The Work Thread

So this job has been very, very, meh from the getgo. I've been trying to figure out what's next for a while now and strategically planted seeds of doubt with one the owners yesterday. I got a 25% raise today and a nice Christmas bonus from the 2nd cheapest people I have ever worked for. I'm still looking for a new job, I'm just doing it with a smile! Merry Christmas yall and lets make 2014 your bitch!

I was hoping for pics of you on the yacht with a bunch of scantily clad hotties! We all know that's what you do!

So things are starting to finally pick up on the job hunt. Many new interviews, some more desirable than others, but the future is brighter for sure!

Getting my mojo dialed in for another chance to shine and show someone why they will want to work with me. Through Gods grace, they will see. Blessed for these opportunities. 2nd and 3rd interviews set for one I would love to get, though a good friend is my main competition for it. 2nd interview scheduled for a contract role that will buy some time financially.

I admire your confidence. It'll pay off for you in the long run.

Good luck :)

2 of us did ~250k worth of business last year - well, billable business. Somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of what I do isn't even billable...

not half bad. can't wait to see what kind of numbers we pull in this year.

and since I didn't get into GA Tech (boo :( ) I'm now fully committed to my current career so it's going to be interesting to see how my role expands and what kind of training/education opportunities come up this year.

Need to bitch. Can't do it at work, soooo....

I hate two things. (actually many more than two, but you gotta start somewhere)

1) I am designing a book for a client, and she keeps sending me changes. That part is fine, part of the job. What sucks is that she keeps changing the parameters and adding things that she never gave me originally. It's kinda hard to get the layout of something right if you haven't given me everything you want included. Just let me know when I have it all, and THEN tell me I can start. But no. Go ahead and send it piecemeal and I'll start and stop and start and stop for the next week. It's fine. I have nothing else to do.

2) a good friend of mine just got a lot more territory. Happy for him. Buttttt.... I am doing MUCH better than he is, have been asking for more territory for a while, and am outperforming him in every conceivable measure. Frustrated that he essentially just got the $20k raise I have been working my ass off and asking for for a while. Sigh.

After doing nearly 300 million in volume last year, my employer has decided to leave the company he'd been with for 5 years and go with another. The former agency is bucking the whole way and trying to pry agents away from him. They are holding on to contracts and generally being a pain. I guess I would be a little upset if I lost the top producer in the area who just made the company millions.

The new company? Ha! They have rolled out the red carpet!

The guys I work with had this problem for a long time... I finally got them to figure it out. It worked for us, have no idea if it'll work for you...

It's called a scope increase. Scope increases cost money. Want to make a change? Fine - it'll cost a little more.

You have to incentivise putting in the work up front to make the right decisions and deincentivise the idea of making changes later. There are lots of ways to go about it, but from my experience hitting people in the wallet is the most effective way to do it :)

It's a great way to do things, but since we don't charge for anything...

I can work around it with bonuses and stuff like that, it's just irritating.

Interview today went great! Down side is that its down to 2 of us...my good friend and me. He's an excellent candidate, won't be surprised if they go with him. We each have strengths in different aspects of the role. A good thing for me though is that I live close by and he is an hour away. Praying hard but with a somewhat heavy heart

so they did new pictures of us for the new website that's being rolled up, and we're all updating our linked in and other digital profiles since it's part of our marketing/branding strategy.

i don't photograph well

though maybe the real issue is that i'm just ugly.
