Let's start this off with Old Bay seasoned Goldfish.

Several years ago, my wife, who is not a big snack person, told me she once tried Old Bay Goldfish and it quickly became her favorite snack - for road trips and such. So, with her birthday approaching, I looked and looked and couldn't find them anywhere, and realized they were a limited edition.

I did finally find them last spring, and she's right. Each cracker tastes like it has a piece of fresh crab meat in it!

But then they sold out again and were gone.

Now, they're back!

Right now, they are on sale at Giant. But they're not advertised. You have to just see them when you're in the store. When you see them, they won't likely be in the regular Goldfish aisle - they will have their own dedicated stand at the end of some random aisle. And the sign will indicate that they are fifty cents off, which means the price is down from $3.49 to $2.99 per bag. A reasonable deal.

However, they've cleverly downsized the bag. In previous years, the bag was 6.6 ounces. Now it's 6.1 oz.

I'm against it.

Nonetheless, I bought some. But when I later looked at the receipt, they gave me an extra dollar off, so the price I paid was only $1.99! No explanation for this.

The 6.1 oz bag is worth at least $1.99.

The best by date is September, 2025.

So I suggest you run to your nearest Giant. Now. This morning. Before they sell out.

Good luck.

Edit: Another Giant I went to had them clearly marked at $1.99 provided you buy 3+.

Edit x2: Good sale's over, you missed it. They're still on sale for $2.99 though.

Shrinkflation is real and has been happening across the board for years.

Yep. And another form of hidden shrinkflation can be found in the ingredients, where they 'water down' the important ingredients and add more fillers.
And then they literally shrink the print of the ingredients label, so virtually noone has the eyesight to be able to read and decipher the shrinkflation in the inredients

I bought a quart of milk yesterday for 8.99 and it was only 473ml. Same with eggs, a dozen for 11.99 and they were tiny. LOL 🤣🤣🤣

I’m probably going to get voted off the island but I can’t stand old bay seasoning on literally anything.

My favorite snack Which I have to have in small quantities is Utz sour cream and onion potato chips.

I’m not sure if it counts but I love a good charcuterie board….

The thing about Old Bay is - whatever you put it on is going to smell and taste like Old Bay. It's got a dominating profile. I love Old Bay on crabs but that's really about the only thing I like it on. As for snacks - I like just about anything that's pickled or salty, love cheeses as well.

I love Old Bay!! As far as snacking......I prefer savory. Put a candy bar and a bag of chips on the table and ask me to pick one and it'll be the chips 99.99% of the time.....that said Mark The Homer post about Old Bay Goldfish at Giant has triggered me to take a ride to Giant...that...and the $10.00 coupon for a $50.00 purchase and a $10.00 off a purchase of $20.00 or more at the Ace Hardware next to the Giant helps!

They didn't have the Old Bay Goldfish...so now I'm on a mission! I still used the coupons at Ace & Giant, (picked up some post oak chunks at Ace)
To keep this OT, I just received my shipment of salsa. It's only available in Texas, but the owner is a buddy and is kind enough to ship it when I'm out.
He grows most of peppers and he makes does everything by hand in his kitchen. The company is starting to grow and now it's on some grocery store shelves in Texas.
I'm not sure how he does it, (it looks kinda watery), but the salsa sticks to the chips and has a fantastic, smokey flavor with good heat. It is my favorite.
His brother makes a killer brisket rub too.

I find that Old Bay goes great on 4 things. And nothing else. Only these 4 things :

1) ALL things seafood. Literally any seafood.

2) Popcorn

3) Scrambled Eggs

4) Peanuts

I find Old Bay goes into the pantry and somebody else can put it on anything and I'll use something else. :p

I'm mostly use Old Bay just for shrimp. Don't get me wrong I love it. But I prefer the local crab seasoning when I buy them. I used to put it on chicken but now I just use salt pepper tons of oregano and lots of lemon. Tastes change over time

I like my steamed shrimp with just salt and copious amounts of butter. Can’t have enough butter. If I’m feeling adventurous, I’ll do a garlic butter.

Everything else is just a distraction.

Every once in awhile an intriguing recipe pops up on social media. Giving these ‘pickles’ a try…

I also made some pickled shrimp (which is exactly what it sounds like). A lb of shelled deveined shrimp simmered until done in a sugar/salt/spice bath and poured over sliced onions. Will let it sit in the fridge for a day before trying...

Yeah there seems to be something going on recently with pickled this and picked that. Kenji did a vid recently on pickled items at Popeye's. He says it's the best fast food he's ever had. I'm not usually a fast food person, but I might have to check it out... v=yWgYa8U4RS8&ab_channel=J.KenjiLópez-Main

There was a stretch a few years ago when I was making a lot of kimchi where I experimented with doing a lot of fermented foods. One of my favorites was putting whole green beans in brine with garlic cloves and some red pepper flakes. Super easy to do and they were so addictive. Did another version of them with garlic and fresh dill also very good.

That's a classic combination, especially if you add some gently simmered weisswurst and a sweet spicy mustard. They sell Weisswurst at Boarman's. I have some in my freezer along with Bavarian mustard I found on amazon.

Weisswurst and mustard with a pretzel is a Bavarian treat - a snack usually enjoyed mid-day.

I get this mustard on Amazon which goes perfectly with the Weisswurst.

Except mine was $12 and the jar was completely in German language.

Here's how you do it.
