The Gruden Files - Year Two

Good memory? You're suggesting Gruden was going to start Paulsen over Reed...Niles Paul was named starter at the TE position, not Logan Paulsen. At no time was Logan Paulsen ever named starter.

Yeah, I was wondering what was goin' on, surely he was talking about Niles and just mistyped Paul.....a bunch
Almost forgot about the caveman..... Paulsen

Thought this was covered earlier anyway.

I guess the question then becomes whether a coach should "believe" in the players the fans think he should, or the players he, his staff, the GM, the other players and the organization at large live and work with every day and rely upon to make a living.

:)
He absolutely should go with the players he believes in. Input from whoever else is fine, but a coach should always do what he believes is the best for the team. So then, wouldn't you say, at the very least, he stopped believing in Griffin & Morris? Then believing he never did isn't much of a stretch.

Hell no OM. A coach should evaluate and make a decision. Gruden did that but didn't have the control to make a permanent change last year IMO. McL provided that control. That's what is most ironic. The same guys blasting Gruden for giving up on RG aren't taking McL to task for backing the play.
With all due respect, poppycock.

Gruden had the authority the second he signed his contract. If it took Mr McGlue coming here for him to grow a set of balls, then it further demonstrates his lack of leadership.

GM's get the players. Coach decides who plays.

Try to follow along.

It wasn't a secret Paulsen was going to be the starter.
As the blocking TE, yes. As you may or may not recall, and mentioned more than once in the very link you posted, there are two TE's--one generally blocks, the other generally runs routes.

Paulsen was penciled in as the blocking TE.

Paul was ahead of Reed coming into this year as the pass-catching TE based on his previous play and the difficulty Reed had had staying on the field.

Paul got hurt. Reed stepped up.

Sometimes things change.

Sure it is. Your theory suggests a professional football coach decided, before ever seeing the players play, that certain players were better than others no matter what they showed in practice, meeting rooms, or on the field. That defies credulity.

I am so glad I am not as cynical as you. I am happy to see the playoffs, and attend the game. I am happy there has not been a media firestorm of drama surrounding this team since game 1. I am happy there is an obvious upward mobility to the franchise that is getting play in the national media. I am happy our QB started all 16 games.

I'm happy!

Fan62 is never satisfied. When doctor said you're going to have a child, Fan said meh I was hoping for a boy.

If you've ever seen Paulsen in-person, he's a gigantic human being. Now... I'm only 5'5", but have seen him at the Leesburg Wegmans a few times and dude is a big boy. Kinda' looks like a caveman, too... perfect blocking TE... ;)

More than embarrassing posts, playoff weekend and folks still bashing.........Confirmation of Redskins haters, disgusting but that apparently is what they want, for no one to be happy. just saying.

No sir.

I'm suggesting that human beings often pick favorites, or for no apparent reason, dislike/distrust someone. Personality conflicts/jealousy are a part of life. Happens every single day. In every walk of life. It's human nature. Professional football coaches/players are not immune to the phenomena. It can, and does, affect the way people treat each other. I would say that not recognizing the possibility, defies reality.

Anything is possible, brother. That's not really the issue though. The issue is that making the assumption a professional football coach would do what you are suggesting, to the potentially fatal detriment of his team and his own ability to succeed in his maiden voyage as a head coach, defies common sense.

More than embarrassing fans, waiting until the team gets on a roll to get on the "all in" wagon. Confirmation of fair weather fandom. Some of us have been positive around here for years, while other spent most of their time bashing the positive folks, and getting away with it.

To those I say, Welcome to the party, pal.

I give you this...

George Allen did it to Sonny. Why is it so impossible to think that it doesn't happen still today.

I don't care that he's a professional football coach. Even parents pick favorite children and treat them differently. Being coach is meaningless.

There's going to be plenty of time to have discourse and discussion regarding Gruden's aptitude and judgement as a coach "after" the season ends. I think he's progressed this year from last, I still think the jury is out long term, much like for many players who produced well this year, but for now the only thing that matters is putting Rogers on his back 6x this Sunday and us putting up 30+ points. We've endured a whole boatload, excuse me, armada of bulls### regarding our Redskins for what feels like an eternity. I've definitely had my negative moments this season especially in chat, not now, we're in the dance, now let's go @@&* the prom queen. HTTR !!!!

The swinging gate should be buried in the depths of hades and never spoken of or seen again............

Sellers was the 'Caveman', right?

Some of us can **** the prom queen, and still not like her dress. ;)

There is NOBODY on the planet happier than myself about our current position. Or that's been behind the TEAM, every single day, more than me.

That will never change.

Well, you are free to believe what you want. What it looks like to me is a case of working backwards from a conclusion and assuming facts not in evidence to support it.

To me the far more likely scenario involves a coach sizing up his options and making a decision based on first-hand observation and experience.

But maybe I'm wrong and Gruden came to town already having decided the 2012 ROY was a bust, and that a mid-round rookie RB who had yet to take an NFL snap or participate in an NFL practice was a better than the incumbent starter coming off three successive 1000 yard seasons.

What did that Occam guy know, anyway?

I don't care what kind of fan anyone is. We all have our perspective and generally there are plenty here from each end of the spectrum. I don't think we should be labeling fellow fans 'band wagoners', 'haters', 'blind homers' or anything else. What I do think is that this is a week to pull together, root for our team, and for a little while enjoy the success and promise that has been absent for so long. We're not going to tolerate anyone who wants to be a buzzkill, distraction, or create discord and disharmony this week.

If you're going to drop the ax (proverbial, not the poster) on Tr1, you might consider folks on the other side of the equation as well. You know, those folks who call people who didn't 100% support Gruden idiots? Regardless of who started this shitstorm road this thread has devolved in to, BOTH sides have done plenty to keep it getting worse and worse.

If some of us aren't allowed to express negativity towards the team, I don't see why other posters should be allowed to express negativity towards us.

Frankly, imo, one is MUCH worse than the other.

We've never *moderated* based on POV. We do occasionally (and I think even rarely would be accurate) moderate when someone gets especially snarky, rude, or aggressive. We don't need any help figuring out when to moderate and when not to. And if we ever make mistakes in yours or anyone else's estimation, that's obviously your right to express.
