carolina secondary coach Wilke(sp) has been linked also but the secondary stunk worse than ours
 
I doubt Vrable will leave Houston. He could've jumped the 49ers DC job last year but didn't. Granted there are a multitude of reasons to pass on that job but still he didn't get froggy. Bill O'Brien, Crennel and Vrable all went through NE and have ties. Crennel is 69 and his contract is up. Certainly young enough to continue if he wishes but he's made $7M in the last three years. It's a job that probably gets passed down to Vrable sooner or later. He has three years of NFL coaching experience - all at LB coach. 3 years as a LB/dLine coach at Ohio State.

All things considered from both sides I don't see it happening. Not really against the idea just don't see it.

Joe Gibbs had the luxury of an experienced DC in Richie Petitbon.

The Redskins need to provide Gruden with the same, a guy that can run the defense basically on his own and hold his players accountable.

Gruden went with Barry because he was Gruden's age and was younger than Wade Phillips, who is a generation older.

But that was a mistake.

McCloughan needs to 'help' Gruden make a good selection here and ensure we have what we need on that side of the ball.

Let's face it, with Josh Norman taking dubious penalties during the season and getting less than stellar performances from Breeland, Smith and some others, the defense needs somebody with credibility to come in here and clear the air.

Barry was never going to be able to reign in Norman or prevent Breeland from brooding over his move to nickel corner.

He lacked that credibility - the players are as aware as the fans are that Joe Barry's last gig as DC was for the 0-16 Lions, working for his father.

A guy like Wade Phillips brings playoff and recent Super Bowl experience.

He is a bigger name than anyone on this defense.
 
We should grab Wade if he becomes available. Instant credibility and proven defensive genius. No downside. Even if he decides to retire in a few years.

No chance of a Ryan brother. No thanks on Bowles either. And absolutely not on Gregg Williams.
 
Wade Please. Its a recognizable name and a proven defensive cord.

No more of these questionables. At least not until we win a few season.
 
It'll all depend on Gruden's ego. Whether or not Phillips is offered the job.

Well, that, and if Phillips is willing to take the job after being stiffed (if that's what happened) last time.

"So, Wade, what makes you want the job now after being told to **** off 2 years ago?" (Taking it now doesn't show much pride)

This has high drama potential.
 
Rhodes had some serious health issues in last job. You won't see him coach again.

Bradley is supposedly the front runner, but is this smoke and mirrors?

An added note. If Jason LaConfora reports it you can believe it's wrong.
