Trade Deadline 2024 - Nov 5 - 4pm ET

It's not up to us as Boone said.

At the same time I find it hard to believe sitting at 7-2 and having a realistic chance of competing with the Eagles for the division in 2024, that Washington would be so rigid one way or another to pass up a move or two that could help beat the Eagles in our head to head matchups.

Peters is about building through the draft. But as we saw in Denver and SF where the accent of the football operation was on April, that didn't mean there weren't exceptions, times when an advantageous situation arose to improve the team at reasonable cost through trade or other means.

The other factor here is the existence of a trade deadline market halfway through the season is a relatively new phenomenon in the NFL.

In the past, we rarely saw teams trade players during the season but the past 2-3 years the NFL has become a bit more like major league baseball or the NHL where deadline deals for rental vets or players looking to go to teams still on contention for the playoffs has become much more common.

So, in that regard I am not sure looking back at what a GM or AGM said 5 or 6 years ago about personnel strategy may no longer reflect the same viewpoints in total.

I have absolutely no doubt that Adam Peters is NOT trading our #1 or #2 pick in next year's draft.

We also aren't going to take on a player who is owed a load of future monies based on his current contract.

But otherwise? No on really knows.

That's fair and while Adams is a draft-first-GM, he also saw firsthand how the trade for McCaffrey changed the 49ers fortune. So, if there is a value (or better yet a steal) I doubt he'd hesitate. In fact, I bet he's listening to phonecalls right now and making a few inquiries, too. If the due diligence nets nothing or nothing that will be of value beyond this season then I don't think he does anything unless, as I speculated earlier in the thread it's one of those I'll give you our fourth for a player and your fifth type of deals.

Bulldog , NY Giants and Dallas Cowboys as well. Though the Cowboys might not fully know it. And neither are probably trading in division. But, for the sake of completeness, Giants and Dallas are on the list.

Btw, Young made a heck of a play on a 2 point conversion for the saints yesterday. Maybe we can get him back for a conditional ham sandwich? (J/K)

I don't agree on that. Jerry Jones is not going to help the Commanders win the division. In fact, today he came out and said the Cowboys season was not over, so he's in the bunker right now underground in survival mode.

Mara hates the Redskins/Commanders and has for years. Remember the cap penalty he assessed against Washington which screwed up our cap for several years on a dubious foundation of league guidance and bylaws?

Well, he may appreciate Harris taking over from Snyder but guaranteed he doesn't want to see Washington succeed.

NFC East is not like the NFC West where you see teams trade good players within the division.

Chase Young?

I wouldn't take him back for $1.99 and a ham sandwich.

Yeah. I will pass on Chase. And I am not really sure that Peters should mess with the vibe in the building right now. Yes we could use a Corner, edge or WR. But is it worth possibly messing with something that is going so well right now?

Peters got to see Young in San Francisco.

He watched him loaf in the playoffs. That’s a burned bridge.

How about the acquisition of that one corner being a force multipllier? Gives us better depth at a critical position but it also convinces players that the front office is ALL IN on trying to push in 2024 and not waiting to 2025 or 2026 to make the playoffs.

I don't know that a 7-2 start sliding into a poor finish at 9-8 or something like that is necessarily good for the organization at this point.

Yes, we would have taken 9-8 at the beginning of the year but now, sort of like the 1980 hockey team, we are there, let's do something special.

I think there are 3 positions of need where a really strong addition could make an immediate impact. Corner, WR, and pass rusher (Om talks about this a lot as an impact pass rusher would immediately help cover up a lot of our DB weaknesses).

I would be surprised if we do add a player if he's not from one of those 3 position groups.

I agree with this mentality: in GMAP I trust, and also only making a move if it's in the long term interest of the team. I think T Hendrickson or Lattimore would be good move for both the short/long term, so it's just a matter of if available and for what price. A 3rd for either one is a good deal for us imo. I also am in the camp that thinks cb is greatest need. Give me Lattimore for a 3rd and light the cigar ditka style.

I'm surprised that so far there have been no real trades by any teams since the games yesterday.

Maybe there will be some news tomorrow and hopefully none of it involves the Chiefs, Lions, Eagles, 49ers, etc. :munching-out:

Probably going to take at least a 4th to get anyone decent, even with Forbes etc thrown in
Agree. At this point, I think AP is more inclined to trade a 4th and hope to get back a 5th/6th from a team he's trading with. I also think it possible, since he like to build through the draft to only give up a 6th or 7th rounder for player or players. Less that 24 hours to go to find out.

I suspect we stand pat for a couple of reasons. First of all and most importantly, Adam Peters is really a draft guy. He is going to use the draft as the primary tool to rebuild this roster and he is very uninclined to give up draft picks for ANY reason. Secondly, in any trade discussion, he's not going to pull the trigger unless it's a great value for what we are giving up, and there are enough stupid GMs out there who will overpay for just about any player. That makes us winning a bidding war (or even participating in one) extremly unlikely. And then there is the 'fit' aspect that you guys have referenced. We let a very talented Curtis Samuel go with no adequate replacement behind him, and I think it's because they didn't like something about his fit.

The wildcard over the next 24 hours is if there are (as Adam Shefter hinted at yesterday) players who are absolutely adamant about wanting to be traded to Washington. That could create a situation where the only team an agent is interested in dealing with is us, and that could produce a surprise bargain signing.

I still think a significant trade is unlikely and that Peters stands pat.
Agreed, Boone. The only way I see a trade happening with us is if they come down to who AP will trade to them and for what he will give up for that player (i.e., a 6th rounder) since we have 2 6ths in next year's draft. We shall soon find out.

Tick-tock.

We will know all the answers within the next dozen or so hours.

As far as DTs, besides Payne and Newton.
Mathis, concussion. Expect him to miss the Steelers game although no word yet.

Jalyn Holmes. He had 1 tackle in the game vs the giants. Don’t know if he is ready for a major increase in playing time.

Haggai Ndubuisi. Practice squad. I would guess we would elevate him this week. Unless we bring in someone else or trade for someone tomorrow.

We know the Steelers will try to run all over us.

Peters got to see Young in San Francisco.

He watched him loaf in the playoffs. That’s a burned bridge.

We have enough trouble stopping mobile QBs without Young sprinting 15 yards past the QB and opening up a running lane my fat ass could run for 10.
