The Peyton Manning discussion

There is no way in Hades that Peyton would come here with the current state of the o line and the perceived ego when it comes to calling plays by our Offensive coord.

Will we become an uptempo offensive that fits Manning instead of the current plodding no sense of urgency style we see week in week out?


Will he be allowed to be more of the offensive coordinator under center here, as he was in Indy?

I'm thinking No to both questions.
 
One thing I am sick of is all the nepotism in the NFL.

There are so many deserving assistant coaches and guys on the way up that have earned it and you look around and see a Chris Polian or Brian Schottenheimer or other who has progressed due to being on Daddy's staff or in his front office.

In case anyone has looked the Colts have done an AWFUL job in the draft the past few years.

With Peyton Manning out there was no developmental qb to put in the game. There was no solid running back to stabilize the offense. The offensive line was aging and small.

On defense, the team was still depending upon Freeney and Mathis to make plays. These guys have been in Indy for 10 years. Where are the younger playmakers on this unit?

There aren't any.

Oh, wait a minute. They did trade for Justin Tryon last year didn't they? :laugh:

I don't buy it. Maybe this is the "conspiracy theorist" in me, but I think this is just a tool to get activity going on whatever publication employs them.
 
Last week he was being rumored to the Cardinals, this week the Skins and next week someone else. Rumors like this go on every offseason.

I just don't think Manning is a fit in Washington. I've said it before, he'll want to run the offense but so will the Shanahans. No real weapons to speak of and a suspect O-line. I don't see what his attraction to DC would be.

If he does play again, I could see Miami, especially if Fisher goes there.

I would be OK with picking up Manning and Saturday as FAs. It would allow us to trade back in the 1st round pick up more picks to bolster the OL and draft a QB to groom for the future also. There are no guarantees that any draft pick is a hit or will stay healthy so the more picks the better as I see it for our re-building team. At his worse Manning is still better then the turnover machine we had under center this year.
 
Look at the playoff teams this year and then look at the Redskins starting a 35 year old quarterback coming off missing an entire season with an injury to the most vulnerable area of the body, the neck and spine.

Sound like a recipe for success with Manning joining Moss, Cooley, Gaffney, etc for a geriatric offense?

I am going to disagree with the idea that he will play for the Jets. I think they are an absolute mess and I don't think Peyton would play for them. I am starting to think if healthy he could be in the Burgundy and Gold.

if he's healty i would love to see him here , but as stated earlier i dont think tha shanny's would let him run his kind of offense that he's use too ! if so with tha first pick get tha best o lineman available in tha draft or free agency to protect him ...would be great !

Speculation about potential suitors for Peyton Manning continued to swirl Sunday, with ESPN reporting that Arizona will join the Dolphins, Jets and Redskins as teams interested in the star quarterback if the Colts set him free.

Manning sits atop the Dolphins’ quarterback wish list this offseason, and they will aggressively pursue him if he’s a free agent and if he’s cleared medically, two people with direct knowledge of Miami’s plans said in the past week.

If Manning-to-Miami does not materialize, the Dolphins will turn to other options, including Packers impending free agent Matt Flynn or an attempt to trade up to draft Baylor’s Robert Griffin III.

The Colts must decide by March 8 whether to pay a $28 million roster bonus to Manning, who is still rehabilitating from neck surgery.

Colts owner Jim Irsay told NFL Network last month that if Manning can get healthy, he will be back with the team. But the surgically repaired nerves in his neck continue to regenerate, and his health remains a question.

Manning, 35, reportedly would not be willing to push back the deadline to give the Colts more time to make a decision. With Indianapolis positioned to draft Stanford’s Andrew Luck, some in the league believe the Colts might set Manning free. Irsay said Saturday the Colts will draft a quarterback with the No. 1 pick.

Because of the size of his contract, it’s highly unlikely Manning would be traded. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen said Sunday there’s “nothing certain on Manning’s future.’’

• As Mortensen first reported, Dolphins coach Joe Philbin met Sunday with former NFL offensive lineman Andy Heck about the Dolphins’ offensive line coaching job. Heck served in that role for the Jacksonville Jaguars since 2004 before Mike Mularkey recently took over as the team’s coach.

• Add Bengals assistant Kevin Coyle to the list of names reported as a possibility for the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator job. Coyle has been Cincinnati’s defensive backs coach for 10 years. Philbin has autonomy in assembling his staff.

• Philbin will not attend Senior Bowl practices, which begin Monday in Mobile. Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland will discuss the state of the team with reporters on Tuesday.

The key phrase for me, of course, being this in the second paragraph-"two people with direct knowledge of Miami’s plans said in the past week."-in terms of just who these "two people" might be. It will be interesting to se what new HC Joe Philbin might have in mind since it seems that he would likely push hard for grabbing Matt Flynn given his familiarity with him.

(Aside: The Packers coaching staff is getting absolutely raided.)

that will work too ! Rg3 will help out tha o line by moving around in tha pocket , not just waiting to get sacked ..also tha running game will take off leaveing more room for play action to be a sucess !
 
La Canfora is worse than a weather man he's not even right half the time. We could move up but the fact that he says he has heard we will means nothing.
