The Name Change

spot on

He quoted this line "in 20 years time when they change the name, people will look back and say did they really call a team that"

No they won't they will not be allowed to think anything or Big Brother will summon before the courts.

I can't stand this entire subject!

This is politics intended to distract from more serious issues. the worst part ot it? the people pushing hardest almost uniformly have taken care of themselves their entire lives and done nothing really substantive. the irony in this is...whether self-serving or not....Dan Snyder has put his dollars on the table for tribal causes. King simply uses a media soapbox and thumps his chest on what aq great guy he is....even though 99% of these media types don't do a damn thing when it comes to real rubber meeting real roads.

They're "a voice"...cuz...they "really care". yea. right.

Yeah. If it didn't involve something I care so deeply about, the absurdity of it would be amusing, I think.

Goal...not directed at you...I just see most of the people complaining these days...not actually doing anything. I can't stand carter...but at least he was actaully building hoomes so he earned some respect IMO.

Wow. I would have imagined institutions of higher learning had better things to do with their time. Like, you know, staying relevant.

Shows what I know.

University president Eric Kaler gave the assurances in a letter to U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, a Democrat who has said use of the name would violate school policies on equity and diversity.

From their page...

Race discrimination is defined as unfair treatment of an individual based on characteristics traditionally associated with race, such as skin color, hair texture, and facial features. It also includes making decisions or taking adverse actions against an employee or student because of preconceived negative assumptions, biases, or judgments concerning race or color.
Harassment on the basis of race or color is a violation if the conduct creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work or educational environment, or interferes with an individual’s work or educational performance. Racial slurs or jokes and verbal or physical conduct motivated by an individual’s race or color are unacceptable in the University educational and work community.

I want these guys to show me any incidents of the word "Redskins" being used in a derogatory fashion anytime in the past 50 years, that has not been related to the name change controversy. I want to know any documented case of it actually happening.

Dumb asses.

I keep going back to Kevin Hart when people try to compare it with the N word.

"You never hear anyone say 'shut up, you redskin' because it just isn't the same"

and it isn't. if i walked in to a bar and yelled "REDSKINS" people would either boo or cheer because of the football team and NOT anything else.

that's so bad, it is blackmail.

Minnesota University might wanna watch their own team name IMO. The only time I've heard the word Gopher used lately is referring to the peon in the office who gets bossed around all day.

Gopher=Peon=Slave which makes it obviously a discriminatory word and I'm offended that they'd even consider using that considering the plight of all those Gophers in every office in America...

not dumb asses. people keep missing the point! it's about power and control paraded under the banner of pseudo morality.

I've been reading pft for about 15 years and it pisses me off that ever since NBC started budgeting the site florio and now recently his other writers have become serious haters of the team/name. I have to find a new source for my sports news...I haven't watched espn outside of a MNF game since the invention of nfl network, that includes espn the magazine and nfl prime time.

Follow the money, JLI. Who owns NBC? Comcast. Where is Comcast based? Philadelphia. See where this is going?

Who in the Native American community has a business relationship with NBC? Try that "leader" of the Oneida tribe. For Harjo, it was never about truth and always about money. She is a lawyer above everything else and has no regard (or knowledge) of true history.

As always, follow the money. It never tells a lie.

Shi no Tenshi, that was one awesome read, one of if not the best article I have read concerning the debate, proper journalism still exists.

I want to add somthing else, was listening to the Colin Cowherd radio show podcast this week as I always do, he had three guests on this week all of whom he asked about the name controversy. What was interesting was each of their replies.

Guest 1 - Al Michaels - Was asked if he would keep calling usthe Redskins, Michaels was superb and professional in his reply. He told Colin it's their name and we are contracted to use their full proper name. Besides what do you expect us to do when after they score a touchdown over 80,000 voices start signing hail to the Redskins? mute it? you need to get real Colin it is not my job to comment on things but to describe each play correctly.

Guest 2 - Peter "fcuking" King (spit on his name) - Oh Colin the name will change, and soon. The league must hate the distration the controvesy is causing. Are you for real? The league is loving this because it masks how they are not taking action against a team owner for possession of illeagal drugs. How they barely slapped the wrist of a wife beater. The distraction is masking bigger more serious problems that exist in the league today. It does not care we and Snyder are getting bashed because we know they have no love for us.

Guest 3 - Chris Cooley - Colley was great, told him he had visted several native American reservation visiting many unannounced and nothing to do with official Redskin buisness. But in all those visits he had never met a single Native American who was offended by the name. He even went as far as to ask Cowherd how many Native Americans he had met who were offended? he got no answer.

I guess the point i am trying to get accross is the media loves this story because it makes them look good with their Liberal/socialst " intelligent readership. (Ever noticed how liberals/socialists are always refered to as intelligent?) Journalism used to be about reporting on ACTUAL EVENTS or seeking out the TRUTH about stories/events/causes. Today it is more about presenting only one side of a story and berating the other side of the discussion by belittleing it.

It's good but he got one fact wrong, it wasn't 50 U.S. senators who sent the letter it was 50 State Senators...MAJOR difference.

So I heard Tom Jackson say this morning that he's no longer saying the word Redskins on air.

So Tom, you had no trouble doing that for 28 yrs on air and today you decided it offends you?

Anybody can stick their finger in the air and figure out what bandwagon to hop on. This just shows exactly the depth of research you've done on the subject, which explains how you've done your football analysis all these years.

Guess that 87 ass kicking we gave your Broncos is still raw....

I've seen this numerous times. It's intentionally left out and it's intentionally misleading.
