Been a lurker here for a while (and diehard skins fan for 40 years) and I shudder to even ask this question, but why would Diggs even WANT to come here over the Chiefs? He’s clearly chasing a ring as he knows his time is short. Who gives him the best odds? Does he take less money to come to the chiefs than whatever we may pay him?

This isn’t to say I don’t want Diggs. I do. He’d be an immediate contributor. But if he signs with the chiefs and then folks say “we missed again” or we “we didn’t pay him enough”, are missing the point with some of these veteran players. He wants to win.

Vegas has the chiefs at much better odds to win more games and therefore get to the Super Bowl over us. Who would you rather have throwing the ball to you? Mahomes or Jayden? If you were in Diggs shoes, what would you want?

I think theres a lot of factors and thats just one of them.

First off a contender like the chiefs has to want him.

Second he'd probably have to take a considerable discount if he's limiting his choices to contenders only and coming off a thousand yard season it may be a tad premature to start taking discounts to chase a ring.

And despite last years results if he was chasing a ring the patriots were an odd choice, before the season started they were extreme longshots to win the superbowl.

If the chiefs want him and they're willing to pay at least somewhere near market value that would be the logical choice but we offer plenty of enticing reasons for him to come here as well.

Nice 1st post 👊🏼

The interesting thing is that if we look at the Chiefs trendline over the last three years it has been trending down. Even the year of their last Super Bowl win it felt like every game they were struggling and just willed themselves to a win. Last year, everything fell apart. Now, for them, does that signal that their dynasty needs a true rebuild or was it an off year.

Clearly though, they are better reputationally than we are and chances are if the contracts are the same most players would choose the Chiefs. That said, I do find it interesting the way Diggs talked about this team. It sounded like he was trying to sell the team on him and this was his desired location.

why would Diggs even WANT to come here over the Chiefs

One possible advantage Washington might have is Diggs is from this area (Gaithersburg, Maryland), and attended the University of Maryland.

Of course, that puts him on the Ravens radar too, but we'll see how it goes.

Yeah that was Breer saying he'd be a good fit with the Chiefs and Commanders, not that he knows both teams chase him.

I agree if both teams chase him, and both offer equal money, he's likely to go with the Chiefs, but we aren't at that place.

Listening to Keim among others, I don't get the sense yet that there is any tell that the team plans to pursue Diggs. I guess will see. The only thing that seems certain is they chase Aiyuk.

I wonder if the FO would take Diggs "off the board" for character concerns. Not saying that's the case, or speculating on whether Diggs would exceed the acceptable threshold, but curious what Peters' MO is on that front. The closest thing we've seen is the McManus situation which was a bit different. I mention because from an on-field standpoint, this is a no-brainer for where the roster is.

The problem is we are relying on potential. The issue with that strategy is non-existent if that potential is realized. But previous sample size says that it probably doesn’t work out. At least well enough that it covers all holes.

Here are the positives and negatives of each receiver:

Terry:
Mr. Reliable. Has made due with far less around him and has been the rock of this franchise through all of the BS. Can play every position.

Not getting younger, been banged up, large contract going into next year (and this team doesn’t like paying those)

Williams:
Versatile, polished route running rookie who has produced at a fairly high level at a P4 program. Is a slot but can play Z.

He’s a rookie, will have some growing pains, if he plays Z I don’t believe he’s in his BEST position but he will be fine.

Burks:
Size, potential, bursts of brilliance. Has all the talent you can ask for.

Has not at all lived up to his pre draft hype. It’s a pattern at this point that he needs to break.

Lane:
Speed, return ability, vertical threat.

Young, needs to develop, hasn’t shown ability to be a huge difference maker.

McCaffrey:
Pedigree, can be a steady receiver if he gets in a rhythm. Has the size to play X/Z and ability to be a slot.

Doesn’t really have a natural position at the moment. Production well under what you want from him.

Jefferson:
Journeyman veteran presence that is consistent and knows the game and understands his role.

Hasn’t shown that he is a reliable 2/3 guy and is more of a back end of the group slot guy, which we have an abundance of.

Dyami:
Rapport with Jayden, good deep ball receiver, doesn’t shrink in big moments.

Despite how much we love him for what he helped us do in ‘24 in the playoffs, he hasn’t really ever had much regular season success.

Chig:
Good athlete, YAC threat, played in a bad situation.

Despite the hype, and YAC ability, his production is in line with Ertz. Which, to be honest, isn’t a bad thing. I just worry that we as fans are looking for him to be a major difference maker - and he may be - but he hasn’t done that yet. I think he’s going to be really good for us, and an upgrade. But he still needs to do it

Sinnott:
Who knows

Who knows

Bates:
Blocker

Blocker

Aside from Terry, we don’t have anyone besides Chig who has averaged 500+ over a 17 game average. And he’s barely there.

Looking at statistics, career yards per 17 games:

Terry: 1106
Chig: 504
Jefferson: 403
Burks: 403
Lane: 255
McCaffrey: 243
Brown: 223
Bates: 144
Sinnott: 73

We all count Jefferson out, but career wise he’s the tied for third with Burks best per 17 game receiver on the roster.

And if all of these guys MEET their per 17 average that is 3,354 yards. And keep in mind not all of these guys are going to be on the roster.

So, accounting for some of those yards to not be met and others to be added from better years, other players, etc… figure about 3k yards.

That means we need at minimum 1k receiving from our backs for Jayden to get to 4k.

And, to get back to 2024 levels of success, figure we need to account for half of JD’s roughly 900 rush yards from elsewhere (rushing, receiving, etc) we just don’t have enough on paper.

Some of these guys are going to have to BIG time over produce their 17 game average.

Thats playing with a LOT of hope.

Btw, Diggs per 17 is 1215. Aiyuk is 1061. Jauan Jennings is 585.
To take this a step further...
Chig is not a replacement for Ertz... he is more of a replacement for Debo. What made Ertz effective is his height and hands... and is why he was such a important sec blanket for JD at 6'5
Chigs hands are so so.. and you cant fix height. This dumb FO doesnt understand this.. instead of bringing in another legit tall TE.. they're going with Chig and a bunch of wanabees. Red zone production will suffer
At this time we have one of the worst Receiving rooms in the NFL.. they should sign Diggs and Ayuk
.. and they didn't want to pay the best pure RB on this team and replaced him with a bunch of average vets... that bring very little dynamic ability. Peters must really hate this job

Rodriguez is now the best pure RB? Really?

Denver with a top 3 O line, top 2 defense. #2 in yards, #1 in sacks.
That's not the point I was making, but glad to see you acknowledge there is more to the team than WR2. I knew I'd get through to you eventually 🤣

More seriously, if LMC can come in and give us 2 splash plays a game, on average, say 30-35 receptions at 15.5 ypc? I don't think that's unrealistic and a solid 3rd receiver, assuming McLaurin gets the 10 targets a game, Konk and Williams will most likely get the majority of the 2nd and 3rd most targets.

Lane, I think we agree, was used poorly last year. PFR has his ADOT at 13.3. I'd love to see him used more to his strengths you pointed out. But there were still flashes deep--he put Jennings of the Bears, I think, in an absolute blender on one route. There's flashes, so it's not like I'm hoping for Hinton or Jacory Jones to break out.

I see the RB room as upgraded. White adds a dimention we lacked without once Ekeler went down. It is possible the best RB on the team last year was McNichol. He is on the roster but will difficulty making the cuts.

You do bring up a valid point that no one really replaced Ertz because he was able to create enough separation due to his size and that assisted in red zone situations. However players like Chi and White will separate with speed and agility. We have a different and improved weaponry that should work well with the new look offense. And yes, we still need a WR2

You don't seem to think some people understand your point. I think I do, you tell me if I don't. I'll do it the way you seem to make the point, tell me if I am off. I'll do a heavy handed version of it.

It's that people are missing the macro big picture, its about everything combined. People are being short sighted for zoning in on one thing when everything else looks so much better and the one thing that people are concerned about also has plenty of reasons to work, so people should chill.

A. Peters spent a zillion dollars on the defense. Don't you understand how much that above all helps Jayden?

B. The O line will protect Jayden, is a major part of the offense, and people are sleeping on it. And those whining about Peters not doing enough on offense oddly give him no credit for it.

C. They did actually add weapons for him. If they add more great, but I don't understand the consternation here.

Now lets take on all the whining about WR specifically.

A. Terry is back. they drafted a WR. That alone improves the unit dramatically,

B. And the key point is this. Some of the other teams you guys tout as doing it better at WR, actually played with wildcard young WR type options and it played out for them. Why don't you guys trust the same for dudes like Lane and McCaffrey?

C. Rashaad White can be a stud, why are you sleeping on him. He's a younger Ekeler. Hello, guys do you remember 2024 and how that worked?

D. Chig is so dynamic, its like having another WR.

So in short, Peters built a great O line, overhauled the defense. Gave Jayden, Chig and White. We drafted probably a young WR stud. Yet you aren't satisfied? And you guys who are crapping on, Lane and McCaffrey, it's impatient and especially with Lane factor that Kliff didn't use him properly so my gut is he can really take it up a notch and be that WR.

This close or am I off?

In 2025 (and if we are honest 2024) Ertz was an outlet more than a receiving threat. He was savvy and knew how to break a zone especially because the defense was scared to death of Daniels running, but it is also true that Ertz was helpless after the catch for the most part and couldn't really beat match up coverage. So replacing him with an equally productive tight end that actually can scare a defense a little is a plus. Again, Ertz was great at finding holes in zones and being that outlet, chain mover and that is a wonderful thing to have. Every team needs a reliable possession receiver, but part of the reason he was open so often was because defenses just didn't think he could hurt them.

More or less, but more dramatic than I think I was. I'd still like to add Diggs. But I don't think I'd call it whining. Whining is being overly pessimistic. You have rational arguments, and they have merit. We just see things differently right now.

Things will change when we have actual performance to discuss in camps etc.

Feels like they have almost opposite strengths.

A. Ertz 3rd down and red zone threat-TDs.

B. Chig -- YAC-dynamic, hasn't been a TD guy.

As for who will be Jayden's target for TDs. Guessing Terry. Not sure he has another obvious one. Aiyuk later in his career, judging by TDs, a decent red zone-TD target.

How soon we all forget Trent Scott!!!

Maybe Luke who is 6' 2" and could have an easier time getting separation with shorter developing red zone routes.
