The Sky Has Really, Really Fallen Thread

I’ll admit I expected JJ to be good, so far that looks like a bad call, he has not stayed healthy or played well at all.

On the other hand, the people who thought Drake Maye was a better pick than JD5 are looking a lot smarter right now.
Drake Maye is definitely on a much better TEAM than JD5. That is FOR SURE. Defense is tough, great, offensive playcalling has healthy mix of run/pass, keeps defenses guessing bigtime, great success running the ball.

The team around Maye is much, MUCH better than what is around JD5 right now. Maye is playing well, too - sure - but wow, it is so much easier to do so with that kind of support. Those are just facts.

And, they also have a favorable schedule this season.

New England has, by far, the easiest strength of schedule in the league so far- .356 through 12 games.

Next easiest is Denver @ .441 through 11 games.

Only 9 teams in the league have a higher SOS than Washington @ .516, compared to NE where 31 teams have a higher SOS.

True, the Patriots usually have a favorable schedule since they play the Dolphins and Jets twice every year. Of course we also benefited from a soft schedule last year.

The supporting cast is part of the story too, as SkinsNumberOne said—and of course injuries. Contrary to a common opinion about quarterback being the only position that matters, this is a team sport, and circumstances can make all the difference in a quarterback’s success.

With Jayden being out for a good portion of this season so far, plus the bye week, it has given me some extra time to look around at some of the teams other young QB's are on and it is just uncanny how in a lot of cases those QB's are currently being asked to do a lot less in order for their teams to get wins. Breaking down entire roster comparisons would be too pedantic but overall I am seeing teams that have multiple avenues to win games and if the young QB performs well it is a bonus, a cherry on top.

Yes, Washington hd a soft schedule a year ago with a season ending SOS of .436. (Still much higher than NE’s .356)

In addition to the NYJ and Miami, NE has played Las Vegas, New Orleans, Tennessee, Cleveland, and Cincinnati so far this season with the NYG, NYJ, and Miami still to play. That might very well turn out to be a historically easy schedule.

I still can't believe how my attitude is completely different than it was in September. I was one of the first to call out AP's draft picks, and took a lot of grief for it. But all those picks needed to be performing now and keys to the rebuild and so far that 2023 class, other than the softball that was picking a QB, have simply not produced. That is killing them this season and more concerning it wil really hurt the future. I thought we were set, Jayden had proven that he can almost by himself carry this team to wins. Now with 4 injuries in 2 seasons, and this season is not over, I just can't say we are set now.

JD needs to stay healthy and AP needs to improve his player selection or we are doomed.

My sentiments exactly. Hopefully we are just being cynical and the team returns to form next season.

I know not everyone feels this way, but it would be encouraging if we saw some proof of life this year.

It is frustrating that our former players our succeeding elsewhere, especially at areas of need.
Let's be honest, it's one player, over a year after we let him go, who was awful until the last few weeks. The over-reaction to Forbes is really annoying--it's like people lamenting Mitch Tinsley because he caught TD last week. He has 5 catches on the year. People see highlights and spaz out, probably because they listen to Fat and Not Funny on 106.7 and parrot everything those two clowns say.

The truth is the Rams have a much better defense across the board and Forbes size at 167 and issues in tackling and run support can be covered to a degree by their scheme.

In reality Sean McVay is doing what Washington should have done - find trash bin players that don't fit other teams' schemes and find a way to craft a niche for them in LA.

It doesn't mean the player is going to be elite or a perennial pro bowler, but you get a guy on a cheap rookie deal for 2 years.

And the opportunity to pick up a compensation draft pick if he leaves and is signed as a free agent.

Kam Curl has been awesome for them. Who knows if this FO tried to keep him? He would’ve given us at least one legitimate plus starter in the defensive backfield

BSJ has been used well in LAC and has played much better there than here. He is the more disappointing one for me in some ways because he is the type of corner they want in their scheme

BSJ is their 4th corner. Playing slightly more snaps than Jordan Magee, about 20 a game. No one was crying about Kam Curl last--on top of that, he's a strong safety. Will Harris is hurt, and we have him another year, and that position has hardly been a problem here.

People act like these are all pros. They're not moving the needle.
