The Work Thread

the marketing director of the brewery I used to work at just wrote up one of his guys....actually wrote him up for not getting his permission before putting a go-pro on the roof and documenting the fire coming towards and eventually past the bldg.

that video ended up on every local news channel, huff post, reddit, and almost every social media site you can think of. people loved it...but he got wrote up for not getting permission.

idiots.

Yeah - that sucks...been in similar trouble. That's why businesses fail these days so often - they squelch initiative and value 'compliance'.

I am just grateful that I am given the tools to succeed in my company and the freedom to make it work.

Last year a friend was trying to get someone in touch with me to be a go to in case I had over flow. He ends up sending me a Facebook request. When the hair on my neck stands up, I almost always listen to my inner voice, but I trusted my friend enough to give this guy a shot, an experienced shooter is always nice to have in my back pocket. We started discussing the typical stuff, tools and methods.

A week later, one of the agents at the firm came to me and asked if I knew some guy named so and so. Turns out...the mother****er tried to back door his way into my job telling them he could do better and that my work was sub-par. They laughed at him! Instead of getting into a pissing match, I just blocked him on FB and moved on. I wanted to crush him!

So this morning my boss tells me that a colleague of his is using a photographer that "was my teacher". I called my "teacher" up to see what was going on. Turns out the jackass from last year used to work for my friend/teacher. He was fired for being a douche bag. This guy is a competitor and is telling people he was my teacher.

HULK SMASH!!!

Neighbors are having some trees cut down, making it IMPOSSIBLE for me to make any phone calls. Really irritating. I'm sure my boss will be fine with that excuse too...

My week just got better. My boss just called and essentially gave me a 15-20k raise. Lots of new territory and expectations to go with it. Excited and nervous.

Nice!

your buying the beer this week...

The company I work for called me off the books as a foreman Friday! This is great news because it is a big pay raise! My work load doesn't really change.

"A drone for photography"? Is that what they're calling them these days?

Haha! Yeah, for the Virtual Tours. We currently pay for aerial photography. I can do aerial video with them and eliminate the cost of the aerials.

Have you ever flown a drone?

Have you ever flown a drone?

I had remote control cars as a kid and young adult, have worked with many. This drone has a GPS stabilizing system that keeps the drone idle, in position in the air, when the controls are not being used. I am conifdent I can handle it, especially since there is an insurance policy involved. We are likely going to have one by the end of the month.

cool..not trying to say you couldn't I just know those helicopters are a bitch to control.

You'll put your eye out.

I was an RC car buff too E, had some Tamiya stuff and my Optima was my prize. Still have it...chain driven!

My boys are just about old enough for "quality" RC stuff so another case of Dad getting to play kid again...I'm a Lego nut too.

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure flying a drone is juuuuuuuuuuuuust slightly different than driving an RC car.

Not this new one Mike. The GPS stabilization makes it so easy since it will maintain position if you let off controls. Yes, there will be a learning curve, that's what insurance is for. ;)

just dont cry like a chooch when you wreck it!!

to my photog friends...is it normal for a session (my wedding) to take a month to get the pictures back?
