Thoroughly, Embarrassingly, Out-Coached

Digging through Pro Football Reference, I learned the Redskins opponents have scored 29 or more points against the Redskins 115 times dating back to George Allen taking over in 1970. The Redskins have won a total of 17 of those games.

The most recent (in the past decade at least) were last week against the Saints, a 36-30 OT win against Jacksonville in 2006 and a 33-31 win over the Falcons in 2003.

Just a little historical perspective.

Defense matters.

So, after sleeping on it, I've determined that my initial response is 100% correct.

We didn't lose because of the refs. Even though calling them refs, is a ****ing joke. Roger Goodell, at the behest of his bosses, the owners, are playing Russian Roulette with player safety, and game quality. But, for financial reasons, i.e., greed, they don't care. Our game was the worst yet, as far as the refs allowing dirty/dangerous play, but it's been a part of every game I've watched so far this season, regardless of which teams are playing.

We didn't lose because the Rams have better players. Granted, Bradford is fine QB. He's probably their best player. But I'd say Griffin as already, as good, if not better. Our D-line, on paper, is better than their O-line, on paper. I'd say our LB's, even without Rak, are better than theirs. Steven Jackson, was removed by a legit disciplinarian coach, Fisher, so our running backs, on paper, are better than theirs. So, even if you call all the other areas equal, we are, on paper, a more talented team.

But, as we all know, too well, they don't play the game, on paper.

We lost because we were thoroughly, embarrassingly, out-coached. Fisher got more, out of less, than Shanny. He had his guys operating at peak effort. Their game plans, both offensively, and defensively, were brilliant. They looked like a veteran squad that had been game planning together for years. Ours looked like they just got together Sunday morning and threw something together.

Haslett doesn't look like he could adjust the setting on a rock. He gets lucky, on occasion, and gives the impression he might be ok. But it seems more often, that he isn't a very good game planner. He's not a very good in-game play caller. And his adjustments, well, remember the rock.

Danny Smith has to have compromising photos of Shanny, or Snyder. The Swiss Cheese Blocking scheme he employs doesn't seem to work. Maybe it's just me. "He Sucks!", is the nicest thing I can say about him.

Which brings us to Shanny. The man ultimately responsible. Fisher might as well have bent him over a chair on the 50 yard line and rode him like a broke down nag. Fishers team had an answer for everything.

Shanny's, not so much. Very disheartening.

Have to agree, Ax.

Let's say you got punched in the mouth a couple times; 999,999 people out of a million would do something to stop getting punched in the mouth. Throw up a hand, move away, whatever. Not ol' Haslett. I have to imagine his line of thinking in a bar fight would be "I'm going to stand here and take a few more punches in the mouth, and maybe his hand will break eventually!" MORON. Serv may be right (other thread) that even if he'd adjusted, we may have only been able to slow Amendola down, but JESUS. Do SOMETHING.

Danny Smith. I'm really not sure how some on this board continue to give him a pass. Because he was Joe Gibbs approved? Because of his firey personality? Not really sure. This dude sucks. Two blocked punts in two weeks is coaching, no other way around it. If Danny's schemes are adequate to good, and the players are just executing them poorly - that's on coaching. If Danny's schemes AREN'T good, then that's obviously on coaching. Either way, Danny Smith has got to go. He's got to!

Don't get me started on the waste of a roster spot Brandon Banks. Dude has been invisible in the first two weeks, except for TWO MUFFED PUNTS. His one friggin' responsibility in the game! This dude is awful, get him OUT of here.

The Rams just aren't that good. I believe it was Boone who pointed out in the chat that they are bad. They are. I and a few others tried to defend them, saying "they're not that bad," but no. They are the dregs of the NFL, and not only that, they were down to their 17th string offensive lineman in that game, and we STILL could not get pressure. Simply unbelievable that Bradford was only sacked what...twice? TWICE? Are you KIDDING? He was sacked that many times on the way to the bus last year. Opposing defenses started out with 2 sacks last year against this team.

And gotta agree about Shanahan - that 62-yard field goal attempt was the final straw for me. I'm ready for the Shanahan era to be over, unless things start to turn around soon.

Side note: Jenkins must not be 100% healthy - I've barely even noticed when he's on the field. When Carriker went down, it was Golston, not Jenkins who took his place; very telling, IMO.

Yeah, Banks is still, unimpressive.

And, other than absorbing a cheap shot, no penalty called hit, a screw up interfering with the snap from center, and another dropped pass, BrainDeadFred Davis is playing like a guy that could easily be replaced by Logan Paulsen.

Calling Captain Chaos!!!

Yeah, I have to agree with you here. I really figured Fred would be a focal point, as the TE is often a rookie's security blanket. I guess Griff doesn't need a security blanket though. Cooley would be a sight for sore eyes at this point.

Listening to Shanahan's post game press conference, he sounds like a rank amateur.

"He can kick a 62-yard field goal, because he can kick the ball out of the endzone on kickoffs."

WHAT? You moron, a lot of people can do that. Doesn't mean they can kick field goals accurately.

"We were going to do it [go for it on 4th and 16], but then the clock was running down, and we didn't have time to do it."

WHAT? NOT ENOUGH TIME? ARE YOU SH!TTING ME?

And on the special teams meltdown: "We knew they'd come after us."

Ummm...if you KNEW they were going for a block, and they STILL BLOCKED A PUNT...WTF? Terrible.

Another thing.

I would love to see some coaches, and Shanny could certainly lead the charge, pull out their check book at a press conference, and then blast the NFL, and Heir Goodell, for the incompetent use, of incompetent refs, and tell Goodell, "Fine me if you want, but this is a friggin joke."

But, we know they won't. They're company men. Their owners have probably instituted a gag order, colluding pieces of **** they are.

Coaches should defend their players here, and they're not.

Jeff Fisher, riding a bicycle, beat Mike Shanahan, riding a moped, in a 100yd dash.

Fisher was the best coach on the field, and it showed.

I think this game hinged more on the battle on the other side of the ball.

The Redskins scored enough points to win most games yesterday and might have still prevailed if not for Josh Morgan.

But the Redskins defense allowed a very average Rams offense to score 31 points.

Unlike NO, there were no pro bowl receivers to cover or pro bowl linemen to get past on the pass rush.

And yet Haslett came out and played a passive scheme that seemed better suited to facing a mobile stretch the play passer like Vick or Newton.

Bradford got no pressure and simply dumped the ball off to guys in the intermediate zones.

Did Haslett simply think Bradford was going to throw easy picks?

I characterize the refs as Chris Lee clones. Now, Chris Lee is an NHL ref who has drawn the ire of practically every ****ing hockey fan because he's purely incompetent. He doesn't really have a bias towards a certain team, it's just that he makes bad calls left and right for both teams. That is the state of the replacement refs in the NFL and on Sunday's game. Sure, the refs made horrible calls against us, but they also screwed over the Rams pretty well early on.

Not only that, but they weren't really responsible for Danny Amendola becoming a HOF'er for a day or the duo of Steven Jackson and the other back making our defense look like Swiss cheese ALL DAY LONG. They weren't the ones unprepared for Sam Bradford's mobility and using a panic strategy of "soft zones all day" when Bradford gained some first downs.

The Rams coaches apparently said something to the effect that they had an answer for everything our defense could throw at them. They did. Who knew Brian Schottenheimer would be the one to get Jim Haslett exposed in a manner similar to how Dick Lebeau exposed Jim Zorn.

There's really no point in continuing to cry about yesterday's events. Just my opinion. There were lots of ways to win this game, despite the refereeing. We just couldn't get it done.

I'm going to post them as I see them. That is what we do as fans. As fans, do we stand by and say nothing? If the league hears from the fans, they will react in some way. If we do nothing, then the status quo will remain.

I wasn't directing that at you personally BB - but if you look around the web, all you hear is Redskins fans crying. I don't see RG3 whining and bitching, although he could. Redskins fans should try and follow his example, that's all.

Refs already starting to lose control of the Falcons-Broncos game...

This was part of the larger point I was trying to make - words posted on a forum are hard to guage sometimes. :)

It is getting to the point where serious injuries could occur or a career ending injury may happen. It needs to be dealt with tomorrow - first thing. Otherwise, it will be open season on stars, franchise players, and key personnel.

Too, it is not lost on me that the son of Gregg Williams is a coach for the Rams.

Refs just blow an obvious TD catch....man, this is just awful.

PFT has a scathing report on tonight's game about the first quarter itself. At this rate, the game will be over by the morning rush hour.

Tweet of the night :)

Blogging the bEast @Jimmy_Beast

"We're going to review the last play. The ball touched the ground before the guy tried to return it. We're not sure if you can do that."
