The 2026 Free Agency Thread

I don't really want us to sign him either. But that doesn't alter the fact that he would immediately be the best TE on the roster.
Not sure that's true. For one thing, cleared to play doesn't mean 100%. So it's very possible that Ertz is even slower now. Second, if this was Kliff's system, I wouldn't argue with you. I don't know if Ertz is a great fit for the Johnson/Blough scheme. Do we really have confidence that Ertz is capable of being the #2 target anymore? After all, he wasn't that great last year pre-injury. I suspect he still knows how to find a hole in the zone better than anyone else on the team but that's his whole game at this point in his career.

We don't know ANYTHING about the Blough scheme. We don't know what it will be, we don't know how the players we have will do in it, it's a total open question across the entire roster. I'm thinking the 15 year vet might be better able to adapt than most though with all of that experience. I don't like some of the mental mistakes we've seen from Ertz, and honestly at some point, it's time to give your younger players a chance and find out if they are legit NFL talents. But Ertz at his worst would still be at least our #2 TE, and we are all assuming Chig will be a huge addition, but it is an assumption at this point.

All caps, Boone?

We do know a few things unless we've been lied to.

We know it's going to have more motion.
We know it's going to be less reliant on hurry up.
We know Daniels will be under center more.

So, we don't know a ton (and I'm glad we don't. believe Blough needs the advantage of surprise as he tries to gain his sea legs) but we do know some things.

It warrants all caps. We know nothing. We haven't seen one play in live action against a real opponent.

And obviously, I include myself in 'we know NOTHING'.

I hope that the two new coordinators prove to be all of that and a bag of chips. But I have had the blind trust beaten out of me over the years. If Dan Quinn and Peters were deserving of absolute trust, we wouldn't have had to replace both of their hand-picked coordinators after just 2 seasons. I am very skeptical and I feel like it's reasonable to be skeptical. That doesn't mean I don't hope we are shockingly good on both sides of the ball and that the coordinator changes prove to be genius. I absolutely do. But I think Quinn and Peters have a lot to prove.

My oldest just texted me about it, so it must be true... 🤣

I got grief for making this point about the Chig signing. i like Standig, he was on Sheehan recently and was asked do you think Diggs signs here or not -- his answer was no. Keim has been pounding the table that this signing is likely.
