No. But is that any reason to limit our enthusiasm about the player in front of us?

Same deal with Chenal.

He's volumes better than any linebacker we have had on this roster in the 2020's.

It's also a bonus that he has experience WINNING in the NFL.

If they are gonna drag their feet on Jennings/Okonkwo/White/safeties (Brisker?) can they at least tender CRod to tide us over? Maybe get Jacob Martin resigned?

Those 2 feel like low hangingish fruit. Esp the CRod one.

I am high on him, but I understand your point. I saw a poster say it won't be like Bobby Wagner in coverage. Chenal is fast (4.53 at the combine), but I think people are maybe misunderstanding him. He is a bit like a Bobby Wagner in that he is arun stopper first. Fast doesn't mean you can leave him one on one with a RB on a choice route for example. His short area quickness and agility wouldn't hold up. But he is a physical LB who will take on blockers in the hole and who is fine if Guards or Tight Ends climb up to him. He has a punch and can disengage. He is less dependent on the D-Line protecting him. He has that linear side line to sideline speed and his speed can be useful in defending the seam in coverage, but he is very much a run first defender in my mind. Much like Wagner. In 2 out of the last 3 years he has a 90+ PFF run grade and his best ever coverage grade was 72.

Point of note the 72.2 is THIS past year. It's not like he's some 10 year vet. He played 4 years. And the narrative I've read during the season was he improved in coverage and was good at it. I haven't watched him since college. But I am stoked for this one even more than Oweh so I'll watch some of his games from last year.

Well, at #7 it appears the two best players that may be available are Downs and Tate, the two positions we haven't addressed so far.

I would imagine the team is expecting one skill position is going to filled with that pick.

I believe he has primarily been an offball LB, but at 250 pounds he probably (not having studied him) has the traits to be a hybrid. Like I think he could probably set an edge against a Tackle on first down from an on ball position.

We also need a prime safety and a wide receiver 2.

I would think in the post-draft free agent period we can pick up a veteran linebacker that can help us. Along with RB, LB tends to be the position with the most available FA each year.

This looks like one of the 1 year at $5M type of deals to be had in late April, early May to help round out the roster.

He runs 7-man spacing. It’s not a 4-3 or a 3-4. It’s a gap scheme that employs a player for each gap. 7-man spacing means they have 7 players responsible for 7-gaps up front.

The personnel is fairly irrelevant as it pertains to what player positions are on the field. Could have 5 DL, 2 DL, 1 DL, 6 DL. Could be a 4-2 with a safety roll. The scheme is very diverse.

I like both. Chenal is a bit more personal with me because he was one of my guys in that draft. And was the one I wanted at LB for this team. I loved Lloyd, too. But I figure they can't swing for the top player on the market at every spot and to me Chenal has great potential.

From what I recall about him, yeah he majors in stopping the run, but also good blitzer, and really good sideline to slideline (lateral quickness which Bobby right now doesn'[t have any more) range both against the pass and the run in the flat.

He's not Lloyd in the passing game. But he should be at least decent and a sizeable improvement over Wagner. But he at Wisconsin was a fun watch -- big time physical who can both shed and blow up blocks.

Yeah, let's not forget WASHINGTON has to start making draft picks like Chenal in Rounds 3 and 4.
