I’ve kinda given up on it being open air. A dome is coming. But please keep it natural grass.

I'll confess, I don't really understand what a stadium and 'housing' have to do with one another?

I wouldn't think living near a stadium, with the traffic issues it would entail, having thousands of strangers traipsing around multiple times a week, the noise... would be especially appealing. I just don't get why someone paying billions to build a stadium also has to build 'affordable housing' and what those two things have to do with each other. It seems like a fairly lame attempt to show that 'good' will come to the community from the stadium. The 'good' that comes to the community when a stadium is built is money. Revenues and associated benefits to local businesses is the real motivator for cities to host an NFL stadium. The 'housing' stuff is just political fluff imho, as is the idea of keeping a 'low' profile.

It's a stadium. It's going to be huge. Frankly, I would want that stadium to be seen for miles, and like RFK to become the latest in iconic DC landmarks. The idea that you're going to blend in a gigantic sports venue 'into the surrounding community' - it's absurd.

Maybe the entire stadium should be built underground so there's room for more affordable housing on top of it :)

The only endangered species around this area that I know of is the all but extinct honest politician.

The Commanders’ deal with D.C. requires an agreement by July 15. If that date passes, the Commanders could start negotiating again with Maryland or Virginia.

Mayor Muriel Bowser recently said a delay by the D.C. Council could jeopardize the deal.

The DC council if they stop this will be the laughing stock of the nation. The money they will have to invest in any improvements on the property would cost at least that much or more and never bring in anything close to what the NFL and the stadium will. Hell ONE SUPER BOWL would give the city enough tax revenue to pay for the entire investment
Also would the NFL cancel the DRAFT in DC if they did not approve this ?

You answered your own question- political fluff. Affordable housing is a sweetener to get the deal passed. DC is a city permanently in state of distress. Such a large expenditure is going to make anyone take pause.

The NFL and MLB are 104 and 146 years old, respectively. Teams have moved around many times (Washington is eyeing their 6th stadium if you count their two homes in Boston). At this point in time, we have lots of accounts of teams seeking new venues. Whatever the facts and reality were, many are depicted in David & Goliath terms. Dodger Stadium and Yankee Stadium would be two examples.

And as the late JKC found out, neither the DC govt nor the local population is as pliant at they both were in 1960.

Which is why Harris & Co are including the sweeteners like affordable housing.

As for JKC/DC, I can see both sides. JKC was offering to pay the tab for a stadium that was to continue housing a then impressive franchise. But he also wanted to use part of the Langston golf course. He was a man used to getting his own way and was quite old at that point. Probably could not understand why DC was not showering him with praise.

Mayor Kelley and the DC government behaved like ... the DC government.

Not a match made in heaven.
