I wanted to let everyone know that I've started working on a special edition of Redskins Recon to gauge the fan sentiment across the league about Robert Griffin's knee injury and how it has been-and is being handled and the possible ramifications . This is not only the top NFL story but one of if not the top sports stories nationwide at this time and I thought it would be interesting to find out what fans of other NFL teams were saying.
Upon first perusal it looks likely that nearly every fan forum in the NFL has a thread going about this. I'm obviously not going to be able to include all 31 other teams due to space and time constraints so what I'm doing is selecting first, teams that don't play the Redskins and aren't likely to have any special amount of love or hate for the team in order to get what you could call a "neutral observer's" perspective. Second teams that have played the Redskins, at least one who we beat and one who beat us. I'll try to have both AFC and NFC teams included.
One thing I haven't decided upon is whether or not to include any of our NFCE rivals-the main reason being the division animosity will color the posted opinions greatly, although if I get a request I'll try to work something in.
In fact, if someone as a particular team whose fans they would like to hear from. let me know and I'll see if I can work them in.
A couple of things to keep in mind, first Robert Griffin is very popular among fans of many teams in the NFL-his skill and personality have made him a fan favorite which will affect what they post and second, Mike Shanahan, while greatly respected for his skills at coaching especially offensively is not as well liked by NFL fans generally. This is something I've noticed in my Recon travels-this also will color the responses.
I'll try to post within the next three days or so, depending on the volume I have to work with and I'll have to be fairly selective given space constraints. In fact that's why I'm putting this information in a separate post to reserve the Recon for fan comments-which, by the way, will be categorized by team.
This may prove to be very interesting.
