The HC Dan Quinn Discussion Thread

So he was like "fuck you I do what I want." I'll wear my L on this one. I still think this is a massive mistake, but I'll be happy to wear that L too.

I am not sure how stout the Shanahan tree is if we are referring to the Kyle Shanahan tree. The Mike Shanahan tree produced a lot of future coaching & coordinator talent but has tree replenished it's roots and sprouted another new generation as of yet?

McVay is a Shanny product.

This is actually a good point.

In terms of "process over outcome" we may describe it like this:
1) DQ put in what people expected to be good coordinators. <-- process
2) Offense looked good. <-- outcome.
3) Defense looked bad. <-- outcome
4) Defense gameplan/prep/scheme/playcalling/personnel utiliziation/etc -- something was wrong I assume. <-- process
5) Offense gameplan/prep/scheme/playcalling//personnel utiliziation/etc -- something was wrong I assume. <-- process

So I think when the FO looks at it, they evaluate DQ on step 1.
They evaluate the coordinators specifically on 4 and 5.

So DQ gets a pass because he chose well on the surface, but it didn't work out.
Now he has to choose again.

Man I feel like this could backfire, horribly.
You know how you sell your house, it totally depends on what buyers are out there, and if you buy a house, it totally depends on what houses are available...

KK had a statistically good offense. He was ready to go look to become a HC (he himself was unhappy here). I don't think that's major conjecture. It's part of mutually parting ways.
The team thought (for whatever reason) they should look for a new coordinator.

Not sure why.

It may end poorly because of what's out there and what happens in the hiring process. It's the same for any of these hirings/firings, the timing always matters. It doesn't mean it was a bad idea to move on - you can only evaluate that if you know exactly why they did it. You don't.

I'm not sure what media expects JD5 to set in an interview -- "My OC, yeah, we need to get rid of him". He's a class act. He's not going down that kinda road.

Also, on the Galdi point about Kliff wanting JD5, it's pretty well-documented how enamored and stoked AP was about JD5 and he was our guy with that pick all along.

It will be interesting to see the "reports" in the aftermath of this, what was said, the reason behind it, what was discussed, etc.

Piss off your franchise QB, brilliant.

Daboll or Stefanski would be slam dunks at OC though.

Kliff Kingsbury felt like a calculated swing, not a long-term ideological commitment. With Jayden Daniels rare dual-threat talent, Kliff offered the fastest path to unlocking upside potential, at a moment when there simply wasn’t a deep pool of high-end, QB-friendly West Coast coordinators available.

Not sure what the offensive philosophy going forward is with AP/Quinn. Is either necessarily a Shanahan ideologue?

This is what i was saying all along. Quinn failed at the the most important task for a HC... hiring the right OC and DC. I honestly don't get why they keep him. Clean house and start over.. Quinn already massively failed once.... you really trust him to make the right choices this time?! ridiculous!

For what its worth, and I know some say its worth nothing, Keim among others said Jayden and Kliff are close and that's not just a public posturing thing, its real.

I get the whole who gives a rats ass what Jayden thinks. But IMHO this isn't a FO that's on a roll as to helping Jayden -- I give them a D at best as to being good for Jayden. So the idea of lets trust them this time. I'll ride with it. But if I were Jayden I'd be skpetical.
