The 2026 Free Agency Thread

So, why have confidence in a GM and front office that acts in this manner? Allegretti was an easy discard in KC, the team never made a move to try and retain him. Somehow he comes here and underperforms for 2 years but then plays 2 games at center in garbage time at the end of the season when other teams like the Eagles are resting starters and he is the guy?

That's a joke on the face of it.

I have no confidence, lol... I couldn't agree more.

Don’t you need to look at the guarantees? More like $20M/year. Unless I’m wrong.
Yes, but 60M in guarantees is still crazy high for a center and a 3 year deal.

It's where the market is going as caps increase but he's getting 9m more AAV, and 10M more in guarantees than next closest guy but with a full year less (Creed Humprehy 4 years 50M guaranteed vs 3 years 60M guaranteed).

Forget what we think, the most important person/people watching today and over the next few days is JAYDEN DANIELS and his MOM.

Adam Peters better get his shit together. Ownership too if there are any handcuffs on AP.

This fanbase is, rightfully, in 'Show me' mode.

The mindset isn't 'keep the faith and be patient, these guys know what they are doing'.

They haven't earned that mindset yet.

RBs are going but White still out there and he's probably my preferred target. Gainwell gone tho.

Okonkwko still out there so that's fine.

Jennings and Doubs (and Shaheed) still out there.

Oweh still out there, as is Hendrickson in a pinch and guys like Paye and Bosa.

ANd Devin Lloyd still there.

So all my preferred targets are still alive.

Brother you are doing this all wrong. You’re supposed to shit your pants and have an aneurysm while repeating the same no shit Sherlock observations about having backup plans when targets get snatched ad naseum…all within the first two hours of free agency.

Last year all I heard was that we were a favorite destination.....So what's changed??
It was easier to think that we were a favorite destination when we were a game from the Super Bowl. A season later, we are not seemingly a game from the Super Bowl. Nothing else has improved, and the head coach is on the hotseat, and both coordinators have been replaced. Last year would have been the year to capitalize on on-field success. The honeymoon is over.

Part of the reason we have so many holes is that Peters draft picks in 2024 have largely failed to lock down regular contributing roles on the club in addition to all of the geezer contracts that were one year bandaids.

Les Snead and John Schneider are eating Adam Peters lunch.

Well I guess we should just give up and start the 2027 Draft and Free Agency threads?

It’s way too early to panic.

But this isn’t a great start.

But maybe we hit a couple of Santana Moss Hail Mary passes. Far from over.

Also… Tunsil.

I don't believe they released Biadasz with the plan to sign Linderbaumj anyway. I think they said 'we'll pencil in Allegretti there and if we get the chance to upgrade, we can do that'. I hate the release because I don't believe they really had a solid plan beyond letting Biadasz walk.

Seems like the plan according to what Keim-Sheehan heard.

According to a combination of what they heard. It wasn't driven by:

A. We love Biadaz the player but heck he is just too expensive
B. We will upgrade over Biadaz with a better player

But...

A. They thought Allegretti was as good and maybe even a little better in Blough's scheme
B. They will give Allegretti competition

Chasing Linderbaum counters that some but it sounds like that was a function of him being an elite player so why not?

Doesn't mean the FO is right about this. But that's the impression I get listening to Keim and Sheehan.

Are we at the stage of just signing players with previous association to Peters, Quinn and Jayden.

I keep going back to what AP said at the first post-season presser. He said the biggest thing they can do to protect Jayden Daniels is to surround him with better talent and playmakers. So far, that has equalled letting our starting center walk for no compensation, and re-signing Tunsil. I'd call it a wash so far.

But we didn't spend any money when we were in that advantageous position in 2025 either.

So, this goes beyond who is available at what position and the exact circumstances.

This seems to be an organization that is VERY skittish about making ANY commitments on contracts beyond 1-2 years.

The irony of that is that it may make Jayden Daniels in the end want to leave Washington and go somewhere else to play.

We may be able to prevent him from doing so using the option and tags after that but we know that often doesn't bring out the best in players in the NFL.

The best plan IMO is to go ahead and spend the money and with the upcoming contracts for the NFL for streaming which likely to be more lucrative the cap will only continue to go up and with a good team here Daniels will resign and we can work his deal as the Chiefs did for Mahomes the first time.

Bucs might have the best RB duo in the league next year.

It’s an under-talked about thing that Irving was actually horrendous this year. Near the bottom of the league in most efficiency metrics and advanced analytics. Not sure if their OL got worse but Irving certainly did

They let Sean Tucker go who is an interesting JAG replacement level type guy. So clearly felt they needed some changes in that RB room

We gonna have 4/5 of a killer oline and JD gonna get pressure up the middle all year.
