That would probably depend on who you ask. Peyton himself might belive that to be the case, I, however, do not.

If that was meant as a tongue-in-cheek comment then it's a good one. :)
 
My earnest hope is that Manning does not come here. We didn't just go through two full seasons of turning over the oldest roster in the NFL just to top it off by signing a 36 year old to a mega deal.

I kinda agree. moreover.....how can one not worry about a player with neck issues? as one who suffers back issues....the spine is just no area to mess with.
 
From my reading it is really a nerve issue and not a structural issue with the cervical spine in re future injury.

That said, the Redskins have not as of yet addressed their offense as they have the defense.

We drafted Williams and were bringin him and Fred Davis along until they were suspended.

Put those two together with Leonard Hankerson, who is coming back from injury and that's the younger talent on offense.

This team still needs TWO wide receivers and IMO TWO more offensive line starters.

We could also use an everydown runner in the mold of a Michael Turner or Maurice Jones Drew.

Getting Manning still necessitates all of these other moves.

Does Washington then bring in 32 year old Reggie Wayne and Pierre Garcon at Manning's request?

Adding Manning brings with it a host of questions about the future of this franchise.

A failed move here like the one for McNabb except for bigger dollars and other roster moves to install Peyton's offense, would really deal this team the death blow for then next 3-4 years.

I have also heard that the neck is fine, that it is the strength in the tricept that is the issue right now.

I think the chances of Shanny at least trying to get Peyton Manning are pretty good. He may end up somewhere else but I don't think Shanahan will be able to resist. I for one thing the chances are pretty good he is in the B & G.
 
If we're talking a year or two of Peyton Manning AND drafting a QB high and/or bringing in a Flynn to sit behind him....hell yes I'd like to see Manning in burgundy and gold. Even at 90% of what he was he'd instantly be the best QB we've had here since Sonny retired.

If we're talking about a "mega-deal" for Manning and NOT also drafting a QB high or going after Flynn this year to groom/be there when Peyton's done...hell no I don't want The Forehead in DC. It'd be Haynesworth/Stubblefield/Sanders/George all rolled into one and I'd have to buy a pitchfork.
 
Om, if they drafted his ostensible replacement NEXT year, how would you feel about that? Does it have to be this year?

My feeling is if they bring in Peyton, both sides are going to want to plug as many holes as possible before putting him in a Skins uniform, meaning the QB of the future may have to wait for a season of two.
 
Yeah, I suspect I could wait one more year w/o losing the rest of my hair...but not happily. Mostly because of the uncertainty about Peyton's health.

If we brought him in on spec, passed on his replacement this year in hopes he can play at a high level, and then find out in week 3 the man is done....we'd be hosed. We'd be pushing back the clock yet again on filling the screaming void at QB....which of course is not just ABOUT the QB, but also about finding out what we actually have around him.
 
I agree that a QB in the first couple of rounds might not make a whole lot of since if they pick up Manning because they have so many holes to fill. One QB in the draft this year that I think Shanny will like is Russell Wilson. I think Shanahan Sr really likes his skill set and it wouldn't surprise me at all if he is brought in to learn under Manning.

Let’s assume for the sake of argument that Manning is 100% and ready to start the season. If you bring him to the team you have to be willing to let him be Peyton Manning. What I mean by that is you don’t want him doing a lot of rollout passes or QB keepers. That’s a given, but the coaching staff has to be willing to let him make calls at the line and control the offensive flow. It’s what he does. It’s what has made him a HoF QB.

To my knowledge Manning has never the run the type of WCO that the Shanhan’s run here. Does that mean he couldn’t adapt to this system? Well….no, I just don’t think he’d be nearly as effective as he would be in an offense more suited to his style. This offense isn’t it. I don’t think the staff would be willing to change what they did to suit him exclusively anyway, nor should they. Especially if they think their offensive system is a good one. Why would they install it if they didn’t?

I’ve been bitching about a franchise QB in DC for years, and I want one so bad I can hardly stand it, but this would be a bad fit for a lot of reasons. There would be a whole new set of issues that would come along with his arrival; system/coaching (as I mentioned), age, continued health and supporting cast. That’s just too many things to worry about for a guy who isn’t going to come cheap and has a small window left.

If healthy, Peyton can be a great QB for someone, just not us. Too many things on the wrong side of the ledger on this one.
 
Saw on Twitter that Peyton is expected to have dinner with Larry Fitz this week. Budding romance, or is Larry courting Peyton to come to AZ? They could certainly use a QB.
 
I doubt the landing spot for Peyton Manning is going to be Miami, Cleveland, or Arizona. Manning wants to be relevant again quickly and none of these teams is in very good shape top to bottom. Arizona has Larry Fitzgerald but their OL and defense are terrible.

How about a darkhorse in Dallas? Dallas already has competitive talent at many positions but their quarterback is now 32 and has simply not shown himself to be clutch for the team.

Add in the possibility of partnering a big name player with a profile franchise that the owner, Jerry Jones, is desperate to get back into the limelight with a new stadium and this scenario to me looks a lot more doable than some of the others.

For Manning you go to a team with good receivers in Witten, Austin and Bryant and a chance to be in the thick of a playoff race in the NFC East.

Jones signed Romo to a $37M contract but that was 3 years ago and I would imagine he has worked off a good chunk of the guaranteed portion of that deal already.

As Jones has no intention at age 70 of starting over at 2-14 like the Colts and drafting a quarterback to develop in 2-3 years, Manning seems like perfect timing.

Fitz did the same thing with Kolb last year.
 
The Cowboys OL is worse than ours, I'm not sure Peyton would want to play in big D because of that.
