A Terry for Aiyuk swap would probably make some people happy right now. Too bad one of them is 3 years younger than the other or it would probably make sense.

I agree but I don’t think I’m he wants to stay. There was no way for him to predict Terry, Deebo and Brown were going to get hurt. If he came back, he was probably competing for a job with McCaffery which he might not have won.

The roster locks seemed to be:
McLaurin
deebo
Brown (after they re-signed him)
Lcacaffery

That leaves 1-2 spots open. We draft a guy (which we did) and all of a sudden Oz was competing for the 6th WR spot.

Should we have signed him over Brown? Maybe.

But absent that, we had a pretty stacked WR room from a numbers perspective. It isn’t surprising he wanted to go somewhere which might have less competition to make the roster.

Now, with all the injuries, that changes things. But he didn’t know that was going to happen when. He signed with the Bears.

I don't really get your logic here Voice. I think it took a bit in 2024 for Kliff to realize that Zacchaeus was a gamer and the clear #2 WR on the roster. There was no one close. Dyami Brown and Noah Brown were thought to be 'better' I believe, but despite getting only 6 starts Zacchaeus finished #2 and was having one of his best seasons in this offense.

Struggling to make the roster? We added Deebo. Yes. He is #2 and you could argue #1. But beyond that, who would Zacchaeus' competition be? Luke has improved, but his stats were going to improve when he's forced into a starting role. Zacchaeus has twice the number of receptions in a back up role already this year. Jaylin is a great returner and has made a few plays as a WR. But he's not anywhere near ready.

I think the team not re-signing Zaccheus was the biggest surprise of the offseason. I'm not trying to make him out to be more than he is. But he's better right now than anyone on this roster other than Terry and Deebo. I don't buy the 'he didn't want to be here' argument because there's no evidence of it. He wanted more money and I suspect had we matched the Bears offer he'd be on our roster. 28 years old. And we'd have a solid #3. Instead we kept perenially unavailable Noah Brown and a bunch of practice squaders.

I would be surprised if Peters disagreed with me right now.

Until 27. Next season is a contract year for him for all intents and purposes.

Agreed. Even he balled out this year, we should have been thinking along those lines.

Only problem is that we'll need to use our 1st rounder on a true EDGE.

Can we even trade that contract short term? I know it was in actuality a short extension gussied up to look bigger, but I imagine the guaranteed money he has coming next year would hit the books hard? Or am I wrong on that

They will need to get creative on the money. If we pay more of the contract then we might get a higher pick. I think that is how it would work. We need a cap guy to get all the skinny ironed out. But I do believe the contract details would be very much part of the deal.

Adam would probably do whatever he can do get a higher pick.

I don't see him having a big impact this year when he returns, regardless, AP is going to bring in some WR talent next year that will push TM down the depth chart. If that happens I can see TM getting very disgruntled making a trade very likely. Never thought I would think this way of TM but I believe he has shown his true colors.

Watched Mike Evans last night get hurt, felt bad for the guy, true team player for 12 years and battled back through injury this year. Contrast to TM was stark.

Imagine the cap space next year with McLaurin having played out his deal, pissed off and on IR.

He may have gone elsewhere but if they resigned him it probably would have been less than what Godwin and Adams just got. Adams is actually what McLaurin claims to be, a 30+ dude who still doesn't miss games.

I think that was his plan. He's going to learn that he probably should make his own decisions and not get influenced by the mindless horde of media and fans, coaches at times too.

I don’t know about all that. Terry has been a diva, and it has hurt the team, but we are still much better with him on the field. Despite it all, I still hope he comes back and plays so well that we can put this behind us.

I agree with the overall sentiment, but it’s not the just fans, media and coaches. He has to thread the needle, because there’s a locker room watching how all that goes down as well.

I think he did what was right at the time. No idea what transpired up to that point, but he got the deal done that would allow Terry to pretend he won while not severely handicapping the team.

Of course hindsight is 20/20 and we would have been better off holding fort.

I don’t think that was his plan. I think Terry ended up accepting essentially what he was offered in April or whenever it was, originally. Just gussied up to look prettier for him and his agent. It was basically a one year extension on top of the old deal, with some new money that was a little beyond reasonable, but not anywhere near what Terry demanded. I think AP did hold the line, so to speak. I don’t think he ever intended to just ignore Terry and let him play out his contract, and people saying now that they wished he’d done that are lying to themselves. People would have been apoplectic if that had been AP’s plan. The national media screeched to just give good soldier Terry whatever he wanted (dumb), but most informed fans just wanted a reasonable extension that didn’t screw the team, and that’s what happened.

The Terry issue is overblown because of how bad the rest of the roster has turned out to be. He will have a fine year next year, but beyond that it's unclear what the future holds.

I could see AP releasing Terry after 2027 and bringing in Aiyuk TBH.
