I take my blood pressure so often now I thought those were your numbers, the screen looks exactly like my blood pressure device.

As my wife and I have gotten older, we too have a BP monitor for home. We're focused on cardio mostly nowadays to help with that.
I learned I have heart disease recently. Now my blood pressure is critical and it causes anxiety when I take my reading. I have no idea how to stop this problem, I'm giving myself high readings, I know this.

Sorry to hear about that and good luck with it.

Are your meds up to date? My wife's doctor just recently changed her meds for the better. Her BP had been riding high a short while back. Her BP's good for now but the doctor suggested some weight in addition to increasing cardio for long term solution.

I added the drug that makes you pee out salt. I've also taken to reading labels, specifically sodium content. And I increased one of my beta blockers. But the numbers are still high about half the time (140/79 or so). So I'll talk to the cardiologist on Tuesday.

I did a stress test this week, I passed the medically induced stress test but I wanted to get on a treadmill to determine if it's safe for me to shovel snow for example. As what happened 20 years ago my pulse rate is low, in the past naturally now due to medication. So I was unable to get my heart rate to where they wanted it before my legs gave out.

Here is a place to discuss physical health concerns and challenges etc for those inclined. As a board we generally lean toward older demographic groups, so discussion of the inevitable aging process can be included here, as well.

Definitely keep an eye on your high BP. A few years ago, I experienced a mild stroke due to my high BP. It was so mild that I didn't even know I had it until the doctor was performing a CT scan on my head for something else and they noticed I had that mild stroke in the past. They blamed it on my high BP. A few years ago I was having trouble remembering my golf score each hole so maybe that's when I had that minor one.

Stay away from the wet snow as those are the widow makers and maybe buy a snow thrower if you can. Good luck with your journey.

Thanks, Chris, for opening this thread.

Yeah as I said my BP is high half the time which is causing stress and a self fulfilling prophecy as that lead to higher readings. How high was yours? The good news is my widow maker artery is clear.

I absolutely suffer from ‘white coat syndrome’, where having my BP taken in a doctor’s office returns crazy results. Probably goes hand in hand with lifetime test anxiety. My long time MD has me test at home and print out the results for my visits. Testing at home returns solidly good results but I do have to use the ‘5 minute rule’ for that. Results in a docs office are ridiculously bad.

Mine ran around 140's/80's for a while mostly due to weight which is under control now.

My home machine has a setting to take your BP 3x in a row and then it averages those out for a more accurate reading. The only downside is that it takes 3x as long.
