I meant, why should they worry… as in they ignore us because they apparently have nothing to worry about considering we “only” swept them.

The NYG, overrated today, overrated yesterday, overrated tomorrow.

Deebo: 727 yards, 5 TDs

McCaffrey: 203 yards, 2 TDs
Lane: 225 yards, 0 TDs
Burks: 130 yards, 1 TD

The three of them combined for 558 yards and 3 TDs. So combined, they were ~1/3 of Deebo's production.

While they might be competing for snaps, Deebo is far and away better than any of the other three. At least, he was last year. And it's not even remotely close.

The chances of one of them beating him out isn't absolutely terrible. In my "run into celebrity at Safeway" scale, I think it would be about akin to running into my next door neighbor at Safeway. Not very likely, there are a lot of people who go to the safeway. But also not unreasonable. I think I run into my neighbor maybe once every couple of years at the store.

not saying they are #2s but, McCaffrey got hurt early. lane is a rookie. burks came into the team mid-season. Deebo's numbers don't look bad, but so much of his yards were stuff behind, at, or just beyond the line of scrimmage that our lack of a downfield threat was compounded by how we utilized Deebo. if we sign Deebo it has to be in conjunction with another signing, imo. if it's just Deebo...forget it. I don't want him.
 
I don’t get why some are somewhat selling White. He had 1500 yards and 9 touchdowns in 23. Then he had to share touches with Bucky. I’ll take 1500 and 9. For 2 million? Hell yeah.

This is easily the best value maybe in all of free agency so far. Extremely underrated move imo. I don’t think we get this player, at this valuation, without Jayden. I think he could’ve definitely made more money elsewhere.

I really think that the reason we haven't signed a WR is that the WR was thin. It feels like it was Pierce and Doubs and then scraps. As hungry as Peters should be to fill out a WR room (unless he secretly really believes all three of Lane, McCaffrey and Burks are about to light it up) we would have gotten somebody, but I don't think Peters wants the baggage of signing a meh receiver big time money. In this go of free agency, he's trying to spend that kind of money on players he wants to keep around for a few years. Maybe he doesn't see Jennings or Austin as players to build around?

I’m actually quite happy Pierce saved us from ourselves and to a lesser extent Doubs too. Clearly Peters is trying to add to the room, but as you noted, it was slim pickings. The WR market will almost always be thin though. It’s basically a must draft position at this point if you want one of your own.

I don’t think we should be building around Aiyuk either but it seems inevitable at this point. To be clear, I’m good with bringing in Aiyuk and hoping for the best, just not at the expense of adding the true cornerstone to the room.

Whether it’s 26 or 27 though, it’s going to happen.
 
Folks keep talking about ‘a WR’ to eventually replace McLaurin. The fact that the team may move on from Terry sooner rather than later means we need TWO top tier WRs. It’s possible IF Aiyuk lands in DC (which is not a certainty) and if he gets his head right, he could be one of them but we need two starting caliber guys.

Not having a top tier WR group is going to stunt Jayden’s growth and limit our offense and it needs to be addressed over the next 2 seasons in a big way.

Full agree. I believe the problem will
Be fully solved going into ‘27 at worse.
 
If they are close to a deal I’m sure it’s either $$ or contract length that is the sticking point
 
Jennings will be 29 so that could cut either way on the years, but if I had to guess, we probably want a 2 year deal and Jennings might want a 3 or 4 year deal.
 
I feel strangely confident we get Jennings only because we are probably the most WR-desperate team in the league right now and we have the money to outbid others if that’s what it takes. This is assuming he is their current top target.

I don't know that I buy into this completely, John.

Granted, the league has changed a lot in 25 years but Brady won his first SB in 2002 with Troy Brown, David Wiggens, and JR Redmond.
He won his second SB in 2004 with Deion Branch, Troy Brown, and David Givens.
HIs came a year later with the same Branch, Brown, and Givens combo.

In fact, one can argue that Brady never won a SB with more than average to slightly above average WR corp.

Would things be easier with great talent at WR? Sure. Will it stunt Daniels' growth to not have top tier talent at WR? I think that is a stretch.
