I agree that picking for scheme is important. I trust teams like NE and Pittsburgh have their own draft/points systems, etc.
What is curious is how NE almost never takes receivers high in Round 1 or 2.
With Brady the temptation might be to get him some track athletes to throw to. But invariably they sign free agents like Hogan or LaFell at the mid-range or work out trades for a Welker, etc.
They drafted Edelman and Mitchell. But the only high pick I recall was Dobson, who turned out to be a bust.
I suppose the bust factor for receivers is perceived by many to be higher than some other positions, so Belichick isn't going to spend many picks there.
He seems to really like taking OL as well as LB and DBs, often moving out of Round 1 and bringing in 3 or 4 guys in those mid rounds 3-5.
While some miss he hits on a lot of them too.
And in those hits he has a guy on a really cheap contract for 3-4 years.
