I’ll defer to you guys on whether we go with the darker burgundy or not. Hey - I comprowhined… I mean compromised!

Jon - can we do the est 2009 vertically per Om’s suggestion? Would make sense because while the height of the logo area is limited, we can go as wide as we want… and let’s make sure it is also centered o. The dc flag lines

Knight, for what it's worth, when I used the site RGB for the burgundy in the mockup above, I did NOT change the stars ... left them as you had them. They popped so much better.

Comes down to how it's going to look once installed at 190 pixels ...
 
2 things. I struggle like hell with collaboration. I don’t know if there’s anything I hate more than working in a big group. It probably doesn’t speak well of me. And if there are more alpha males in the group the harder it is.

I was on a jury where a guy had lead police on a high speed chase until he drove through an old womens house and almost killed her granddaughter. He somehow got away but the cops had him on tape basically admitting he’d done it. The foreman of the jury was this minister but he was aggressive as hell. He started trying to convince the group there was ‘reasonable doubt’. I basically had to take over control of the group and talk logic. We convicted the guy. A couple years later I saw in the paper that the minister was charged with being a pedophile. He must have identified with criminals.

i think the only conclusion I could draw from that experience is that anyone who ever disagrees with me is likely a criminal or a pedophile.

On swag - the limiting factor is volume. Typically if you want custom gear made you are looking at having to purchase 50-100 of them (unless you can find a local person who does that kind of work as a side hustle).

the stars looked right already, probably because they stood alone - weird how the optics work that way

Do we want the Est 2099 where you have it Mark or centered as I suggested?

Jon, the reason I want you to replicate Marks is because we need all of the base elements and the larger version of this for other uses if we go with this one…

The top one IS burgundy where as I always felt the bottom 2 were more of a maroon

So here's where I think we are ...

Clearly we have a possible winner here--from everybody's comments to date the concept and execution are just about sold. I think we'll let this marinate for over the weekend still, since not all of us regulars on the site have probably had a chance to see/process this yet. If there end up being no new ideas/thoughts that change the math, we'll end up going forward with what we have. I talked to Boone and it is not too hard to change the burgundy divider bars on the site, so I'm thinking we'll actually match them to the burgundy Knight came up with ... because it's sweet.

This is just a quick mockup to show what that might look like ...

I recognize that this version doesn't have the "period" in the Est. 2009 and the final version will. Two quick questions for the hive mind on that part ...

1) my eye wants to see the EST. 2009 inverted, i.e., to read from the top down, rather from the bottom up like in the above. Seems to better "close out" the image (if that makes sense) and feels more natural to me. Yay or nay?

2) for this mockup I grabbed the gold we use on the site (Post Thread button & the football graphics left of the forum divider bars). To my eye the existing color looks orange. If that's just me I'll shut up already about it--seriously. Maybe even do some of that embossing magic on that part too?
