The 2026 Free Agency Thread

You are quite the kool aid drinker amigo. And always seem to clash with my takes, but it’s whatever though. At the end of the day, Peters hasn’t exactly inspired confidence and belief in his time here to warrant any type of good faith. We seemingly have just as many holes on this roster as we did since he arrived. Is that not alarming to you?
SiP isn't wrong. You have to pay the top price that the player demands, or you don't and get nothing. I have complained as loudly as anyone; like you, I think it reflects poorly that they've shot for the moon, missed, and then not really followed up on the positions they needed to shoot for. But it's harsh to criticize them for offering big money when they miss, which you specifically call out for Phillips. Big money is the only way to shoot at all.

Far from a kool aide drinker. I'd hazard a guess that I have put more content trashing Peters than anyone here. And got some pushback on it.

But i am just not spray painting attacks on him on everything. So on the things I don't believe he deserves criticism on or more on point I just don't know yet where I need to see more of the movie I'll wait it out and see the plan unfold first.

Thinking about it, I think the only things I've defended Peters on and its actually a mix bag defense so nothing that hardcore are:

A. The Biadaz release. I've just heard different narratives about why it happened. I got zero problem with the narrative. Now will the narrative play out as they see it? I got no clue. But I am willing to see it play out before judging it. If people want to judge it now. That's cool. I am just explaining why for me its a TBD.

B. The 2024 draft IMO wasn't awful IMO but so so and there is some TBD aspect to it. I give it a C not an F. So lol that's nothing hardcore.

C. With this FA, I am good with there being limits to how far they'd go to chase a player. As long as on the aggregate, they make enough needle moving moves. And for FA in general, I am giving them more than 24 hours to judge their actions. I want to see everything.

For those who remember my ES posting. I was consistent on this. I let the whole Rivera off season play out. All of it including the draft. And once the draft was over, I was easily one of the top 5 most obnoxious-relentless critics of Rivera.

In this last summer, I was one of the more pessimistic people here about what happend both as personel and what Quinn did in camp. Far from a kool-aid drinker. Easier to say I am the opposite of that. But I am not jumping on them on day 1 of FA. Too early for that IMO.

As for other disagreements with you, only one I can think of is you really really really don't like Carnell Tate and really really want to say it a lot on the draft thread. I really really really like Carnell Tate and say so plenty on the draft thread. So that constant interaction I gather makes you feel like we are at odds.

It just seems like Peters is throwing darts at a board and hoping something sticks. For a team that has so many holes, I just didn’t anticipate seeing teams like the Raiders more active than us. It just seems like we stumbled out of the gates a bit when we’ve known for a long time now what we need. Hopefully today brings us those players. I want to see us win at the end of the day.

I think my issue isn’t so much stuff like missing on Pierce and Shaheed, who stayed with their own teams. But, we couldn’t muster a late round pick swap for 28 year old Michael Pittman?

I’m ready to trade for the Bears’ GM, I think.

I am with you on that. I mentioned weeks ago here what if Pittman isn't relased and could be had in a trade -- I got push back that no team would take that salary on so he'd be released. But lol here we are....

I'm not ready to jump yet, but I'm baffled by the ZERO offensive signings. Still time to change my mind Adam, but you best get going...

but wait..... TUNSIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you think so don't go over to the Roster Reconstruction thread, over there folks seem to think that Kinlaw and Payne make a nice inside tandem for the team going forward.
No. Just no. Absolutely don’t go over to that thread.

It will save you seeing opinions like there are vet minimum type players walking the street that are better than Kinlaw.

That's not kool aid drinking, it's judging each move individually. I likely would have made a bit of a face if we got Pierce for $30mil but I also don't think we should be acting like anybody should feel 'honored' by our presence enough to come here no matter what. It's not always about the money, and we're not a premium destination, so over-spending on some free agents is the only way to get them in your building. That doesn't mean i'm going to be ok going out and blowing dumb money, but it's the truth. I'm glad we weren't up in the same area with Linderbaum. Do you want to be critical about the moving on from Biadasz? Sure that's fine, but that also shouldn't mean we hinder ourselves in the future by grossly overspending on a replacement.

Peters is not immune from criticism, but he's also not an abject failure either. I certainly don't think he's failed enough to this point to look at every move he makes with immediate cynicism. Yes we still have a bunch of holes, but there's a very real conversation about the reasoning behind it that gets glossed over. We've had to turn over the roster 3 times now. There's a method to it if we're paying attention. He's always said 'build through the draft and supplement free agency'. That's what he's doing. He's churning these short term veteran deals to fill the gaps while he drafts players, and finds long term free agents to invest in. He could have given more players 'longer' deals last off season to lessen some of that burden this year, but he didnt want to be handcuffed to players that he didn't think actually had long term value. The right guys aren't just walking the street waiting for someone to come pick them up. The number of actual value free agents isn't anywhere near where people want to believe it is. There's not a pool of Pro Bowl / All Pro level players just available to sign. When they do come available, they demand a lot of money to get it done. If you want to say Peters' drafting has been in question, ok that's fine too. I personally am not closing the book on it, but that's a different conversation. But I see very little that he's done 'wrong' in Free Agency because he's got a set price he's willing to pay for a player and he's sticking to it. He's not making panic moves, he's not re-setting markets for guys walking the street, and he's also not holding on to free agents simply because they're 'his guy.' He's not turning us into 49ers East, he's not pandering to fans, he's not a puppet to the owner... or at least we have no reason to believe it at this point.

At this point, the worst thing he could do is give out a massive amount of large, multi-year contracts to aging players that your then financially strapped to if they dont work out. Look at the guys who walked in free agency which ones you're upset that we aren't retaining... So what's the alternative? Would it have been giving all those guys 3 year deals so you dont have as many holes the next off season?

We got Settle already but why haven't they signed Ioannidis or Chase Roullier?

I wonder if he has a inside scoop on LB?? It also seems awfully quiet on the Hendrickson front

LB is mysterious to me, no name drops at all compared to some other spots.

My guy would be Chenal or Ellis. But not sure how high they are shooting at that spot.

That's my biggest fear is Love going before our pick at 7......I know this is a professional organization but winning those two meaningless games certainly didn't help
If he does we will end up with one of the defensive studs. Or we will possibly trade down. With only 6 picks I wouldnt be surprised in a trade down anyways.

Yes, the only thing that makes it even remotely worth it is that we made Philly have to play SF and get bounced in the first round. The jackasses.
