Walter Football: Redskins Rookies Forecast

Overall, I don't think it's a good assessment.
I disagree with a lot of things he said, I just don't have time to break it all down.
But one thing that stands out, is that he talks about Tyler Polumbus, as if he's a Pro Bowl Stud :

"Moses doesn't have the pressure to come and start immediately with veteran Tyler Polumbus in house"

I like a lot of what he said, and I thought it was optimistic overall.

However, I do notice one trend that I don't like. I don't know what the league averages are, but it sure feels like we have a lot of players that are recovering from injuries. And we are drafting a lot of guys that had injuries in college.

I bet we could collectively list 15 different players right now on this team that are recovering from serious injuries, and that's too many. I'll start with a few obvious ones:

1. RG3
2. Chase Minnifield
3. Hatcher
4. Hankerson
5. Jenkins
6. Spencer Long
7. Seastrunk
8. Chris Thompson
9. Phillip Thomas
10. Keenan Robinson

That seems like a lot, doesn't it? And many of these guys are recent draft picks.

I'm not a big fan of drafting players who had serious injuries in most cases.

15 of 52...that is not that big of a deal. A lot of teams have injured players that come in injured or get hurt some time during the season.

Is this accurate?

I don't really follow college sports but I'm pretty sure he played in every game for Baylor in 2008, 2010 and 2011.

This is inaccurate, reported incorrectly by NFL.com.

I was at work on the computer when I typed it, or I would have checked for accuracy. My apologies.

We have a large number of players who have suffered major injuries, but most of them occurred while in the NFL. Football is a tough sport, and I can't fault the team for that.

But five of them, including Minnifield who I love as a player, were draft picks.

It may just be a coincidence, or a one or two year period where we happened to take shots on these guys in the draft. I just don't want to see it become a common practice.

I know that some of these, like Minnifield who if not injured may have been a second rounder, just provide so much value where we got him that it's nearly impossible to pass up.

But we aren't exactly stacked across the board, and we need draft picks to be healthy enough to get on the field.

No, he was UDFA

Well that makes all the sense in the world then. I'm full of inaccuracies today. I incorrectly thought we drafted him in the 7th--which still wouldn't be that bad.

Good God, I'm not even at happy hour yet.

I think every once and a while you roll the dice on a guy who fell because of injury. If it's an injury history, then you stay away. But if it's a one time injury and you believe he can recover and he is rated higher than where he is, you take him. I don't think teams should be making a habit of this, but you have to take a risk occasionally.
