte mentioned potentially not being able to win this game against the Eagles with the current playcalling so I was following up on that thought.
