Yeah I am not one of the haters here of Quinn. But not all in either. i am sort of wait and see with all these coaches. I was the quickest as far as being out on Zorn, I was out on him within year 1. Jay sort of too but felt bad for him at times because of that FO.

I gave Ron the most rope but I turned on him big time heading into his last year.

As for Quinn, based on what I've heard he works his ass off and wants to win badly. I do think he likely learns from this season and bounces back.

But....

Hiring Raheem Morris would be the first red flag for me this off season. It's not that I think he's an awful D coordinator. He should be an improvement over Whitt. But by reputation he's a pedestrian strategist but A level dude -- and if that's how Quinn sees a make or break season for him, it would come off to me that Quinn can't override his personality-complusion to Tony Robbins his way to a SB.

I don't love all that Peters has done but I get the strong impression that he's ruthless in the quest to win. Hiring Morris would indicate to me that Quinn thinks he can brotherhood his way into a SB and IMO he won't be able to do it. The brotherhood IMO is a subplot not the main plot. If Quinn hires Morris to me its a sign that he thinks its all about brotherhood. I'll give him a chance to prove it. But if it goes south, lol, I'll be trashing Quinn as much as his naysayers are on this thread.
 
Keim made the point that the Bobby Johnson firing might be a clue into the next hire albiet he questioned if it would be Daboll.

I don't dislike Daboll maybe I am biased for all the detail lol Logan Paulsen used to give about how much Daboll outwitted Del Rio so it left me with a good impression. And he did a nice job developing Josh Allen, Dart.

But it would feel so wild in this context. Is their an offensive play caller who leans in less than Daboll as to relying on his QB's legs? Remember his first season coaching Daniel Jones -- he was running him like he was Lamar Jackson.

lol, I knew that was coming but Logan really seemed taken by Daboll's playcalling.

The outwitting stuff stunned me because Logan usually was so cautious about that stuff because he works for the team.

I've watched almost every Giants game as to Daboll -- he's an emotional roller coaster. It would be one heck of a personality shift from Kliff.

But that change would feel wild to me. At a minimum it would show that Quinn's main issue with Kliff wasn't that Jayden ran too much.

I've put a lot of thought into some aspects of football but never a ton into comparing offensive schemes. I like the bunch sets, play action, outside zone aspects of McVay-Kyle's offense albiet McVay is always changing it, more duo-gap runs, etc. But I am more of a timing based love of play calling versus a specific style. When the coach times this or times that versus what scheme they use is what I care about more. Thus if someone says get Slowik because of Shanny's system or whatever it doesn't move me.

Look at how inept Andy Reid's offense looks like without Mahomes? lol, Kliff is moving the ball with Josh Johnson. So on a macro level, I think he's been fine. Whitt IMO has underperformed his talent or at a minimum didn't make lemonade out of lemons. Kliff IMO had made lemonade out of lemons enough. I also do care that Jayden digs working with him. And IMHO this FO hasn't done much to help or pander to Jayden.

But outside of that, I don't have strong emotions. And I like the give me the new shiny toy coordinator and the cool new narrative as much as anyone. There is some fun to any new coordinator. But aside from that the only thing I like about this is if we wanted a FO and coachiing staff that feels this off season needs to be about bringing changes, they are screaming that loud and clear.

For me, I want to see the hires before I react at this point. i am worried that Quinn botches round 2 of this -- not because of incompetence but more because of him making personality driven choices. Raheem Morris would be a text book case of this. He's not by reputation the best coordinator, but he's a big name and he fits this we all love each other brotherhood theme.

And I am not against the brotherhood stuff, but to me their identity has to transcend just the brotherhood stuff. Kliff not willing to bend to Quinn's wishes goes against the brotherhood theme -- OK he's the HC its his call but I don't want the offensive coordinator to be sort of the Raheem Morris for that side of the ball.

Fair points across the board. I’m at a point with Quinn (and less so, but approaching it, with Peters) where I’m actually excited to see if he botches this or not. It would suck if he does, but it means we’ll have our answer on him sooner than later. Not the conversation I wanted to be having going into year 3, but better to know now if he’s not the guy, and then be resigned to watching it play out. And we’re about to find out once and for all.
 




Thought this was interesting. Account that usually breaks down NFL schemes, former NFL guy, anonymous. Seems to imply that the way Quinn gives total autonomy to his DC’s is not what most defensive HC’s do, and the threat of him hitting a breaking point and then just taking over because he wasn’t involved beforehand, sounds like an awkward state of affairs.

Yeah like or not like this move with Kliff. When you factor that and Whitt being fired - not reassigned but let go. He is early on this off season showing 2 things: A. He gets that last season wasn't just about injuries. He's said the same but now he's acting on it. B. He is willing to be bold to bring changes.

Keim from the Quinn perspective seems to be on the idea that this is his last stand. If it doesn't work out its likely not just his last season here as a HC but the last year likely for him ever to be a HC.

Feels a little like George from Seinfeld, with the if you want to get nuts lets get nuts line. So yeah for me too if its Quinn going full out taking chances and that's what we get this off season -- Quinn unplugged, ok cool, lets see what happens. IMO he's earned the right for this season 3, but if season 2 goes south he should be fired.

Makes sense. Dan is an accomplished D coordinator, yet hands off of his own unit. But now that he's become hands on -- its an odd dynamic.

A. Working for a dude who just ran the defense and has his own great resume on that front and might not be able to resist and butt in regardless of context

B. If it goes off to a stumbiling start which it might because of the lack of talent does Quinn impinge on coaching the unit like he did this season
 
Johnson getting fired.

Quinn and dabol together in new york and also Peter's and dabol together in new england for 3 years.

There are certainly plenty of dots to connect here if you want to speculate.

This makes it sound like Daboll might be the front runner.

If the only knock on him was that he lets his quarterback run, then I would be happy, we should definitely let Jayden run.

I’m a little worried about how bad his Giants teams were, but maybe he is better as a coordinator than a head coach?

My Bills fan friend wants Daboll back there badly.

He would definitely let Daniels run, I’d hope there would be less designed runs and that would be a conversation beforehand. But it’s always been an element for him—Josh Allen, Daniel Jones, Jaxson Dart. Arguably it got him fired early this year because he was being reckless with someone else’s merchandise.

So that’s an interesting twist if so, and would imply the philosophical differences are much more about the run game focus, shotgun/pistol obsession/lack of motion and PA…rather than designed QB runs

Dorsey and boy wonder Joe Brady haven't been able to replicate what he did in Buffalo. Given it's been a while, people are forgetting just how good the Bills offense looked with him when he was there
 
wow if he is ready to continue coaching then yes Harbaugh all day over Quinn. Like rn.

Do ya can Quinn after having just given him the stamp of approval and at least one more year then you court Harbaugh and hope he's interested?

Do you call Harbaugh on a secret line behind closed doors to gage his interest and do nothing if he says no?

What if somebody finds out we wanted him and failed and now we're stuck with quinn?

It all screams total dysfunction and thats what we thought we were getting away from when we rid ourselves of Snyder.

I do agree with you though, Harbaugh is a better coach.
 
I like Dan Quinn. But if Harbaugh wants to keep coaching, show DQ the door. John doesn't even have to sell his house and move, and let's go kick some ass.

it happens all the time in pro sport... you reach out and find out if there is interest. If there is you get him to sign a wink/nod deal. Once he does.. you fire Quinn and announce the new hire. I am pretty sure Quinn knows he is on the hot seat anyway... so even if it gets out that they reached out to Harbaough but he wasnt interested... well .. its not like he Quinn has any other options. He is coaching for his job either way you look at it
