Training Camp and Preseason Thread - Twitter Heavy

that is the battle to watch. If Smith doesn't get it, does he demand a trade? If so, does that negate his contract? That is a buttload of money to continue eating from him. If Kyle doesnt get it, same?

I dont think either one is goin anywhere.

I imagine Smith is set as the 3rd string guy and he's ok with that. Likely understands the dynamic and that if he were to find his way on the field, it would be a ceremonial thing out of respect. Allen is likely the no. 2 with Smith the no. 3. Just my thoughts.

Smith himself has expressed doubts as to whether he can physically hold up. So you know the team has serious doubts. Not sure what happens but if I had to guess they’ll keep all 3. I don’t know the financial implications of a release but I think that could also happen if they just don’t feel they can afford a roster spot on him. I don’t see them practice squad-ing him.

The $33 million dollar practice squad QB. What a world!

we can't release him

Releasing him results in a $30mil + hit this year and carrying over $10 mil dead cap next year. Now you might say "but we have the cash to eat that $30 mil right now" but that ultimately hurts us more to do it that way with the cap situation being what it will next year. It's likely going to drop to $175 million next year which is down $23 from this year. As of now the Washington Football Team has $26 mil in space that we can carry over ( I believe we can carry all of it but it might only be a portion...). In 2021 RIGHT NOW we have $152 mil on the books. We carry over $26mil paired with the lower cap number and we have $59mil in a season where it's VERY likely that a lot of teams are handcuffed and forced to make tough decisions that may offer us talent we normally would not be able to get. Now you also have to account for rookies next offseason and what that would cost, but the point is still valid. I also don't see Smith playing next year (i didn't see him coming back so take that for what it's worth) and if he retires, we're even better off.

Edit: Thought practice was limited to press but it looks like there are a fair amount of people covering it..

My guess:

Peterson / Davis getting a vet day
Allen - no point in pushing him
Fuller - dont want the injury to nag so hold him out... cut downs Saturday, not at risk of losing his job... why push it? (Hopeful)
Charles possibly goes to IR
Gandy-Golden working in Rehab area
Donald Payne - has had an injury for a few days at least

Looks like i was wrong... not sure what's up with AP. Assume it's nothing serious

He's working on the side field.

Option play with Gibson and McKissic in the backfield. Gibson was originally lined up in the slot with McKissic to Haskins right.

Love seeing this kind of stuff.

the option? We better NEVER run that in a game..

I doubt we ever do.

We're likely not gameplanning yet. Still have to cut down 27 players by 4pm on Saturday so true playbook planning is likely very limited. Haskins / Gibson / McKissic are likely doing some of the more obscure stuff that is in the playbook but unlikely used with any sort of regularity. Their roster spots are secured so no real evaluation going on there.

Yep. It happens with guys once they get paid.

Hopefully Rivera doesn't just cut him for it LOL

Not in attendance...?

Different than not participating or terrible choice of language used?
