DQ, A+??? What is the criteria I wonder

The players love him. I think we all saw that when they didn’t quit down the stretch last year. In my mind it’s the main thing he has going for him tbh, but they have to bounce back and the wins have to follow, or no amount of player buy-in will be worth his job.

Yes it is beyond unsurprising.

I am really happy with that owner rating!

Dislexia - what idiot would give DQ an A+ after a 5 win season? .. and NO. "players didn't quit on him" is not a grading category... its a bare minimum for barely competent coach in the NFL

It’s a grade from our players, on behalf of the NFLPA union. It’s not a grade based on the quality of coach he is. It’s a grade based on professionalism, treatment of players, and leadership. Soft skills essentially. EQ vs IQ.

Yes which is why while it is cool I am happier about the owner grade. That I think tends to be more reflective of facilities, care, and organizational professionalism. I think that is more aligned with success than the coaching A+ under these particular auspices. In fact some coaches probably the players don’t always like much but could be on track to help them win (discipline, etc). Sometimes the grade may say more about team culture (the grader vs the graded).

I bet it is. “Hey we played like shit and I still get to keep my job, I love this guy! “ I wonder how many players loved Bellichik?

Hey I’m not arguing with you. I’m out on Quinn and just playing the waiting game to see if I’m out on Peters as well. I’ll know soon. But just thought I’d explain to you what it was the players were actually asked to grade, since you came in hot

Not trying to be insulting but I think you need to expand your thought process a little.
If it was simply about win loss record there would be no need for a grade at all.
This particular grade is about what kind of environment he's fostering and the players all think its an exceptionally positive one.

Think of it this way, the year we drafted Rg3 and won the division was Snyder worthy of a B plus that year or was he still fostering a terrible environment riddled with sexual misconduct and stoagie smoking narcissistic behavior worthy of an f minus?

Im not sold that quinn is the answer either and I've been pretty vocal about it but I think when it comes to being a leader of men there are few coaches out there who are better.
Unfortunately he tends to fall short in the x's and o's and game management department which is also pretty critical.

I think you missed my sarcasm and point. As a hc your job is to foster a winning culture. That’s your number 1 job. Players loved Rivera and he was a terrible coach.
. That’s why I used Bellichik as an example, most players didn’t love him because he was a hard ass, but his teams won consistently.
Great coaches get wins… whether they are loved by their players is a far off second. Win and you’re loved by everyone.

No i get what you're saying and I respect the argument that an A plus isn't warranted after a 5 win season and the grade should be lowered a little because of it I just dont agree that this particular grade has anything to do with wins and losses.

As you said the players loved Rivera but despite that his last year coaching the team we ranked 32nd out of 32 teams.

The strength and conditioning coaches got A pluses too yet we got pushed around the field and suffered the most injuries in the league.

The owners got an A plus yet they let their subordinates lead us to a 5 win season.

Hell our defensive coordinator got a b minus when the results warranted a Z minus.

This grade is about overall environment not end results and hopefully now that we have that part fixed after 30 plus years of ineptitude in that department, once we get the rest straightened out we will start seeing consistent results.

And yet the players rated Rivera 2nd to last in 2023…

Unsurprisingly, he ranked 26th in “efficient with the player’s time”, 27th in “listens to the locker room”.

This guy? I mean, what player wouldn't love a guy so on top of literally every aspect of the team?

If this operation doesn’t work out, top of my shopping list next time are the adaptable “ideas” guys. Preferably on offense. But…innovators

I mean Sean Payton was rated B and Habough in LA as a C+ .. its a popularity contest like the prowbowl and means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

It purely captures how players feel like they’re treated by that coach, for that period. It’s not football related. So it is pretty much by definition a popularity contest, as long as what makes you popular with your locker room is acting professional and treating them well. It’s measuring something specific for use within the players’ union

So then Rivera was not loved by his players?

Not by the end. He became almost a recluse for most of that final season, delegating most things, is clearly hard-headed, and he handed weekly team management to Bieniemy (who was an infamous asshole) at the beginning of camp. I’m guessing the players didn’t feel very heard or respected that final year, and they lost locker room buy-in (obviously, that’s how we tanked hard enough to earn the Daniels pick).

I’m sure they on average still thought Rivera was a good guy. But after years of dealing with him as nothing worked, and then with the changes made in that doomed final lame duck season…no surprise the grade was low, everything else aside.

Don’t remember how the grades were before that. They were a fairly new concept towards the end of Snyder’s reign.
