I DID say Buffalo didn't I ? To hear them, they've already are in the Super Bowl and playing the actual seasn is just a formality. That might be the single dumbest trade idea I've read for Terry...
We were in quarterback purgatory for so long that every offseason the qb thread became an echo chamber for 6 months.
We're not in quarterback purgatory anymore and it seems this thread has replaced that one.
Im not bothered by it, just an observation.I mean, it’s the one lingering concern. We upgraded the OL. Added weapons at WR and RB. Finally signed a pass rusher. Looks like we fixed the secondary.
It’s to some degree a relief that this is the one issue.
Also, with regards to the contract, I think I heard that Terry hasn’t missed a game in the last 3-4 years? Just give him most everything guaranteed, but on a shorter contract.
Agree. JD5 will show everyone quickly he can crush it with other dudes. Adding Gallup, Lane, and Brooks is more talent than is being recognized. Patrick Mahomes had no problem going to another 2 Super Bowls without Tyreek Hill winning one.I also don't think our offense will be in dire straits without him. We have weapons, very good weapons. Once the season starts, and if he sits out even one game, he and his agent will see first hand how that offense clicks without him.
Here's the thing: I don't think its a valid argument that this team is rife with NFL receiving talent that is on par with TMs skills. Good/great receivers get paid handsomely for a reason. This team is a much better team with Terry on it, and IMO to say otherwise is disingenuous. I dislike that way TM is handling this negotiation and I even question his expectations, but at the end of the day McLaurin brings skills that Gallup and McCaffrey just don't have. I think we all can agree to that.Agree. JD5 will show everyone quickly he can crush it with other dudes. Adding Gallup, Lane, and Brooks is more talent than is being recognized. There were football posts on ES?
Dude...that's not even a HaikuThere were football posts on ES?
Sure he is bringing great skills. But can Terry block like Tunsil (one of the best in league) or Connerly Jr. (arguably the best in the draft)? Tackles were radically upgraded giving JD5 more time. You cannot definitively state that our passing yards per game will reduce without Terry. I like Terry but let's not act like he's Jefferson, Chase, Lamb company. He's not. He is a very good receiver but not elite. He's only had 1 season breaking 1,100 yds receiving and barely eclipsed it. Without him a lot of guys get opportunities. Gallup has already had a season putting up over 1,100 yds. Terry is requesting elite money, and he's not elite. This is the problem. Offense will roll with or without Terry. Here's the thing: I don't think its a valid argument that this team is rife with NFL receiving talent that is on par with TMs skills. Hm, is that what is happening here, though?Sure he is bringing great skills. But can Terry block like Tunsil (one of the best in league) or Connerly Jr. (arguably the best in the draft)? Peters and the front office should not and will not give in to Terry because Pittsburgh overpaid Metcalf. Terry and his agent can sit and whine all day long not going to happen. This is what separates the great FOs from the others. Terry will either give in to AP's best offer, play out his current contract or sit out. His choice.Hm, is that what is happening here, though?
I think in Terry's camp, they are using the Metcalf comp a lot. Is Metcalf "elite?" I don't think so. I think they are probably really hanging their hat on one or two comps and kind of closing their ears and eyes on anything else.
I am not saying they are right to do so, but I don't think it's totally fair to say they are simply requesting "elite" money. It's a matter of perspective. I think they are wrong, but I can understand what is being said to an extent on some fronts.
I do agree with SIP, the nonsense tying "respect" to the dollar contract he is getting, that type of nonsense is not really ok, especially in the public sphere. That is just not good communication, at a minimum. I don't think there is a single team that can really do well with that kind of stuff being floated around, especially in public. This negotiation was made particularly awkward by some of those public comments. I don't know, if I'm AP, I may adjust my stance a bit to the downward side as a result of that, because it sets a tone for future negotiations (which is why it was particularly poorly done, in my opinion).
Whoa, it was Terry McLaurin who engineered several last minute game winning drives as a rookie while being cool as a cucumber and utterly unfazed, regardless of the stakes of the game?
I guess you learn something new every day. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(as with SIP, this is not a response to you personally, just to the video)
I agree, all I am saying is there are a few WRs out there who are good comps for Terry. Others have pointed out where the Metcalf comp has problems, and they are true, but the one thing you can say is a WR who I don't think anyone puts in that "elite" tier is getting used as a basis for comparison.Peters and the front office should not and will not give in to Terry because Pittsburgh overpaid Metcalf. I really agree with what you wrote here - I have been meaning to write something very similar. When I read some of the criticism of Terry's play, I sometimes wonder if people are watching the same games I am, if their memories are short, or if they just take specific plays for granted. It's definitely the case, JD -> many players won us OTHER games to, which is why, we all agree JD is on another level (I will take Jordan there, I don't put Kobe in the same breath). However, there are definite skills that Terry brings that the other guys just don't have. Terry's got serious skills. It's worthy of respect. The team agrees with that sentiment. The two parties just can't come to consensus on the number.I mean, he did win that 2nd Dallas game for us, on the last play, without Jayden. He straight up looked like a Moss/Jamar type player snatching that ball in the back of the end zone, over the Cowboys secondary, on a pass from Mariota. And his long catch and run in the 1st Dallas game might have done the same for us, if we had a better kicker. And Terry was, just generally great in high pressure moments all season. Not JD5 great, but, I feel like watching JD5 last year was like watching a Jordan or a Kobe. Anyway, I did think Terry was, "cool as a cucumber and unfazed" during the season last year, and helped win us some games.
Terry also got largely shut down by Quinyon mitchell. He is very good, not great, and will be 30 to start the season. Nobody really thinks that a 34yo receiver is going to be worth 30 million, even after 4 years of cap growth.
