The Three Good Things Thread

I was able to give my team 2 surprise days off. They are contractors out of Mumbai and used to being treated like second hand citizens. I have tomorrow and NYE off so I said this morning "are you all working tomorrow?" and got grumbles and finally a few "yeah". I told them "not anymore. tomorrow you are with your families. You will clock in when you come back like normal and mark these hours as worked". They were SO appreciative.

My family is home and warm. It is currently snowing so hard I can barely see the road from my front door. The smell of food is in the air, the fire is going, fire is lit, and music is playing.

I love BGO. The new changes has made this more of a brotherhood than it ever was before. People are now vested in it and we are all here for the same reason even more than before.

converting the downstairs bar in to a theater/bar so it is more kid friendly and we basically have a place to hang out in winter.

kids are going back to school on Monday. Home schooling has been hard on us, but its been even harder on the kids. You just assume they are OK because you are, but the lack of socializing with their friends and leaving the home really takes a toll.

wife and I have both started a new exercise routine. We use the iFit daily and are getting a row machine for the basement. Best part for me is, my son wants to work out with me. Twice a week I let him pick up the 5lb weights and I am teaching him the proper techniques to doing curls, shoulder presses, situps, and pushups. That kid is freaking strong. He is fully defined in his muscles, and little snot even has a 6 pack! Just crazy how much he excels when he puts his mind to something.

Woke up early, early this morning, mostly because I 'over-did' it yesterday and am experiencing a lot of pain this morning as a result. But I am thankful for a lot of things.

1) Thankful for my wonderful family and friends who, inexplicably, care about me and have continually checked on me after a recent surgery.

2) Although it is hard going through a major surgery, it always makes me appreciate that no matter what one is going through, there are countless others who have been faced with bigger challenges. I think specifically of a Marine I served with who unlike me, made a career out of it, only to experience hitting an IED in Iraq and losing both his legs. His incredible attitude and joy in life is amazing.

3) My wife is always, always there for me, in 1000 different ways every day. The most selfless partner any man could ask for. I never take her for granted, but in times when I need some help, I know I can count on her. I'm so lucky to have her.

Today is a gorgous sunny, albeit still a bit brisk, day in NC and it's good to be alive.
I am starting to feel great after my recent spine surgery, no pain, and will be off all post-op meds after next week.
Friday, am heading up to NOVA to see our granddaughter who is the happiest human being on earth.

It is going to be 65 degrees out today. Its already 45 which makes it officially hoodie weather.

There is no snow on the ground and it is starting to dry. This has me staring at my garden getting SO excited.

With the stimulus check coming I get to get a 12x12 wrestling mat for our new gym in the basement.

Got to have my son with us from culinary school for his spring break.

Same son made white chocolate dipped ginger cookies with a hint of lemon. OMG

About 3 weeks ago it was -30’s even before factoring in wind chill. Today it’ll be 50* and gorgeous sunny skies

Sitting with my wife planning this year's garden. Now that we have one successful season under our belts we are excited to do more.

My boys play sports. Oldest is in football and baseball, youngest in soccer. Even 2 months out of the oldest winning state people STILL come up to us both and will be like "I heard he won state. That is huge! Congrats!" I am over it...but, this community is so nice people still want to hear stories.

Got 2 cords of wood delivered. My goal is to smell like a firepit for at least 75% of the summer!

1. Velocicoaster at Islands of Adventure is worth all the HYPE!! I've been on over 100 coasters and while it's not the tallest or fastest it's just flat out non stop intense, great theming as well. The park website says it opens June 10th, it's operating in full already they just haven't done the huge ground opening until the mask mandate expires for Orange county, luckily you only wear them in line and on the rides (which sucks but hey, I'll take it for now).
2. Hagrids motorbike ride - it's just fun, definitely a more family type coaster but intense enough to enjoy for some thrill seekers
3. First time I've been back to the Universal parks since 2013, a lot has changed, still a great time for both parks, plus you can get Duff beer in the Simpsons area.
4. Me and Miss SO have enjoyed the resort we're staying at even though we live 25 minutes away, staycations can be a great thing as Florida residents get discounts at hotel's almost statewide, once they legalize craps, Hard Rock Casino Lauderdale wooot papa's gonna win him some new shoes, or lose money but be drunk.
5. Hope everyone is planning some fun outings soon, with all the "things" that have happened over past 15 or so months, it feels so good to get away from that concept we call "reality".

Did the new coaster replace Dueling Dragons or is it in addition?

Velocicoaster is a new addition, Hagrids motorbike replaced dueling dragons.

They also completely re-tracked the Hulk, same layout but more forceful on the helix's now

The negative G's in the helix's now just suck your body back like a vacuum, almost no one can yell lol and hands ups, good luck they're getting thrown back quick.

Do you ever GoPro your coaster rides? I’ve always liked watching those clips of fast coasters

No I have not, a lot of parks won't allow it and I'm not trying to get thrown out lol. The Sea World (Busch Gardens) parks are cool with it but most are not. Due to covid there's also no front line row wait, you get seated where you get seated so a POV from the middle would suck. Also especially for universal, everything goes in a locker before the ride and they are firm about it. Luckily the lockers are free unlike Sea World parks where you pay for the day and can switch lockers through out. Next on me and Mrs. SO's list will be Hershey Park, next spring, she's never been and I haven't been in over 25 years. We'll probably due Busch Gardens Tampa in the fall once Iron Gwazi is open.

Do they still offer the fast pass to resort properties?

1. Youngest kid and only daughter graduated high school today, now all 3 will be in college

2. All my kids as well as great friends from Idaho & Wyoming are staying with us to celebrate it. Completely blessed with a many bedroom house on a lake to just love every second of it.

3. Turns out both women from the visiting families are OUTSTANDING cooks. Been gorging like a muhfuh on great food and getting fat while doing so

Given some real-life challenges many are facing, thought it was a good time to re-energize this one.

1) Despite a number of my loved ones working in healthcare, we are healthy and (knock on wood) COVID free.
2) My son graduated with a Masters in computer programming, has moved to Raleigh with his girlfriend, and is job hunting.
3) My daughter, after less than a year with large financial consulting firm, was just name VP of Communications - something she managed while being a new mom with a toddler.

I am lucky to have so many great things going on in my life and in my loved one's lives.

I survived a bout w/ the China Flu.

My wife survived a bout with it.

All 3 kids not only survived, they were unfazed by it.

We are all excited to experience the announcement of draft selections IN REAL TIME TOGETHER.
