The Jayden Daniels Tracker

With the better o line, I hope his rushing stats drop. So, maybe 400 yards rushing, but 4,500+ passing because all those scrambles suddenly become effective passing plays.
Yeah, that’s my theory as well and why I dropped him from 891 to 700. I would have dropped it further, but I think he’s gonna break off a few more long runs this year where he takes it to the house from beyond the 50…. The LSU-Florida highlights are dancing in my head.

I agree. We are likely to see some more long runs this year. I wish we had a real, dynamic RB, to make teams play the RPO more honestly.

Regarding Jayden's stats, this OL is going to give him a lot more time to go through progressions and push the ball down the field. Having a YAC guy like Deebo should help a lot. I think Lane could also help as a YAC guy. Jayden also started a little slow last year, with 2, zero TD games. We do play some really tough defenses this year.

I think 4100 yards, 68% completion rate, 32 TD's, 10 INT's in the air, plus 750 yards and 7 TD's on the ground. That doesn't feel overly ambitious/unrealistic to me. It feels like a natural progression.

NFL changes people. LSU has a premium program, but the amount of time to work out and get your body right changes a lot when you no longer have that pesky school work in the way.

Unless he's injured there's no way JD has only 400 rushing yards. I'm going with 600 minimum. We have nobody like Barkley to pick up the slack. Unless that rookie RB comes out and takes over I see no legit RB on this team. Daniels doesn't even trust Robinson on the RO plays 90% of the time.

Robinson is a jag, but for some reason Quinn and crew seem to want to stick with him. Maybe he improves a bit but I am not going to predict that he does.

Just for reference, 400 yards would put Daniels at number 10 at rushing leaders for QBs last year. 600 would be third. Josh Allen got 531 yards. So while I'd be okay with him getting 600, I actually would be fine if the number was lower. I don't think he has to be a running QB like Lamar.

That’s true for sure. Theres also having spent a year getting hit and brought down by NFL starters (not to say JD didn’t get hit by big boys at LSU but the NFL is a whole other level). He probably has quickly come to believe backing on some bulk and muscle just to protect himself a little more would be a wise thing to do.

I don't know exactly where else to put this, so I'll put it here for now.

Galdi had John Kosko on his podcast on Friday. I have sworn an oath not to go off the deep end anytime anybody used PFF grades or references PFF sources in a post, like I used to do. And I think I've done fairly well with keeping my sacred vow.

However, this John Kosko guy demonstrated everything I hate about PFF. He rated the 2025 rookie QBs, and put Jayden Daniels 6th behind (in some order, I'm not entirely sure), Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, Burrow and Hurts.. Which I was fine with. Would I argue Daniels might be better than Hurts? Maybe but Hurts has played in 2 SBs, won one of them, and I think gets undervalued at times. And would I put Daniels on the same tier as the other top 4 after one year? Not yet. Maybe next year if he repeats or exceeds what he did in his rookie year. So, for me, all good there. (And also, I think trying to rank Mahomes, Allen, Jackson and Burrow is foolish. They are the top 4 QBs in the league, and I think the distance between them and #5 is a big jump.

Jayden Daniels at 6 was probably a good spot for him.

But what stuck out like a sore thumb and made me shake my head is the damn fool ranked JJ McCarthy as the third best QB in the class, behind Daniels at 6, and Bo Nix at 20-something. And one spot blow Bo Nix. Why? Because he had McCarthy as his QB1 coming out of college, ahead of Daniels, Caleb Williams and Drake Maye. And not even missing the entire season was going to sway his opinion, he had to rank his guy who NEVER PLAYED above Williams and Maye, who both played, and played well at times, and Penix, who played a little and also played well.

Personally, I would have given McCarthy and "incomplete" and not ranked him, because you don't know anything more now than you did when he was drafted. Comparing draft grades to NFL production is not something you can do.

Anyway, I haven't bitched about PFF recently, and I think I've generally been on good behavior about it. But in my opinion, this is just absolute horse hockey. And the fact he puffed his chest out about having McCarthy ranked as his top prospect coming out shows stupidity on the highest level. As it turns out, McCarthy was picked as the 5th QB taken. The NFL voted and said John's preseason rankings were stupid.

He didn't go as far as Epic Moron Dumbass Self Infatuated Needs To Stop And Take A Breath You Are Not Paid By The Word Thor Nystrom proclaiming he had not been as sure the league had messed up as he was when they passed on Lamar Jackson (editorial note: who was picked in the first round) as he was when Malik Willis lasted to the third round. That's the epitome of epic stupid moron egotistical nonsense right there.

So John stayed below that. But that's not saying much.

During the 2024 pre-draft period I watched an s load of college game film. I believe that JJ will ultimately become the 2nd best from that QB class. I actually lightly pounded the table that Washington take him at #2. That was based upon my fear at the time that Jayden would not physically survive in the NFL. Actual events since have proven me wrong/crazy/stupid. That said…I still to this day believe that McCarthy will end up as the second best in that class, only behind Daniels.

I agree JJ looked like a great prospect, and I’m still predicting he’ll emerge as one of the best in a great QB class. Time will tell of course. I’ll be interested to see how it goes for him this year.

Yeah, I think so too. And he is totally set up for success with O’Connell and those weapons. Greatest receiver on earth is always nice. If they could make Sam Darnold into an All-Star, then the sky is the limit for JJ in Minnesota.

I think McCarthy looked like an ok QB on a great team. I never saw the intrigue. He is set up well. I think he's going to fail. I don't think he has either the arm or the processing speed to succeed in the NFL.

I watched several of his games and commented on every play. Sadly, those posts are no more, but I did the same for Daniels, Maye and McCarthy. I didn't bother for Caleb because he was going #1 so there wasn't really a point.

I came away thinking McCarthy was CLEARLY the #3 of that group, and by a pretty significant margin.

I was more Maye than Daniels because of 2 reasons:
1. I was concerned about Daniels' size and therefore availability.
2. I didn't see him throw into tight window throws across the middle because LSU never asked him to do it. So I said I didn't know if he could. I also didn't know if he couldn't.

But I also said if Daniels stayed healthy, and actually could throw across the middle, he was the better prospect. I just couldn't predict #1 and didn't have information on #2. Peters clearly did and picked him over Maye.

I am not rooting for or against McCarthy, because I really don't care if I'm right or not. But I don't think he's going to be a success, and what success he does have, I think you can attribute to O'Connell. I really didn't think much of him as a QB at all.

I could be very wrong. But I think the NFL clearly saw him more the way I did than the way a lot of draft folks did.

And I would have taken Maye 100 times out of 100 over McCarthy. To me, that was never in doubt. Maye did have some footwork issues which led to inconsistency and inaccuracy. There are times he just missed his target by a mile because he couldn't organize himself to make a good throw. But when he did get himself organized, he was very accurate and has a great arm.

If you like to read the tea leaves like I do my hesitation with crowning mcarthy at this point is less about the fact that he hasn't played and more about how the Vikings seemed on the fence about who their quarterback was going to be this year and then finally committed to mcarthy.
That's not a good sign that they didn't seem 100 percent committed to him right from the get go.

Most teams who draft a quarterback fairly early in the first round committ to them very quickly and once they knew darnold wasn't going to be their guy again this year it surprised me that their was possible rodgers rumors among others and mcarthy was more of an option than the surefire guy which just seemed odd to me, i was expecting the Vikings to immediately and loudly shift to mcarthy as their guy.

With him missing all of last year, I think they were still in the mode of he’s really young and inexperienced, and we wouldn’t mind sitting him behind a veteran for at least part of the season if we can. Then you throw in the health concerns with the knee and I don’t blame them if true for kicking the tires on a guy like Rodgers too start the season. I don’t read into it as they see him as any less their quarterback for the future.

Honestly, I still think it’d be fun if Daniels and X became this generation’s Brady vs Manning. I don’t truly care who emerges as the nemesis

Daniels/Stroud
Daniels/Williams
Daniels/Penix
Etc.

It’d all be great, but to be good enough to have rivalry that is a national talking point would be amazing.
That's looking like Hurts right now--especially given the team around him currently.

Yeah, but I would rather it be Mahomes, cuz that would mean Superbowls rather than division or conference championship games.
