The first Jayden Daniels Super Bowl window has shut. Hard.

She did this last year and no one cared. It's also Riggo's Rag.

Now we have Jayden’s mom and friends on social media blaming his teammates for his horrible season? What a nightmare. This kind of thing and the injuries were the two big worries about him prior to the draft and both have come true.

We should have picked Drake Maye, who isn’t always hurt, didn’t blame his team last year, and is winning the MVP this year.

Jayden has been flawless when speaking. Perfect ambassador for the team.

What Nabers likes or doesn't like or his mom likes or doesn't like as to instagram posts, its not on Jayden.

Meaningless, only reason why I mentioned it is because I agree with them. Jayden has been given crap to work with as his supporting cast compared to his 2024 QB peers. Should he just suck it up and just deal with the fact that Peters isn't as hands on deck to help him compared to his peers from the QB class? Yes. Has Jayden? Yes.

As for Drake Maye. I was a big Drake guy before that draft, big Jayden guy, too. With Drake I liked him for various reason my pause about him was how he played against bigger competition. This season wasn't much of a test on that front. Playoffs should be a good test.

Back to Jayden, I think Peters will finally load him up this off season so his weapons will compare better to what his 2024 peers have. But if I was friends of him or his parent, yeah I'd be frustrated by it so i don't blame them for liking those posts. But Jayden hasn't said a word, he's not even hinted any discontent.

Sure Maye had it relatively easy this year, but you can only play the teams on your schedule. Discount it if you want, but he will probably win the MVP, and his numbers justify it.

Sure Jayden had tough luck with a difficult schedule and depleted roster, but he rarely played and didn’t play especially well when he did. The two most noteworthy plays of his season were the fumble in Chicago that started our downward spiral and dislocated elbow that completely ended any hope of pulling out of it.

In the end, both players are what their record says they are. I wish we weren’t in the business of making excuses for our guy and discounting the success of the guy we could have had, but this is the reality of it.

I will, thanks.

But Forcey struck me as a ridiculous last Sunday with all these odd analogies -- like hey imagine if they fired Rivera early, wouldn't have things ended up much better for this team. Yeah, sure. Maybe Rivera's 7-9 "miracle season" wasn't the same as the 12-5 go to the Championship game season.
The thing that irritates me the most about Forcey, Willingham, Rouhier, Russell, Doc Walker is they are not informed--they're ranters. They ignore demonstrated, verifiable facts to push their narrative. I remember the first time I heard Willingham on the radio--it was when Lamar Jackson was holding out with the Ravens and he was spouting off about "give me one good reason Jackson isn't here RIGHT NOW!" I thought of several immediately--cap space, lack of resources to acquire him, the Ravens would never trade him here, he would never sign here, and Dan Snyder. I had to look up who he was so I knew to avoid his idiocy, and he has only gotten more ridiculous: the one-sided beef with Tunsil during camp; Conerly looking "slow"

So that means Maye is his record in 2024. 3-9? Or was that a one off. By the way, he actually had meh stats to go along with that record.

This season, Maye had the perfect storm working for him. His team spent over 300 million in FA to help him and used high draft picks to boost the offense. And he had an historically easy schedule.

Lost season for Jayden. He played if I recall three games from start to finish. Had no Terry for most of it. No Noah. Had the third worst seperation in the NFL as to the WRs. The most drops. He was always coming off an injury for most of the season and just never had the chance to find a rythmn.

I looked it up last week Washington played almost half their schedule versus teams that were top 11 in defense (points allowed). NE was the opposite, almost every game was against bottom rung defenses.

But look if we want to look at everything glass half empty instead of glass half full, I can't really lol change anyone's perspective. If you want to see things from where its who gives a crap about injuries.

2024 was a terrible year for the Pats, 4-13. 2024 year was a great season for Washington. 2025 is the opposite. And there is context to it. Washington leads the league in injuries. NE's schedule is as soft as a marshmallow.

But hey screw that. Lets give Jayden no break for this season. And lets give Maye a complete break for 2024.

I get it from some fans point of view. The way I interpret some of the rants from fans are that they hurt. So they get emotional. The definition of being cynical is about being fearful. By being negative you protect yourself from being hurt because you are already negative so little chance of being disappointed.

But when some in the media piles on to that point of view, its gets a bit nauseating to me. Especially with all the contradictions. The biggest one for me is this:

So some of the same people who discount the success of the 2024 season as a product of an easy schedule and low injuries -- discount the value of the tougher schedule and the crazy number of injuries.

So in short the positive story is discounted because of context and the negative story deserves no context.

I’m going to cautiously assume that you were a Drake Maye advocate prior to the draft. You’re not alone in that, many were.

That said…why are you so unwilling to allow context to be a part of the calculus? Why are circumstances related to this year ignored or minimized as to Daniels struggles? Why do you, at the same time, ignore or minimize the factors that contributed to Maye’s performance this season. That seems a bit intellectually disassociative.

The schedule that Maye faced this year was not ‘relatively easy’. It was historically easy.

Honestly, I liked JJ McCarthy, so I’m no great prognosticator. Hopefully I’m wrong about Jayden Daniels too.

But yes, I did prefer Drake Maye over Jayden Daniels, mostly because Jayden reminded me too much of RG3 (Heisman winner, running QB, skinny frame, meddlesome family, etc.).

As to why I’m so pessimistic, it’s less to do with Jayden and more to do with my experience as a fan of this team. I got my hopes up with Gibbs and Sean Taylor in 2005, I got my hopes up with Shanny and RG3 in 2012, and I got my hopes up about DQ and Jayden in 2024 (to take the most prominent examples and ignore the many other lesser letdowns of the last three plus decades like generational talent Chase Young). I’m just so tired of the losing and completely demoralized by this shitty season (yet another where the stadium is half full of opposing fans, the punter is our only Pro Bowler, and our fans are rooting to lose for draft position). I’m over it, and I plan to remain cynical and pessimistic about this team until I see real sustained success. I wish I could just disassociate from it, but barring that, I can at least keep my expectations low.

But sure, if we look at the last two years as a whole and consider all the context, there is reason to think Maye is worse and Jayden is better than they have looked this year. I’m just not getting my hopes up about that. I have finally learned to expect the worst, but maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised for a change.

When I was a kid I got an ankle sprain because I tripped going down some stairs with a full book bag. In college I also sprained my ankle going down a staircase, this time because I was wildly drunk. In my late 20’s I once again sprained my ankle going down the stairs, because I slipped on ice I couldn’t see. Because I’m smart and have elite pattern recognition (remember, a miracle of the human mind) I stay away from all staircases now, as they will sprain my ankles also. Building doesn’t have an elevator? Won’t catch me in it. This makes sense and it dictates how I feel about all staircases forever.

Faithful Fan

Just constant negativity, over and over, on a constant loop. Yet, your’re faithful. 🤣

Not judging, we all have dealt with decades of sadness in our own ways. But there’s a mountain of evidence that things aren’t like they used to be. Stop and smell the roses, even if it’s raining.

To be faithful is to remain loyal, it has nothing to do with being positive. If I weren’t faithful then I would have given up on this hopeless team a long time ago.

You say things aren’t like they used to be, but this 4-12 seasons feels all too familiar. Our only Pro Bowl player is a punter. Our attendance is in the bottom third of the league, and almost half of that is opposing fans. Our one good season in a decade is followed by a spectacular collapse. We are finished playing meaningful football before Thanksgiving and fans are actively rooting to lose for draft position. How often in the past 35 years have we been in this position?

I understand we have a new owner, GM, and QB, and I know many have found hope in that. I did too after last year, but this year has brought me back to the reality that we are still one of the worst teams in football.

I will be here for what will probably be more misery next year, the same as I have been every year of my life. I have lost hope, but I have not lost faith.

You got a franchise QB. you are in the playoffs almost every year.

Your franchise QB goes down for more than half the season -- you aren't going to the playoffs.

And it happens.

If I felt the future was Mariota throwing to Robbie Chosen and Chris Moore with Joe Whitt running the defense without their starting edges and corners -- I'd be feeling doom and gloom, too.

But Jayden was healthy in college, healthy his rookie season. It didn't happen this season but its football -- stuff happens.

None of this brings me back to the Dan Snyder years. It's just normal football. Some years you are just going to have bad luck.

Kingsbury's head coaching candidacy is interesting despite Washington's struggles. The Commanders rank 21st in total offense -- ahead of Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh -- despite a poor supporting cast ravaged by injury. He's a potential fit in Tennessee, with a young quarterback in Cam Ward who fits his style of offense. Las Vegas, should that job open as many around the league expect, will take a hard look at improving its offense. Kingsbury has been selective but is also open to becoming a head coach again. So while he's not the shiniest name because of Washington's record, I could see him being in the mix again.

I doubt seriously that the league in general holds the same criticisms of this season’s results as the fans do. Just a guess though. 😇

And I also think we as a fan base need to stop treating every single unsuccessful decision or event like it requires change. Not every play call that doesn’t work warrants scrapping it from the playbook… and that thought process goes all the way up to wanting large scale changes based on 1 or 2 ‘missed’ draft picks.

Not any GM / HC / Coordinator / whatever makes ‘all’ the right calls… 2026 is important to rebound, I’ll agree with that mentality, but all 17 teams we play next year are trying to win too. Perfection is an unfair expectation

Yeah, its sort of an odd PTSD with some in the fan base and some within the local media.

A. A strong feeling as soon as setbacks happen that Dan Snyder and company weren't the real problem, they were the symptom but not the disease -- its just a really Washington Redskins-Commanders thing, expect misery

B. And then you got some who acknowledge Snyder was the problem, and say thankfully we got Harris now. Yet, they want Harris to act like Snyder -- that is, be impulsive and emotional and unforgiving

You are going to have bad picks. Bad signings. Bad games. I like Jayden a lot but he's going to have bad games. Success is never a straight upward line.

John Scheider was the toast of the NFL for years but he had two really crappy drafts. Seattle stayed patient. Now he's celebrated again.

Also, the down periods are learning periods for everyone. I disagreed with some of what Peters and Quinn did this off season. But I also don't think either is an idiot. I think there is some value in things going off the rails. Ironically, Peters has said the same soon after he was hired -- he learns more from mistakes than he does from success.

Clearly some people don't feel the same, but for me I want to see Quinn, Peters and Jayden on a revenge tour in 2026. I am fascinated to see how all three of them bounce back. And I think all three will. But will see.

He also lucked into Russell Wilson after giving Matt Flynn a huge contract, who was awful. Howie Roseman, the current Best-GM-in-the-League and who can do no wrong here? He was benched for CHIP KELLY for three years. Yes, THAT Chip Kelly, after a 4-12 season in which they fired Andy Reid. He was also the GM for the 2011 "Dream Team" that sputtered to an 8-8 finish.

Success is definitely not linear
