I am taking my journeyman electrical test on saturday for the union. The head union guy says I am a shoe in, but I have still been stressing over it. I had my master license in SC before I moved but of course it does nothing up here for me. The good news is if/when I pass it I will get a $7 an hour raise.

I love calling people out on their bs at work, especially in front of other people.

People love to just bullshit their ways through life, especially work. It almost seems like an epidemic. The look on their face when they realize they've been called is priceless.

Time to share this news. For the last month, I have been working a part time job with the medical group that provides me with care. Start off the morning with the usual PT, then work for a few hours (just light stuff - administrative) and after work it is time for a little more PT. Makes for a long day, but I am absolutely loving it.

Took a while to get it approved, but it seems to help my frame of mind (former workaholic) and body. Six days a week for now (about two hours less on Saturday). It's about a one mile drive to this office and while it is not strenuous or taxing, the work is making me look forward to each day with a little more enthusiasm.

If something should change (physically), hours will be adjusted or eliminated for a period of time as needed.

This is why you have seen less of BB during the last month. The blog will not be neglected and the mock drafts will continue.

Awesome news buddy. Being caged when you're used to being go go go would get maddening. I'm glad to hear you're getting to do more, it helps mentally too I'm sure. Hoping you get to enjoy this for a long time

Well, another 45 hours from Monday am to now...last week was 47 in that time frame. Spring market is hot in Baltimore Real Estate.

Boss just signed an $8 million home, I am stoked! Can't wait to photograph that thing!

Boss sent someone from his business IT dept tp hook up video cams with audio all over his yacht, presumably so he can watch and listen to us all the time from his ipad. Haha we get our wifi from the marina and they refuse to allow that kind of traffic, ports to be opened, etc... FAIL.

Here I am, finishing up last week's work load before next week's comes...which is a photo shoot over an hour away tonight at 5pm. GREAT! The area we cover now extends another hour west of us...

Not a great sign that I'm halfway through vacation, and started thinking about work today, only to realize I was thinking about finding another job. Hmmm...

Ha! Perhaps it also had something to do with a panicked phone call from my team about something over which I had no control and could do nothing to help?

I'll be fine. 95% of the time I enjoy what I do. But it has been good to get away.

as business grows and we get more clients, i become more involved with more companies and see inner workings more.

i continue to be amazed at the sheer number of adults, in a professional work environment, behaving like children with their defensiveness, passive aggressiveness, finger pointing, gossip/slander, etc.

wtf is wrong with people? how do you behave like this?!

good grief.

and the worst part? the enablers... the people that allow this to go on, unchallenged. it only encourages these people to act like this. call someone out when you see them finger pointing, or otherwise acting like a child. it's not hard. it hurts peoples feelings, but **** people that act like that.

It never fails to amaze me how a Masshole can introduce themselves into an interesting conversation and completely **** it up with narcissism and pettiness. Like the proverbial scorpion to the frog, they just can't help themselves.

Well, averaging around 70-80 hours a week right now. So what do I do today after I was done work? I decided to get my flower garden done, that's what! Had the boy with me from noon til I finished up around 6:30. He was mimicking me the whole time, getting in the way. I started to get frustrated with him because he kept getting in the way...then I realized, he just wanted to be with his daddy!

I miss manual labor at times, but my back doesn't! UGH!

it should be a requirement that every office have a rage room. a square room with concrete walls/floors, regularly stocked with fragile items. safety glasses should be available near the entrance.

that way when you get really, really angry you can go in there and just smash stuff without any actual consequence.

So, I am part of the marketing department...when I went in the office to do some work in the new marketing office, I was told I do not have a space in that office, I am banished to a cubicle with no sunlight.

Hmm...

There's this weird culture in our country where people get put in management/director positions and have never actually done the job of the people they're now in charge of leading, managing, etc.

Especially in IT... there are IT directors out there that moved from Finance (that's a common move for some reason - CFO to CIO/CTO), and have never deployed a server. Don't know what a switch is. Have never made a network cable. Yet they're responsible for an incredibly important department.

Security, reliability, costs... Making the wrong decisions (or lack of making decisions) could cost your company tons of money, or jobs (security breach and a gov't contractor? you may lose your contracts...).

Yet boards/CEO's have no problem putting these people in this position. They have no ability to determine their own employee's skill sets and knowledge. They can't actually hire/fire anyone with any just cause (related to the actual position) because they themselves have no idea what is involved or needed, or what is acceptable or not.

When it comes to evaluating employees, or potential employees, it starts and stops a behavioral questions and interviews.

Tell me about a time were someone did something at work you didn't like and how you handled it.

How about I tell you about the time someone completely jacked up their server by restarting it mid-DC promotion, with no backups, and I spent 3 hours saving their ass and everything came out perfect?

Oh. You already have no idea what I'm talking about? Yeah, well I told that guy to stop talking to me like that and that solved the problem. Does that now qualify me to work as a Sys admin in your department?

And for some reason, when I bring all this up, people just stare at me like I'm an alien. Like it's some sort of foreign and obscure notion that the people put in charge of departments actually understand what it is the department is doing, how, and why; or be able to pick up a project from someone and see it through.

And the people that make those decisions - well, they get whatever is coming to them for it. You put some finance person in charge of IT? You deserve your data breach, loss of data, etc.

I don't even know how people feel comfortable accepting those roles. I'd never feel comfortable being a CFO - good lord I'd be in so far over my head just hoping things somehow function on their own forever...
