Fines aren’t allowed to be waived anymore by clubs after the holdout has ended.

It’s simple arithmetic especially given he somehow came up with a bum ankle that to this point was unreported by player or agent.

Nothing like a convenient ‘injury’ to alter one’s strategy. 😉

Hopefully this is a precursor to something more tangible. 🤞
 
Trade him, it's the second time he's pulled this nonsense. He's not the face or the future of the franchise, and I'd just as soon move on. Being the best WR on our roster doesn't make him one of the best WRs in the league. He needs to understand that.

It’s true that they can’t be waived there is more than one way to deal with that if needed.
 
I get knocking some of the QBs like Terry had to deal with, like Heimlich who couldn't launch a turkey 20yards down field without letting it float like a balloon, but Howell had a cannon and God's worst play caller as an OC who did nothing but launch bombs to Terry all game.
 
Terry’s numbers last year at 29 I think showed what he is, a upper middle of the pack starting wide receiver.

He didn’t put up elite numbers and there were games we got shut down in the outside passing game.

If Terry was profiling Justin Jefferson in re impact he would have been signed 6 weeks ago.
 
I'm going to take the optimist's view of Terry coming to camp with the (I hope) faux injury.

I think this means Terry is chomping at the bit and doesn't want to lose install time. He wants to at least get his mental reps in. I also hope it means he is feeling encouraged that his hold out's end is in sight.

I'd be willing to wager a very very large sum of money (if i actually had it) that it's a convenient excuse not to participate. This is textbook 'holding in.'

I also don't think it's an accident that this is happening on the first practice that the fans are there. Terry knows the fanbase is going to vocally support him which will put a bit of pressure on the front office folks in attendance when they're seeing Terry interact with fans, be cheered for, and he's now in person. I also think this is somewhat convenient for Peters and co because they know Terry is a competitor and now watching the team practice not longer has the shade of 'out of sight out of mind' for Terry. He's now watching it in person, in the team facility around his boys, and in the locker room while guys are celebrating big plays from that days practice.

I imagine this will continue the development of the signing, having him there just closes the gap in the conversation. The old saying 'all that stands between us is space and opportunity'.. well they've now removed the 'space.'

His shenanigans are wearing thin. Luckily, our ownership group does not seem to be swayed and will not bend to his demands. The longer this goes on, the more in favor I am of Terry getting traded. At a certain point, it begins to affect team culture because players are having to answer questions about it daily.

I’ll take the glass half-full view. Terry is tired of flushing cash and pivoted his approach. Too bad for him that the ‘injury’ didn’t happen a week ago.

It's not villainy, it's just reality. Terry is holding out like he's a top 5 WR in the league and appears to want $30+ million a year in AAV. He is not worth that amount. AJ Brown is only making $31mill at 28 and Tee Higgins is making $28mill at 26 years old. Terry will be 30 this year and, while he may be productive this year, there is no guarantee that he will be in the next three.
 
I think Terry has finally realized his lack of leverage and is now there to try swaying fan support to force Adam to cave. Adam wont cave.

That's all speculation. I've seen a handful of 'reports' but in reality we don't know what the sticking point really is. My personal speculation is that the real sticking point is the guaranteed money or length of the term, and not necessarily the AAV. That's just window dressing, cash and guarantees is what actually matters. In addition to that, the market dictates his value, and if the market has inflated to $40M per year for the 'best' in the league, a top 15 wr can easily begin to justify making 80% of that value. That's negotiating 101.

It's also not really fair to be judging vs AJ brown as his contract was signed last offseason, the market has changed since then. Tee Higgins is also a no. 2 across from Ja'Marr Chase. It's wild speculation to try and figure out his actual value so comparing a clear cut, No. 1, focal point of the offense to the no. 2 WR is not really going to hold any water in a negotiation. On top of that Higgins has been playing with an MVP candidate for his entire NFL career.


Beyond all of that, I don't understand why anyone is holding it against Terry to try and maximize his final 'real' contract opportunity. This is it for him. He likely gets a couple deals after this one but this is the last one where he likely has any real leverage. To this point he's done nothing but put positive deposits in the bank for the team. He's been the ultimate team player... why is it wrong that he utilizes what little ability he has?

Also, this isn't a distraction on day 3 of camp any more than it was a distraction that Jayden was hanging out with JuJu Watkins at the USC game and then again at her birthday party. The other players in the locker room understand what's going on and they know the drill. I will freely admit that the tone can change as we approach actual game situations, but it's still very early in the process imho.

I think that means Terry blinked first. Usually these guys showing to camp but holding in is a step to a deal, it’s an extension of trust to some degree that both parties are operating in good faith and now get some face time and a reduction in the drama swirling

Usually when things are going badly, guys leave entirely (see Trey Hendrickson). This is an improvement imo. I would expect Terry to speak more positively next time a mic is in his face

Honestly, it's a little bit embarrassing. You can support Adam Peter's vision for this team and smart football business decisions without getting weird about it. This is a normal, big-boy team NFL problem. They'll either get a deal done and it'll be all smiles, or they wont and he'll still go out there and be the number one offensive weapon by far (as much fun as I have fantasizing about UFDA's and 2nd year breakouts, it's also helpful to live in reality).

I find the venom side of it as embarrassing as the twitter fans who want to immediately rake the front office over the coals after an NFC title game appearance. The front office and Terry McClaurin have both earned grace, which isn't asking for much. The uncomfortable news cycle and the silence make people wanna fill that space with thoughts when really the important parties involved don't sweat it nearly as much.
