The 'W' - Hot or Not?

Although some may be annoyed by it, it's hard to deny that there is a lot of energy and discussion around the idea that the team may make changes to what we've experienced so far with the Commander's 'brand'. One of the most significant unknowns is whether the 'W' is here to stay as the logo.

What say you?

Is the 'W' hot? Or not? And should the team keep the 'W' logo?

Just like everything with Dan's brand...lazy, bland, unimaginative, and something basically nobody wanted.

I'm hoping the Campbell's Soup guy gets something figured out.

I think the W is fine, and voted accordingly, but adding a feather would be great.

If we’re sticking with the W, I’d really like to see it tweaked and enhanced a bit. A border or something that pops. The current plain stencil look to me is just unfinished and kinda cheap looking.

I dont necessarily mean changing the basis of it, just getting a little creative with it.

I would like to see some variations that have a main color with an outline. Burgundy main color with a gold outline. Black Camo base with a Burgundy or Gold outline. Red Camo with a Gold Outline.

I have some renderings on my computer at home i can share when i get home from work (if i remember).

I have said from the beginning that the W logo to me is the best part of the rebrand. If you compare it to other logos in the NFL of a similar ilk it fits right in…I dare say it looks better than Green Bay and Chicago. What it doesn’t have yet is nostalgia attached or a deep connection to the fans. How could it?

I went with don’t change it, but if they did enhance it slightly I wouldn’t mind.

Add something that calls back to the old name, maybe a mini 'R' that pins a pair of feathers to the top corner of the 'W'

I understand that Commanders doesn't really relate to Redskins in any way.... but everyone knows how we got here, just do something that is clearly a call back to the old name, giving everyone free license to reference their former brand without some kind of faux shame.

They are not going to make any changes connected to the old brand, imo. I would be shocked, shocked I tell you. They have clearly put that in the rearview. I hope that they, at a minimum, give a nod to the players that they celebrate from the Redskins era by not erasing or ignoring that history.

I, for one, do not feel any need or pressure to pay any faux shame tax for referencing the Skins or Redskins when referring to my team. I doubt many fans from the previous period do either.

The return of the Redskins name and logo will only happen one way. It becomes 'IN DEMAND' by the public. Therefore, not one bit of effort will be put into trying to bring it back. At least not by this ownership group. Always answer with the HINT that you would be willing to listen to options, but that it is not on the board of priorities. Let the public and your fan base, as we get closer to the new stadium, be the spear (ha ha) to either make this happen or let it die. Unnecessary money spent and social collateral (apparently a thing now) wasted with out some form of traction is useless. Its the long game or no game. To sum it up, pick your battles. One thing. They will always speak of the Redskins name and logo in highest, respected form so that eventually, if things work in that favor, the public finally says....just bring it back.

I don’t think that they give a wit about what the public thinks or wants. By this point they have heard as much pushback as they ever will and have moved forward in their desired (or league mandated) direction. I can’t imagine any scenario that will cause them to reverse course.

I'm with Chris in the sense that I think Redskins is gone and there's no going back at this point. Whether we agree, or not, with the idea that it's offensive, it's the simple fact that it would re-open the window for someone to go after the team for it that has pretty much guaranteed that there is no going back.

I do think they 'care' about what the fans want... to an extent... though.

I’m more likely to buy something with just the W than with commanders on it. Some of the shirts Quinn wore on the sideline this past season are things I’d buy and wear. But I agree it’s unimaginable and needs some type of enhancement. A feather would be awesome, but anything to spice it up would be an improvement.

I can't stand the commanders name and the 'W' is just lazy and uninspired.

I only refer to the team as 'Washington' here and 'Redskins' among my brothers, friends and associates.

I only really like one logo, and it's my avatar.

I do think that they care about what the public/fans want in theory but not in any serious, practical application regarding the name or the ‘branding’. (So perhaps I slightly overplayed that hand.) Point being, they are now the Commanders and no amount of ‘discussion’ about that by the public is going to change that reality. There will be no feathers or any other thing reflective of the past branding incorporated in any meaningful way into the current branding. There just won’t. Any time and energy invested into hoping for such will only lead to continued disappointment.
