More or less. I'd still like to add Diggs.
OK, lol, so I understand your point. Where I disagree.
On giving Peters a pass for the roster, I think people already are. He’s getting a lot of credit for the O-line and defense, even though we don’t actually know if those units are fixed. You’ve got some mixed signals —PFF had the line around 13th, NFL.com closer to the mid-20s, and even guys like Jay Gruden questioning Conerly. Logan Paulsen is projecting growth, but admitted he saw him as average at best during the season. Center is still a total unknown. On defense, some national pundits still think it’s going to struggle. But I among others think the naysayers are wrong.
That said, I’m giving Peters the benefit of the doubt—I’m assuming Conerly hits, the line gels, and the defense improves because of volume additions. And that’s faith, not proof. He hasn’t earned a victory lap on those units yet, and people are already giving him one, including myself. So lol, I think we are giving him plenty of faith some earned, some unearned at this point.
So the question becomes: how many more assumptions are we stacking on top of that?
At running back, I liked Croskey-Merritt in that draft and was high on Rachaad White too here in FA—but that room to me is fine, not special. It’s not moving the needle in a big way for me. I know you think both are studs are close enough. I don't. Both solid. But you never know. And I don't think I am that unusual. I was listening to multiple dudes who covered White in Tampa as an example, who talked about him as solid, not special. He got paid like what 1.5 million?
At receiver, I like Antonio Williams more than anyone here predraft, but he hasn’t played a snap. Banking on him as your WR2 right away—without first-round pedigree—is a leap. In a rebuild year, sure, take that gamble. But if you believe this team can actually contend, that’s a different standard.
And I don’t think the team itself views McCaffrey or Lane as breakout guys this year. Unless I am missing a segment or two, that doesn’t line up with what the beat writers are hearing, and more importantly, it doesn’t match their actions—pursuing other receivers and drafting another at the same spot they play.
As for Lane, I watched a lot of his Virginia Tech tape and was surprised they didn’t use him more on quick-hitting plays and YAC opportunities here as I pointed out. But taking screens for YAC, isn't high-end playmaking. He’s very useful—very good returner, solid depth, maybe a WR4.
But to sum it up, I think Peters is getting a lot of credit for moves that still require projection. There’s a limit to that—some of us just aren’t ready to give him a full victory lap or celebrate every decision as a win. I’m not saying he’s done a bad job, just that not everything deserves a “nailed it” stamp yet. And as it stands, I don’t see this roster—especially the current WR group—as Super Bowl caliber.
