The Race to Black Monday

Giants are retaining GM Joe Schoen.
Not sure how I feel about this. I assume Dart is a big reason why. Letting Barkley get to the Eagles was a huge problem, but it's a little unclear how that could have been avoided. I think there were better paths there, but it was at least complex. Giving the Eagles that SB though... man.

Overall I probably feel good, but he has made a couple of good picks there.

I think whether or not a GM is retained goes far beyond whether his draft picks pan out (although obviously that is an assessment point). Does the owner click with him? Does the owner have strong personal belief in the guy? Does the GM appear to have a viable, solid plan? Is he a good communicator and has he hired the right kind of people to surround himself with? I'm sure it's a complex set of factors a good owner looks at.

There's also the fact that, firing and then hiring a new GM - that's truly blowing the whole thing over and starting from scratch. I don't think most owners want to do that unless they are absolutely convinced the current GM can not right the ship.

Ross and Haslam are football dumb. The latter meddles too much, so it's hard to judge Stefanski. He might fit well in ATL. There needs to be more clarity on the hierarchy in Tennessee.

I feel bad for Carroll. Great coach, bad situation.

Anybody who wins Coach of the Year TWICE while coaching the Brownies is probably an excellent choice to grab up quick. I'd dump our current OC in a heartbeat. Hell, he had a top 10 offense twice in Cleveland and his 1 year in Minnesota as OC. He is definitely an upgrade to Kingsberry.

Someone explain this to me like I’m 5 years old. Then please explain how Russini has the job she has.

She did not say a source told her. She just said it is a name to watch for.

Perhaps her next tweet will be “A name to watch for? Mickey Mouse”

I think i need someone to explain it to me too because I'm confused.

To me it seems like she's speculating that Flores could get the coordinator job in Dallas which these beat reporters do all the time.

What did she post that seems outlandish?

Flores wants to be a HC. If that doesn’t happen and he remains a DC he has a better defense in Minny that he developed. Why would he want go to Dallas in a lateral move? Why would he want to work for JJ?

It’s nothing more than clickbait.

I keep hearing that and obviously on paper it makes sense but what doesn't is the fact that he's not under contract.
If he had zero intention of shopping his services as a defensive coordinator then why not sign an extension months ago?

He had absolutely no reason not too because he is still able to take a head coaching job no questions asked.

The fact that he's not under contract and can sign with any team tomorrow as a defensive coordinator has already put us in uncharted waters so to speak as far as coordinators that want to be head coaches or stay where they are is concerned.

It's not crazy to think there's at least a possibility albeit a small one that he may go to the highest bidder, or maybe he wants to turn that dreadful defense around in Dallas to increase his chances of getting a head coaching job down the road, who knows but its not crazy.

Just heard that Harbaugh is out in BAL...

Sealed his fate with the incredibly dumb, conservative, backwards approach at the end of that Pittsburgh game. Loop had made only 3 kicks from that distance all season, yet he had Lamar kneel (backing things up even further). He wasn't out of timeouts, either. Dumb decision.

Pretty shitty how things played out in Miami. They told McDaniel he would be part of the decision-making process for the new GM, then after Harbaugh becomes available, everything changed with a quickness.

Business is business, but yes definitely some bad optics on that front unless McDaniel went into a meeting with demands for next year we are unaware of.

So other than the janitor the building is empty in Tampa

Greg Roman (OC) and Mike Devlin (OL) are out in San Diego. Wonder if Harbaugh will give McDaniel a call.

It's probably time, but that was a heckuva run. Consistently good. Lost his playoff fastball, but Tomlin could make the playoffs in his sleep.
