WP poll shows 55% of DC residents are in favor of using public tax dollars for a stadium at the RFK site and 39% oppose.

There’s too much tail wind here. The details might get adjusted, but the stadium is happening.

Yeah, it's weird that the percentage against is even that high. It's not like DC is being asked to pay for the stadium or for even a quarter of the stadium costs. They're gonna invest in infrastructure that they'd need to pay for anyway, regardless of what development emerged on that unused eyesore of a site. Harris and the ownership group are doing all the right things by the District.

I think for some people, it’s not about the money. It’s about the use. They just don’t want a stadium there. They’d rather have just housing and parks etc.

Also just urban planning and use of space though, right? You could have a huge park and more housing right there in the anacostia river. It’s not like there is a ton of space in DC for expansion

I’m saying it makes no economic sense to replace an enormous cash flowing revenue stream with a much lesser asset vehicle with immensely larger liabilities.

Many of them probably are ill informed too. They hear people like that Nadeau woman, or fieldofscams.com telling a partial narrative to get people angry. But I think this is a good deal for the city—where these types of projects have been successful before

I think I read that retractable has gone out of fashion because it's more expensive and the mechanisms break down, but personally I like the idea of being in the wind and the elements.

“We are paying what we would have to no matter what was going to that plot of land. We need to remove RFK, improve the infrastructure, and develop the land. Of a stadium wasn’t going there, we would have to do the same thing.

The benefit is the Commanders are putting up $2.5 billion to build a huge economic engine that we wouldn’t have had otherwise, and we would still have to spend the same amount of money.

So suck on that. “

They've had years to push for something other than a stadium on that site. If the stadium didn't happen that land would still be nothing more than a deserted, crumbling stadium 20 years front now.

Oh, I'm sure they will have a dome from what I read it probably won't be retractable (though that would be my preference.)
