The All Things Terry Thread

Yeah - I agree. We also may get a boost from Sinnott and McCaffrey if they indeed do progress in season 2, and Jaylin Lane looks like a great pickup. Another big factor that seldom gets talked about - Austin Ekeler is still a huge weapon. With the drafting (and how he has apparently looked in practices so far) of Jacory Croskey-Merritt), they can use Ekeler more as a 3rd down/relief back. He is still one of the best pass-catching backs in the NFL if we can keep him on the field.

It's impossible to argue that we wouldn't miss McLaurin, he's been our most productive offensive player for years. But I don't think the team's success in 2025 necessarily hinges on whether he's on the field or not.
Yeah totally agree & especially your Ekeler comment - he is indeed a weapon. I just hope he can stay healthy, as you say. He seems to not get mentioned much for some reason, but the guy is a total baller.

As things stand, I think we probably lose one or two more games without Terry. It's not just that he has been our most productive receiver, but that he has been clutch and so good at making the tough catch or winning the contested ball. Now, I can imagine with Jayden's accuracy the need to win the 50/50 balls and make impossible catches will become less, but even last year, Terry bailed the QB out with some catches that a lot of receivers just can't make.

I put Ekeler in the same category as I do Ertz. He's not going to scare a defense, but he is going to make plays. Probably Byner is a better comp. Ekeler doesn't seem to have much homerun ability, but he'll truck you and he is good at everything. Good receiver. Good blocker. Good runer.

I think guys like Ekeler and Ertz are reasons why I thought we really needed to draft a weapon in the draft. Terry was the only player we had who had the potential to scare defenses and Terry is fast, but not take the roof off fast. Potentially, we got two true speed guys with Bill and Lane. If they prove they can play football that's going to be exciting.

I actually think he still does scare defenses. But he's definitely not as electric as he used to be. I mentioned him primarily because he is such an effective pass catcher out of the backfield.

I think one of the things McLaurin may be 'grumpy' about is that we have made some significant additions to the WR corps this offseason and he's concerned about not being the focus of the offense as he nears the end of his 2nd contract. McLaurin has never been a prolific pass catcher to begin with so adding a guy like Deebo and drafting a talented youngster, and possibly having Sinnott and/or McCaffrey step up, he may see those things as putting him at risk of looking statistically a lot less productive, which is why he wants a big new contract now. 2025 may not set him up for the kind of payday he's looking for if he has what could be perceived as a 'down' year.

Wake up and do the right thing Terry.

Then he's forgetting everything Kenny Rogers taught us: You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run. You never count your money, when you're sitting at the table, there'll be time enough for counting, when the dealings done.
Great song but now it's stuck in my head.

I believe that Deebo will absolutely, positively put some fear into opposing defenses. He would me if facing him.

The thing is, he is under contract which will pay him $20m this year including bonuses.

So, unlike the last time when he was playing on a rookie deal he couldn't negotiate (that's set by the CBA), he's now playing the final year of an agreement he negotiated and signed. And is paying him $20m.

And now he’s refusing to practice, causing drama, and holding out… when he’s contractually obligated to be there… because he’s mad he’s not getting insane money in a new deal right now.

For all the fans that gush over how awesome a guy he is (and conversely how crappy the fans/team are for how they’re “treating him) he sees leverage in being Daniel’s best target while competing to make a Super Bowl, going into his second year and is simply trying to exploit it.

All this while being contractually obligated to be there and play/practice for the team - a contract he negotiated and signed.

Hes done a good job setting this narrative that he’s a great guy and the team is doing wrong by him, I guess that’s easy though when the other side isn’t doing anything publicly.

But the reality is he’s crapping all over the team. If Peter’s traded him for a sack of footballs I wouldnt be upset. We wanted culture change. And this is a bad look from terry.

Tshile, Bram Weinstein had this take on his most recent show. Talked about how both sides are at fault for letting it drag on this long but ultimately placed the blame at TMs feet. Pretty good listen, wish I knew how to link it. Dove into how TM is never getting what he has here....opportunity for SB, team culture, fan love and special status, eventual ring of fame etc.

I really wonder if the team is regretting letting Terry set the narrative. The only thing they’ve really leaked in the last 2 years was the info to Schefter.

They’re taking the high road. Which I appreciate, but I’m not sure they don’t regret a little bit not getting in front of the story a little bit.

I’m sure they regret allowing Terry to come in on PUP. If he wants to hold in, they should have forced him to be active. The PUP opens up the opportunity for him to play injured and start the year on PUP or IR and collect a paycheck. If they made him active, and he refused to play, they can argue his contract should toll at the end of the year.

The whole thing is a mess.

I don’t think they should trade him, but the one scenario I have heard which makes sense is Terry for Tyreek Hill straight up. Hill is apparently grumpy in Miami, Terry is grumpy here, swap them and move on.

But absent that, I don’t think Peters is going to trade Terry.

I don’t often disagree with Bram entirely, but I really disagreed with his take on yesterday’s show.

He suggested the team should have leaked stuff earlier, which I don’t agree with, and he basically said both sides need to get into a room and fix it.

I’m sure they have tried. But candidly, the way negotiations work, if 2 parties are entirely st odds over the the terms, the team with the less leverage has to move first to the middle to convince the party with more leverage it should move.

So it’s up to Terry’s side to go to the team with additional options or reduction of the ask.

If two parties are just miles apart, getting into a room and working it out can’t happen.

Somebody has to move first. That could be Terry’s side saying they want to focus on guarantees over the next 2 years over long term commitment, it could be length of deal, whatever. But they need to give the team something to react to.

Being urealistic, I say we trade McLaurin and Miller for CeeDee and Parsons.

Dallas can sweeten the pot with a second for forcing us to take on so much salary.

Here's a side-by-side comparison. Yes - Tyreek is a year older and has more wear and tear on him - but statistically he is a superior WR. I don't see a one for one straight up swap being something Miami would agree to. We would have to throw in other players or a pick.

the danger with Tyreek is I think he's strictly a speed merchant. If his decline last year was age-based, he's going to fall fast. From a distance, he also seems like a difficult personality. Kansas City and Miami look they both grew tired of him.

I don’t think the team really needs to get out in front. Terry is doing enough all by his lonesome.
