In the 80s with the Hogs and Petibon defenses we WON the trenches more often than not.

The Steelers and Eagles game made it clear we LOST the trenches - is it simply a matter of a more lax offseason and strength and conditioning program?

The POWER RUN GAME has disappeared. When will be be able to run straight for 5-6 yards on first down versus having to rely on the pass to open up the run?

When will we sack the QB without needing to blitz?

1. We lack true playmakers on the DL. It’s going to take some time to build a full team. But they need more explosive athletes.

2. On the OL, we have a good group which got beaten down. But they will continue to add pieces.

Don’t forget, Trent Scott started at RT for the Steelers game. Coleman is hurt, Lucas has missed multiple games, Biadacz has been in and out of the lineup.

One thing we are not along the OL is deep. The fact we had to play Tackle #4 against the Steelers was a disaster waiting to happen.

My hope is some rest and not playing defenses which are not elite will allow them to return to early season form? Where they were dominating the LOS.

Can you add context? I don’t understand the premise of this question.

We played two of the best "trenches" teams in the league within 4 days. Eagles OL, Steelers front 7.

The only guys on our OL that have played with each other before this year are Cosmi and shit ass Wylie.

On DL, Payne is having a great year, we lost Allen for the year. Newton is 12th in run stops and 1rst for rookies after missing camp.

Maybe if Coleman and BRob were healthy in both games, the outcomes are different.

Our trenches are pretty dang good, especially after last year.

Specifically, Coleman got beat for a sack in each game vs a speedier rusher aligned in a wide 9. Not sure why he didn’t get chip help in either instance. Carter and Heyward both had very good game against us and I think Biadasz’s injury played into that. I also saw Wylie at times tasked with reach blocking the DT (with our C and/or G pulling), which is difficult enough as it is, but against those 2 DTs… good luck.

More generally, we’re still lacking some talent (especially when matched against top D lineman), and guys are/were banged up (particularly Biadasz and Wylie). And part of it is playing against front 7s that are both talented and disciplined.

I think there’s also a disconnect somewhere as to how to attack/deal with some of these top notch D lineman/fronts. For example, Wylie can reach block/seal a good DT if it’s a toss to the right, but it’s just not going to work on runs between the tackles.

Seems relevant to post this here. Something to note, Coleman is outperforming some rookie OT's that were drafted ahead of him. So don't clown him yet for playing like a rookie. He's not far off Fuaga's level of play, and most say he's been great (just not Joe Alt great).

3/5 of our oline was on the injury report on some level, and we were on our 3rd string RT. The offensive line that started the season was not the one we had on the field.

Btw, we gave up no sacks to TJwatt

I am hoping we draft OT early in the draft next season. If Wylie is kept (he can play guard too, I would hope we would have enough depth there. I am wondering about our DL though. With Mathis, Newton and Payne it would seem we should be strong in the center of the line, however, I fear we are not. (I have no way to watch the games).

We lack electricity here in the outback. We rely on rats on meth running in a hamster wheel to produce energy. Just enough to use a computer.

NFL+ is only 15/mo and you can watch any game any time after it has been played. Plus you get access to red zone.

Get bigger rats? A few 'roos maybe? :)

I wonder why he didn't sign him and put him at RT to replace Wylie
Because Wylie has been basically fine most of the year and the group, when healthy, has been very good. And playing well together as a unit.

He missed the Pitt game with a shoulder, and played hurt in the Eagles game.

They might upgrade during the off season, but I’m damn sure they don’t want to mess with the OL chemistry or the locker room by bringing anybody in at this point. Unless forced to by injury.

I thought they might do something when 3 tackles all got hurt at the same time (Coleman, Lucas and Wylie) which forced Trent Scott to play. But they seem to have weathered that storm.
