Welcome to the Commanders - Jayden Daniels

Yeah, you just didn't want him on your team because he was the ultimate distraction when he was in uniform.

I see no reason why Daniels can't start week 1 if Griffin was able to do it. I remember Griffin throwing for 300+ and 2 TD's against NO.

Emotional intelligence is as important as physical ability. Daniels appears to have both.

So, he's a good bet to put in the work necessary to be the starter sooner rather than later.

With Griffin, remember how much Shanahan had to dumb down the offense so Griffin could come out and be effective early.

One read off the RPO and get rid of the ball, run, etc.

Doesn't look as if Daniels needs the lollipop.

Well, we definitely lacked that fire and love for the game under Rivera.

Heck, at times I wondered if anyone in this organization was actually awake.

Reality check of the day:

There's been a huge amount of focus on and hype surrounding Jayden Daniels 'work ethic'. While I love hearing about it, we should keep in mind that no one, ever, anywhere was a monumental success simply because they got to work before everyone else. You know who had the greatest work ethic in NFL history? Tim Tebow. How'd that work out?

It's great that our new young QB appears to be motivated and has good habits. It also guarantees nothing and, if we're being honest, may be well down the list in terms of key factors in his ultimate success or failure.

Just trying to keep it real in what is becoming a sea of hype.

Sure. But talent, plus sweat, and diligence is a good combo. I do remember some diva concerns about Daniels pre-draft. Hearing that he is the first one in the building can never be a bad thing. You want your QB to be a film-nerd and out work everyone.

No argument with any of that. And it still may mean nothing in terms of his career trajectory. I guess it also depends on how he is using that additional time. I know sometimes I show up at work early and it's probably the least productive time I spend. No one is there. I get to 'ease into' my day and do whatever I like. I am obviously not arguing it's a bad thing. But it feels like something that is said about a lot of promising potential young stars, especially QBs, and yet most of them fail. Something to keep in mind.

Thing is, I think this fan base is much more likely to suffer from cynicism and negativism than it is to be overoptimistic and euphoric. So, these cautionary posts always feel unnecessary. There really is nothing wrong with feeling good about the team. Not every positive needs to be followed by a cautionary warning.

Lol. It’s probably the first skeptical football post I’ve made since the Harris group took over. The point I’m trying to make is, we’d be hearing this same stuff from the media and even the team no matter who they’d drafted at QB - and history says some of these top drafted QBs won’t be successful. I don’t think pointing it out qualifies as being a buzzkill.

Maybe not you lol

But this fanbase specializes in buzzkill. If I ever need to hire a terminator I look no further than my fellow 'skins fans. They always know how to fumigate any creeping optimism. Hopefully, that'll change with Snyder gone, but I have 20 years of mostly deserved negativity that's been thrown at me. I've tried showers, seances, all sorts of stuff to clear away the stink, but it lingers so I'm wary of encouraging the stinkbugs.

At least we are not New England where the HC is making public pronouncements as to how far their new highly drafted QB has to go and how much improvement he needs.

He does look damn fine in a uniform though.

Does it mean anything on the field that he’s the first one in the building in May? No not alone.

Would it mean something on the field if he was slacking off and missing OTAs to shoot commercials?

….possibly

Similar to reports of “5 passes on 5 attempts in 7 on 7 drills” doesn’t mean much, but 2 passes on 5 attempts in the same drill would.

Don’t know that I buy that ST. We’d certainly be hyperventilating about those things but not sure they would be evidence of much of anything in terms of the big picture.

I certainly prefer the good hype variety - don’t get me wrong

my point was the fact that throwing against air he SHOULD look good. If he looks bad, that's more of an indicator than him looking good.

I also said "possibly" because there is no absolute effect on the regular season with anything we're seeing right now.

In a vacuum it would mean pretty much nothing, but if he was air mailing throws and looking wildly inaccurate, if he were to struggle mightily as a pro, it would be easy to look back and say 'we saw this all the way back in May"

the fact that Daniels appears humble enough to know he has things to work on and learn at this stage sets him way ahead of Dwayne Haskins and Robert Griffin III, who clearly underestimated what it takes to make it and stick in the league over the long term.

we know he can make the throws, he can run, etc. from the film and the pro day, for a guy drafted this high it's often the intangibles that get them if they disappoint or don't make it.

most of us that don't consume 8 hours of SEC football every Saturday are only starting to get to know the player.

A little outside, but he wasn't really going for it either.

Daniels doesn’t look 210.

When you look at Forbes and then Daniels it appears to me that Daniels is about 25 pounds heavier - perhaps in that 198 range?

I think Forbes is now about 171-ish.
